Chapter 3 Travel
Wei Fufeng set off quietly. He did not ask his relatives to go, so he would not be able to go. Although his existence was not important, his elders would not condone his misbehavior.
After leaving a letter stating his whereabouts, Wei Fufeng drove a dilapidated carriage and left Shangluo County, carrying Lao Feng and Biyi Nu.
The woman in green clothes has disheveled hair, wears shabby blue clothes and pants, and coughs from time to time.
When passing through the city gate, the officers and soldiers guarding the gate only took a brief look before letting them pass.
The woman's cough is very lethal. Nowadays, what people in Shangluo County are most afraid of is getting sick, followed by worrying about eating.
After leaving the city, Old Feng climbed out of the car hood and sat on the right side of the car.
Wei Fufeng waved his whip lightly and drove the horse, which was lame on one hind leg, northward along Wuguan Road to Chang'an.
In troubled times, horses are the most rare commodity.
"Sir, if you go south along Wuguan Road, you can take a boat to Shangjin County and go west to Jinzhou (Ankang) through the Han River. From Jinzhou to the west, you can reach Yangzhou and Hanzhong." Old Feng said.
"I know what you said. Shangluo County is located at the throat of the north and south. It can lead to Hanzhong from the south. The problem is that I don't have money to hire a boat, so I can only take the long way overland." Wei Fufeng responded with a smile.
Old Feng nodded, and Wei Fufeng added: "In addition, the section from Jinzhou to Hanzhong is not easy to travel, and the dangers on the way are difficult to know. However, the land route to Hanzhong is an official road, and there should be fewer bandits."
Old Feng nodded. The Qinling Mountains from west to east formed a natural dividing line between north and south.
North of the Qinling Mountains is the 800-mile Weihe River Plain, the core area ruled by the Tang Dynasty.
To the south of the Qinling Mountains are the Hanzhong Basin and Ankang Basin formed between the Qinling Mountains and the Daba Mountains.
Xingyuan Prefecture and Yangzhou were established in the Hanzhong Basin, Jinzhou was built in the Ankang Basin, and Shangzhou was located in the northeast of Jinzhou, where Wei Fufeng's homeland was located.
The Han River, which is thousands of miles long, flows through Xingyuan Prefecture, Yangzhou, Jinzhou and Jingxiang areas, and finally flows into the Yangtze River.
Since the Qinling Mountains block the north and south, many roads connecting the Qinling Mountains have been formed since ancient times.
Among them, the Wuguan Road in Shangzhou is the main official road connecting the north and the south. In the Tang Dynasty south of the Qinling Mountains and even south of the Dajiang River, land routes basically rely on Wuguan Road for entry and exit.
With Chang'an as the center, the roads that can cross the Qinling Mountains and enter Hanzhong are Chencang Road, Baoxie Road, Tangluo Road, Ziwu Road, Kugu Road and Wuguan Road from west to east.
Among them, Wuguan Road mainly leads to the Nanyang Basin, Jingxiang area, and the area south of the river.
During the Qin and Han Dynasties, Liu Bang was the first to invade Guanzhong through Wuguandao.
Kugu Road is a direct road from Chang'an to Jinzhou. The mountain road is difficult to travel. Cars and horses are not allowed on it.
Ziwu Road leads directly from Chang'an to Yangzhou, then to Xingyuanfu in the west, and to Jinzhou in the east.
Liu Bang was forced by Xiang Yu to become the King of Hanzhong, and he arrived in Hanzhong from Ziwu Road to establish his foundation.
After Liu Bang made some efforts to gain momentum, he used the strategy of building a plank road in the open to conceal Chencang. While building a plank road on the Ziwu Road to confuse the enemy, his army used the Chencang Road to invade the pass and occupy the Weihe River Plain.

Guanzhong established the great Han Dynasty.
It is said that traveling is difficult. Wei Fufeng drove his carriage and walked on the bumpy road, which would inevitably lead to hardship for a long time.
Decades ago, Wuguan Road underwent a large-scale renovation, but after years of war, Wuguan Road became bumpy and difficult to navigate.
Wuguandao was a tribute lifeline for the Tang Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty relied on the support from the Jianghuai and Southeast regions.
Since the Anshi Rebellion, the rule of the Tang Dynasty has flourished and declined, and rebellions have continued. Every large-scale war will block the waterway transportation of the Grand Canal in the Central Plains.
As a result, Wuguandao became an indispensable lifeline of Gongfu.
According to the imperial court's order, local tribute had to be transported via the Han River. The tribute passed through the river and was transferred into the Han River, a tributary, for transportation to Shangjin County, and then transferred to land for transportation along the Wuguan Road to Chang'an.
The lower reaches of the Han River, including Jinzhou, were called Shangyong in ancient times.
The Shangyong area is a place where wars are frequent. During the Warring States Period, Qin and Chu fought for hegemony, and Wuguan was the military chokepoint between the two countries.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Guan Yu defeated the Shangyong region, which resulted in the great weakness of the Shu Kingdom.
Along the way, Wei Fufeng remained vigilant. There were constant refugees on the road, and occasionally he encountered officers and soldiers passing by for questioning.
Wei Fufeng informed his family, and the officers and soldiers left after hearing this. However, many refugees were brutally looted and beaten by the officers and soldiers.
Wei Fufeng cannot protect himself, so he will certainly not be troublesome.
He knew in his heart that the officers and soldiers were able to let him go because Han Jian, the Chinese businessman's military envoy, did not want to go into confrontation with the Chang'an clan, so he restrained the soldiers from acting rashly.
