Chapter 32 Post-editing

Since the world's first radio broadcast was broadcast in Massachusetts on December 24, 1906, wireless radio has developed rapidly in the United States with an astonishing speed. On November 2, 1920, the Pittsburgh KDKA radio station in the United States officially started broadcasting, becoming the first radio station in the United States. By 1922, the United States had grown to 500 radio stations, and in 1925, there were already 6 large radio stations in Los Angeles, covering the entire city of Los Angeles and radiating to surrounding cities.

Commercial radio stations emerged like mushrooms after a rain, forming a loyal and huge audience, from high-ranking officials to peddlers and pawns, with a wide audience that was much stronger than newspapers.

Among the six radio stations in Los Angeles, the two largest are Los Angeles One and Three. The two radio stations were founded almost at the same time and had a government and consortium background, so they developed rapidly in just a few years. Compared with the other three TV stations, the second station is a little smaller. In order to avoid the pressure of one and three, they took the route of segmentation, which is to start programs for specific groups. For example, the second station is a bit like the transportation station in later generations. Their main service targets are taxi drivers and tram passengers everywhere in Los Angeles. The other three TV stations also have specialties, and their business is not overwhelming, and they live in harmony.

In the afternoon, I sent all six radio stations over. Almost every boss was very interested in my idea of making movie advertisements on their radio stations. In addition, I said that once the movie was successful, more film companies would ask them to advertise. These bosses were overjoyed and were willing to give me discounts. They agreed to bombard the radio station 70 times a day for advertising "Lust Caution" for two weeks. In addition, the second station also promised me to send flyers for me in taxis and trams for free. My radio guide plan was a huge success.

When I came out of the last radio station, I only had 5,000 dollars in my pocket. From the beginning of filming to now, there is only a little more than 80,000 yuan left.

Back at the film company, I asked Berg to invite several professionals who specialize in designing movie posters to design posters for "Lust and Caution". After spending so much money on promotion, whether the designed posters can catch the audience's attention is a key.

It was created by me personally, and a few guys took the job. The poster was finally settled until the next morning. The main body was a woman's naked back, and her elastic hips could be seen. James played the role of a vicissitudes of life. His right hand was tightly clasped on Julie's naked buttocks, and his left hand was whipped. He was crying and sadness was surging. Below the poster is a battlefield of artillery fire. After the blurring, it looked magnificent. The title of the movie "Lust and Caution" was printed in bright red, like a burning flame that was extremely dazzling in the dim and fusion tones. In the upper right corner of the movie, there are two lines of slogans: "Love me, beat me!, an immortal entanglement between lust and truth!" At the bottom right of the movie, there is a line of large characters "Andre; Corleon's work".

My design philosophy not only made the fat man next to me praise Julie, but even the professional poster designers were impressed. A man in his 50s patted his chest and told me that this poster is definitely top-notch among all Hollywood movie posters. Once it is released, the threshold of the cinema will probably be flattened by the crowded audience.

After designing the poster, I asked the fat man to go to the printing factory the next day to discuss related matters. As a result, the boss of the printing factory agreed to print 100,000 copies for us at a price of US$2,000, and ensured that we could work overtime to complete the task within three days.

After finishing these things, I lay down and slept for a whole day. At night, Gith called me up and said that Gans was back.

"Boss, they washed the film!" Gans was obviously sleepless, his eyes were black, and Jack took people to carry the film down from the car.

"So fast?!" I can only describe the efficiency of the studio by incredible.

Gans took a sip of water and said, "I told their boss that this batch of films would be in a hurry to come out. The boss temporarily put down other jobs and rinsed ours first with all their energy. They are all here, and the rest depends on yours."

"Good done!" I patted Gans on the shoulder and asked someone to move the film into my office, where the editing station had been arranged in advance.

"Gis, Jack, from now on, no one is allowed to enter my office without my orders. Fatty, Gans, from today on, all the big and small things in the company depend on you." I shouted with excitement on my face.

"Boss, what are you doing?" the fat man said in confusion.

"What am I doing? Of course it's editing!" I gave the fat man a blank look, walked into the office, and closed the iron door heavily.

Ten boxes of just-rinsed films are neatly arranged next to the editing station. You can still smell the potion after being disassembled. Maybe when others smell it, it smells pungent and unpleasant, but for me, it tastes more refreshing than the most advanced Paris perfume!

Taking off my shirt and rolling up my cuffs, I took out the film of the first scene from the box and started editing. Since the film has board markings, it is easy to distinguish the order of these shots. I just need to combine these shots according to the scenes and plots in the storyboard script.

When I was in the film school, I worked as an assistant editor for a long time, so I was very comfortable doing this job. By midnight, I almost cut the first scene.

In the next week, I didn't leave the small office. There was a toilet in the urination. If I was hungry, Gans ordered takeout for me. All my energy was to deal with the film. Those clips that gradually moved with the machine rotated at a constant speed on the operating table were displayed in front of me. These lights and shadows, one familiar person after another, reminded me of the filming life that was exhausted day and night. Many times, looking at the simple screen opposite the editing table, my nose was sore and I couldn't help but shed tears. The tears were not sadness, but great joy and satisfaction.

At noon on the eighth day, after I glued the film of the last lens on it, I staggered to the door and opened the heavy iron door. The blazing sunlight made me who had been working in the dark room for a long time almost blind. A figure swayed in front of my eyes. I couldn't see their faces clearly, but I could feel their nervousness.

"Boss!" Fatty and Gans helped me, left and right. Julie brought a chair from beside me and asked me to sit down, and James brought a glass of water.

"Boss, how are you cutting?" Gans glanced nervously into the office. The place outside the editing station was in a mess, almost like a garbage dump.

"Boss." James, Julie, even Jack, and Guis all looked at me in unison.

I took a sip of water, adjusted my eyes to the light outside, and then slowly raised my head.

I saw that not only them, but also the 40 members of DreamWorks stood neatly in the corridor and looked at me quietly. They seemed to have been notified in advance, and everyone's eyes were shining with anticipation.
