Chapter 17 Regional Wars
.Chapter 17 Regional War
On the night of May 4th, the focus is on the battlefield in the South China Sea.
During the daytime battle, the "Yangtze River" aircraft carrier battle group dispatched three batches of fighter jets, plus combat aircraft carrying out fleet air defense missions, with a total dispatch of 84 orders, and the "Yellow River" aircraft carrier battle group also dispatched three batches of fighter jets, with a total dispatch of 78 orders.
Judging from the strength of the attack, it is not very fierce.
The first two rounds of strikes were mainly concentrated on the military base of the Vietnamese Navy. In the third round of strikes, fighter jets dispatched by the Yangtze River bombed the outer port of Ho Chi Minh City, namely Vung Tau Port, and fighter jets dispatched by the Yellow River bombed the Phan Thiet Port, focusing on the port infrastructure.
According to Zhang Yuting's arrangement, a bombing will be carried out at night, focusing on the remaining ships of the Vietnamese Navy.
However, when arranging the crackdown, Zhang Yuting did not relax his vigilance.
At that time, there were four air defense fighters and one carrier-based early warning aircraft over the two aircraft carrier combat groups. There was also a HNA KJ-24 large early warning aircraft and eight shore-based aviation j-20c fighters on the south side of the Xisha Islands. There were eight J-20cs in the naval air station on Hainan Island that could take off at any time.
It seems that the fleet's air defense power is not strong.
In fact, this is enough to ensure the fleet's air defense safety.
Although the Vietnam Air Force is not small in size, with a total of more than 400 fighter jets, only 48 F-35a that can pose a threat to the fleet are only forty-eight F-35a that were obtained from the United States not long ago. Among the remaining fighters, the su-27sk and su-30mk2 are barely available, while the mig-21, mig-23, mig-27, mig-29, su-22, su-24, and su-25 are all behind. Many fighter jets have even been unable to take off for combat due to improper maintenance. More importantly, the Vietnamese Navy has severely lacked ammunition for attack warships.
Of course, the most important thing is that the Vietnam Air Force does not have early warning aircraft
Relying entirely on the ground command center, even if the activities of the Chinese fleet can be grasped, the Vietnamese Air Force will organize up to twenty fighter jets to launch assaults. Because of the lack of threatening anti-ship missiles, the Vietnamese Air Force's fighter jets have to be mounted on bombs to carry out bombing missions.
To cope with such small-scale air counterattacks, eight air defense fighters in the fleet are enough.
What we should really be wary of is not the fighter jets of the Vietnamese Air Force, but the small missile boats and submarines of the Vietnamese Navy. Therefore, when arranging the fleet's defensive forces, Zhang Yuting asked the two aircraft carrier battle groups to send two destroyers forward to intercept high-speed missile boats that may appear at any time. In the rear, each aircraft carrier battle group has four anti-submarine frigates and is supported by long-range anti-submarine patrol aircraft. On the sea, each of the two aircraft carrier battle groups has an attack nuclear submarine for external cover, and two attack nuclear submarines are coming.
However, Zhang Yuting's judgment is not accurate.
Shortly after nightfall, the zy-1 dispatched by the Yangtze River was the first to discover four missile boats that appeared at the mouth of the Mekong River, and then it was determined to be Russia's "Poison Spider-class". Five minutes later, the early warning aircraft discovered four "Poison Spider-class" missile boats that came out of Mizuse Iwa Bay.
Obviously, during the daytime bombing, these missile boats were hidden in the inland river and were not discovered.
The eight missile boats are a big threat, so they must not be allowed to get close.
The interception operation was launched immediately, and the main force was not the carrier-based fighter jets, but the helicopters deployed on the escort warships.
Using fighter jets to deal with missile boats is simply useless.
Anti-submarine helicopters can carry small anti-ship missiles and use rockets, making them more suitable for speedboats with faster speeds at low altitudes.
Within five minutes, the two destroyers departed in front each dispatched two helicopters.
But, this is not the point.
According to the post-event analysis, the Vietnamese Navy dispatched missile speedboats, one to attack the aircraft carrier battle group, and the other to determine the target position.
Shortly after the helicopter was launched, it was discovered by the radar on the missile speedboat.
At around 7:30, zy-1 discovered Vietnamese fighter jets appearing over the Mekong Delta. The leader was still the Su-27sk, which ended in the daytime defeat, followed by several Su-30mk2s and Su-24. The fleet immediately dispatched four J-25s according to the air defense operation deployment.
Fifteen minutes later, the zy-1, dispatched by the Yellow River, discovered the f-35a fleet flying from the northwest.
There are a large number, at least more than ten, and they are all super low-altitude penetration. However, the target of the aircraft group is not the aircraft carrier battle group, but two destroyers that are about 150 kilometers west of the fleet, and none of these fighters use external pylons.
That is to say, the f-35a does not carry anti-ship missiles.
After mobilizing four air defense fighter jets, the Yellow River also urgently dispatched four J-25s to intercept the F-35a fleet and notified the destroyers that departed.
The battle started in three directions, and the fleet commander also understood the Vietnamese Air Force's intention to counterattack.
The main offensive mission must be the F-35a aircraft group. Whether it is the Vietnamese Air Force that made a mistake in the target or decided to focus on combat ships operating outside the fleet's air defense network, the two destroyers in the "Yellow River" aircraft carrier battle group were under huge threats, and air defense interception was urgent.