After walking for three days, the journey was smooth. We walked through the Zhongnan Mountains in the Qinling Mountains, passed Lantian Pass, and entered Lantian County under the rule of Jingzhao Prefecture.
In order to save his savings, Wei Fufeng did not go to the county town to rest and still slept outside.
At dawn, the three of them had eaten dry food and set off westward, heading straight to the Ziwu Road just south of Chang'an City. The carriage was slow and they slept in the open air all the way, and soon arrived at Ziwu Town.
Wei Fufeng asked the local people to ask Xiaoqian for some information, and found out that Ziwu Road was under military control of the imperial court, and it required a lot of tolls to pass it.
However, Ziwu Road is not what it used to be. It was renovated by Shannan West Road Jiedushi a few years ago to allow narrow vehicles to pass.
The road to Chengdu in Xichuan was long, and Wei Fufeng could barely save enough to eat, and could not walk on Ziwu Road, so the three of them continued westward to Mei County, where the entrance to Baoxie Road was located.
On the way to the west, Lao Feng occasionally recounted geography and anecdotes about events, and walked into the Fengxiang Mansion under a dusty journey.
Fengxiang Mansion is located to the west of Jingzhao Mansion. It was an important town for the Tang Dynasty to defend against Tibet. Fengxiang Jiedushi was appointed to guard it.
Despite the hard work, Wei Fufeng suddenly felt nostalgic and wanted to visit Fufeng County, his birthplace.
Old Feng did not object. The lady in green clothes in the car had always been taciturn. When Wei Fufeng asked, the lady in green clothes nodded silently.
Therefore, Wei Fufeng went to Fufeng County with great interest.
Fufeng County is located on the bank of the Weishui River. Wei Fufeng had vague memories of the scenery in Fufeng County. The one that impressed him most was a temple called Famen Temple.

When he was a child, Wei Fufeng was often taken to Famen Temple to worship Buddha. The piety and solemnity of his relatives imprinted a mark on his mind that he did not dare to make mistakes, so he has a deep memory.
Famen Temple is two hundred miles away from Chang'an. The Buddhist temple was built in the 11th year of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Famen Temple built a pagoda to house the Buddha's bone relics.
The royal family of the Tang Dynasty valued Buddhism and gave Famen Temple great respect, making it a royal temple.
In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozong's reign in the Tang Dynasty, he welcomed the Buddha's bones to Luoyang, the eastern capital, and kept them for three years. In the second year of Longshuo, he sent them back to Famen Temple. He also ordered monks Hui Gong, Yi Fang and others to rebuild the Famen Temple pagoda.
Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty donated 5,000 strings of money and 5,000 bolts of silk to the temple at one time, and royal ministers also donated money and materials one after another.
Later emperors of the Tang Dynasty, Wu Zetian, Zhongzong, Suzong, Dezong, Xianzong, Yizong, and Xizong also welcomed and offered Buddha finger relics.
Each welcome and farewell was carried out with great fanfare, creating a sensation in both the government and the public. The emperor paid homage and worshiped the Buddha to the extreme.
When Wei Fufeng and his party arrived at Famen Temple, his interest and enthusiasm were completely gone. First, he was tired, and second, he saw poverty and depression everywhere.
Moreover, he was interrogated by officers and soldiers more than a dozen times. Facing those ferocious soldiers in the feudal town, Wei Fufeng was frightened and regretted that he should have come.
Losing interest, Wei Fufeng looked at the Famen Temple tower in the distance and remained silent.
The troubled times made his travels no fun. If he hadn't been born in Chang'an, Webster would have had his skin peeled off even if he didn't die along the way.
"Why don't you leave, Master?" Lao Feng asked.
"I'm so poor that I can't get any incense from worshiping Buddha." Wei Fufeng responded mockingly.
"Buddhism is compassionate, all living beings are equal, and piety is the highest priority. Since you are here, it is better to pay homage." Old Feng advised.
Wei Fufeng shook his head and said: "Buddhist temples are the gods of rich people, and worshiping them by poor people is in vain. Maybe one day, I will come again."
After hearing this, Lao Feng said nothing and looked at the towering pagoda in silence.
After a while, Wei Fufeng smiled and said: "Old Feng, do you believe in Buddhism?"
"I can't tell whether I believe it or not, but he is a martial artist, but he also cherishes the memory of the prosperous Tang Dynasty." Old Feng whispered calmly.
Wei Fufeng was slightly startled and nodded. Old Feng added: "Crippled people who believe in Buddhism may be able to have a good afterlife. Please wait, Master."
Wei Fufeng watched Old Feng walk away on crutches, but he hesitated and did not move.
The woman in green clothes said from the car: "You should go too and pray for peace."
"It is better to believe in Buddhism and seek peace than to believe in yourself and your sister's protection." Wei Fufeng said gently and gently.
"Don't talk nonsense. I am the Dao of Kun, so I can't enter the Buddhist temple. You have traveled a long way and you shouldn't stop moving forward." The woman in green clothes whispered.
"When I become rich and powerful in the future, I should worship Buddha. If I go to pray now, Buddha will be indifferent." Wei Fufeng said casually.
"False, for God's sake, you must know what to eat." The woman in green reproached her with a soft tone.
Wei Fufeng smiled, feeling warm inside.
This road was long and bumpy, full of dust, and encountered constant military disasters and crises. The woman in green clothes always kept her promise and never gave up, which made him deeply grateful.
