Foreword: some gibberish about the book, irrelevant
\Please come to "Net"
The protagonist of this book is a monk.
The name monk is very interesting. According to principles, Buddhism was passed down from India, and the word Buddha is also a transliteration of Sanskrit. Then the name monk should also be derived from Sanskrit, that is, Indian dialect, but the problem is here. The translation of this word is very problematic, and it cannot be regarded as a transliteration or a free translation.
If it is a transliteration, ordinary monks should be called Upozhaga in India. Monks with status, such as monks who specialize in ordaining new monks, and monks who explain Buddhism to new monks, are called Upotah. No matter which name it is, if transliterated in Chinese, it has nothing to do with the monk's pronunciation.
If it is a free translation, then we should translate it into an apprentice. And Ubotuoya should translate it into a teacher. The great writer Han Yu once said that a teacher is a teacher, so he preaches, teaches and solves doubts. And these are the things that Ubotuoya do, to promote Buddhism, teaches Buddhism, and inspires them to enlightenment.
Since Sanskrit means this, why did monks have such a completely unmatched name in China?
There are two types of religious sayings in this world. The first is that Buddhism was first introduced to the Hotan area in Xinjiang. Yes, it is where the jade was produced. During the Han Dynasty, this was the Western Regions, called the Kingdom of Khotan. These uncultured barbarians of Khotan translated Upozhaga into Heshe, while the Upodhaya were translated into Hesha.
And later, because there were many people who wrote typos, the one who spread rumors became monks.
Another way of saying by monks starts with the so-called forum literature. It is said that since the rise of online forums, some so-called abbreviated words, such as I agree with the above point of view, have been briefly reduced to the same as above, or more directly, just one word, top! The benefits of this kind of vocabulary are that they are simple, direct, get points, and leave!
Of course, we won’t say much about the words produced by forum literature, such as sofas, benches, dewdrops wet sand walls, and dusk in the darkness and quietness.
Why is the origin of the title of monk related to forum literature? Because when the Buddhists first wrote reports, they thought that there were too many strokes of Upozhaga, Upotuoya and others, and they were very annoying to write. Not to mention that due to the development of productivity, the books were all made of bamboo slips, and the characters were not written, but were carved one by one with a knife.
So at that time they were just like simplifying things like the above in the forum literature. If words like Upozhaga were written before, then another word will be replaced by the following. This word is called He Shang, which means it is the same as the title above. Over time, the illiterates who saw this word later thought that He Shang was synonymous with Buddhists.
During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, among these illiterate people who believed that the gods were collectively called Buddhists, a very awesome guy appeared. The guy named Shi Le was very respectful to a monk Fo Tucheng at that time. He had already respected Shi Le's opinion that the ordinary gods could no longer reflect his feelings for Fo Tucheng.
So Shi Le gave Fotucheng a title and respectfully called Fotucheng the Dagu Shang. Then he found that the Dagu Shang was too ugly, so he changed the character Shang to Shang, and became a great monk. Since Fotucheng was a great monk, no other "天" were naturally young monks. Therefore, the term monk made a grand debut in history.
From the above, we can see that no matter how the word monk comes from, it is inseparable from typos. Otherwise, it is terrible to be uneducated!
Buddhism was introduced into our country in this uncultured situation, and soon Buddhism was infected by our own culture. During the Jin Dynasty, people blocked the teachings of Lao Tzu and Zhuangzi in the Buddhist dynasty. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, people not only blocked Lao Tzu and Zhuangzi, but also blocked Confucius and Mencius in the interior.
Of course, at this time, no matter whether it was Laozi, Zhuangzi, Confucius and Mencius, it could still be said that it was the communication between their own people in the philosophical circle. By the end of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, people were no longer limited to the Buddhist thoughts of dynasty, but were filled with customs, clothing, housing and transportation, astronomy and geography, and whatever they grasped.
Therefore, by the end of the Sui Dynasty, Buddhism had become a huge religious system under the "dirty-breaking" of many predecessors, including many sects, and even the opinions between these sects were completely different. I believe that even Sakyamuni could not recognize the resurrection of the rebirth of Sakyamuni.