In another direction, the combat operations of the "Yangtze River" aircraft carrier battle group were going very smoothly.
The Vietnamese Air Force's assault aircraft group had no chance to get close to the target. Shortly after entering the South China Sea, it was hit by the j-25 head-on. After the four escorted su-27sks were shot down by the j-25 from the sight range, the remaining fighter jets rushed to drop bombs and turned to escape at the fastest speed. As a result, two su-30mk2 and four su-24 were still shot down by the medium-range air-to-air missiles launched by the j-25 over the Mekong River.
On the sea, eight "poisonous spider" missile boats were attacked by helicopters after leaving Vietnam's territorial waters.
Within five minutes, six missile boats were hit by anti-ship missiles, and two missile boats turned to escape. One of them was destroyed by a helicopter with a rocket in Mizuse Iwa Bay. Only the one who escaped south successfully entered the Mekong River and relied on the mangroves at the mouth of the river to avoid the pursuit helicopter.
The main battle took place in the north, that is, the battle group of the "Yellow River" aircraft carrier.
Four J-25s intercepted the F-35a fleet, but the efficiency was not very high. After using all the pl-12e, only six F-35a were shot down, and six F-35a were still approaching the destroyers that were coming forward. As J-25 approached, two F-35a threw away their ammunition and turned to fight with J-25.
At 7:50, four F-35a attacked the "Taiyuan" destroyer.
It is not an anti-ship missile, but a bomb, and it is a non-guided bomb.
Before the bomb was dropped, two F-35a were shot down by the air defense missiles launched by the Taiyuan. One dropped the bomb while avoiding the air defense missiles. Only one F-35a relied on the electronic jamming system to avoid the air defense missiles and dropped the bombs over the Taiyuan.
It must be admitted that Vietnamese pilots are very brave.
After dropping the bomb, the f-35a was shot down by another destroyer, the air defense missile launched by the "Zhengzhou", twenty kilometers away. The f-35a that had dropped the bomb during evasion was also shot down by a j-25 aviation artillery that rushed to the scene while climbing.
In the end, all four f-35a were done.
To be precise, none of the twelve F-35a involved in this attack escaped.
After paying such a huge price, the Vietnam Air Force did not reap any results.
The two 1,000-kilogram bombs dropped by the f-35a were enough to sink the Taiyuan, but these two bombs had no chance to hit the warship. The only loss suffered by the Taiyuan was that when evading, the lifeboat on the port side fell off and hit the 20-mm machine gun next to it.
In naval battles, the courageous fighting spirit alone is not enough to win.
It is obviously a whimsical thing to use free fall bombs to attack high-speed warships. Besides, Vietnamese pilots are not fully familiar with the F-35a. The bomb altitude is more than one thousand meters, and the warship has enough time to evade, and can even use the rapid-fire guns that intercept missiles to intercept missiles. However, in this battle, the captain of the "Taiyuan" did not order the use of rapid-fire guns.
The reason is very simple, there are several j-25s nearby.
After the last interception system is activated, it will not divide the enemy and us, and will attack all air targets approaching the battleship by itself, which may accidentally hurt friendly forces.
This battle is basically in danger.
This is not the case for the Vietnam Air Force and Navy.
An unsuccessful counterattack lost seven missile boats and twenty-two fighter jets, including the F-35a, which is equivalent to a quarter of the total.
However, the Vietnamese authorities do not seem to think this is a completely failed counterattack.
Before 11 o'clock, the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense claimed that in the just-concluded battle, a large missile destroyer of the Chinese Navy severely damaged and achieved a brilliant victory since the war began.
The Chinese Ministry of Defense did not respond immediately because it made no sense to fight a quarrel with the ruffian.
On the morning of May 5, the Chinese Ministry of Defense released a four-day night battle report, claiming that it would sink seven missile boats of the Vietnamese Navy and shoot down twenty-two fighter jets in naval and air combat, and the fleet was not damaged.
Soon, some news media confirmed the war report of China's Ministry of National Defense.
In the early morning of the fifth, a commercial remote sensing mapping satellite of the European Space Corporation took photos of the Chinese fleet, confirming that the warships in the two aircraft carrier battle groups did not decrease and no warships were damaged.
However, this morning, the most popular thing was not the four-day night battle.
At around 10 o'clock in Beijing time, that is, around 9 o'clock in Vientiane time, Laos took the lead in announcing that Vietnam's unilateral detention of Laos ships and crew had constituted elements of war. Laos declared war on Vietnam in this way and invited China to send troops to assist Laos in the war in accordance with the Sino-Laos Alliance Treaty.
Half an hour later, the Cambodian Prime Minister personally declared war on Vietnam and invited China to send troops to assist in the war.
Now, it is not only China that targets Vietnam, but all three countries point their guns at Vietnam.
The war between the two countries has thus risen to regional wars.
In the afternoon of the same day, another thing worthy of attention happened. Myanmar, which has no direct and strong relationship with Vietnam, officially announced the declaration of war on Vietnam and sent special envoys to Beijing, hoping that China could provide support and encouragement to Myanmar on the issue of war.
In fact, Myanmar is not an ally of China, at least it has not signed an alliance treaty.
Obviously, Myanmar wants to take this opportunity to form an alliance with China and obtain China's military and economic assistance.
Now, among the countries involved, only Thailand has not made any statement...