Among these sects, the Tiantai Sect founded by Monk Zhiyan, the Sandang Sect founded by Monk Jizang, the Huayan Sect founded by Monk Fashun, the Shelun Sect founded by Monk Zhenti, and the Vitan Sect summarized and developed by Monk Daoan. They originated from the Chengshi Sect of Kumarajiva, and even the Nirvana Sect of Bodhi Ruzhi and Lenamoti, which Xie Lingyun joined.
The above Buddhist sects existed before the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty.
After the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, the Buddhist sect had to be added to the names of the Dharma Xiang Sect founded by the famous Tang monk Xuanzang, the Tantric Buddhism taught after Padmasambhava entered, and the precepts sect that aimed at asceticism and suffering behavior.
The above Buddhist sects include the Bailian Sect, which originated from the Jin Dynasty and has always been related to various revolutionary events such as peasant uprisings (later, after everyone called the name of Bailian Sect, this sect was renamed Pure Land Sect.) and the Zen sect, which our protagonist joined, was founded by the Zen sect, Bodhidharma, a personal disciple of the Sakyamuni lineage.
These are the thirteen Buddhist sects that are famous in history.
Some of these Buddhist sects with great statements were circulated since the Jin Dynasty, such as the White Lotus Sect and the Nirvana Sect. Some were established only during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, such as the Vidharma Sect and the Chengshi Sect. Some were later and were established until the middle of the Tang Dynasty, such as the Precepts and Tantrics.
More of them were established during the Sui Dynasty and the Zhenguan period of Wude in the Tang Dynasty. Just like the Tiantai Sect, the Three Theory Sects, the Faxiang Sect, the Huayan Sect, and even the Zen Sect of Master Bodhidharma can be counted in this era.
This is an era of bald heads gathering and eminent monks gathering. Almost all Buddhist theories are promoted, believed, and even laid down in this era.
This is the best time, this is the worst time; this is the wisdom time, this is the stupid time; this is the faith time, this is the doubt time; this is the light time, this is the dark time; this is the spring of hope, this is the winter of disappointment; there are all kinds of things before us, and nothing before us; we are going straight to heaven, and we are going straight to hell.
This is the third year of Wude.
The 36 rebellion against the Great Sui Dynasty, and the seventy-two glorious eras have passed. Emperor Gaozu of Tang Li Yuan was leading his sons to sweep the world and create his own era.
Similarly, Buddhism also began to reach a trough after passing an extremely brilliant peak.
Among the thirteen Buddhist sects, the Vitan Sect and Nirvana Sect, which were once prosperous, have begun to reach the end. The mysterious and mysterious White Lotus Sect has begun to go to the evil path. The Tiantai Sect, which is as bright as the sun, is no longer as glorious as before with the death of Monk Zhiyan.
The founder of Faxiang Sect, the most famous monk in the world, and the protagonist of the Journey to the West, Mr. Xuanzang, was still in Chengdu at this time, and was studying the classic Eight Kanthus of the Vitan Sect from the Vitan Sect's Buddhist scriptures from the Vitan Sect. At this time, there were still twelve years before he took the famous monkey king to the West to worship Buddha and seek scriptures.
In this year, after killing Erwuzai Dugu Huaien, Li Yuan turned his attention to Wang Shichong.
In this year, King Li Shimin of Qin recovered Jinyang and drove Liu Wuzhou to the Turks.
In this year, Li Jing, the Three Yuan Dynasty, broke 800 and broke 5,000, and began his journey as a generation of military gods.
In this year, Jiangzhou Governor Lu Hao died of illness, while Liang Wang Xiao Xian was busy dealing with the generals who could lead troops to fight but were very domineering. So Gai Yanju, who could not fight, but was very respectful, went to Jiujiang County, Jiangzhou and became the general manager of Jiangzhou.
In this year, Monk Falin came to Lushan to visit Daoxin, intending to invite Daoxin to go to Chang'an with him to save Li Yuan from the hands of evil demons and heretics like Wang Zhiyuan and Qi Pingding.
In this year, Master Daoxin, the fourth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, formally sent his great disciple Hongren to Qizhou to serve as the prison temple of Zhengjue Temple in Huangmei County, and began to lay the foundation for Zen Buddhism to move southward.
In this year, the protagonist, whose parents both died, encountered the biggest crisis in his second life!
