Chapter 35 Going to the Front Line

Mu Haoyang only stayed in Beijing for a few hours. He went to the General Staff to receive some documents and information, and then took the transport plane that sent him to the Zhoushan Naval Base.

Because the General Staff made arrangements in advance, when Mu Haoyang arrived, Zhou Yusheng was already waiting for him at the airport.

When friends meet, there is a lot of greetings.

Among Mu Haoyang's comrades, except for the brothers who died together in amphibious special forces such as Pang Yuelong, even if they had the best relationship with Zhou Yusheng.

In terms of personality, the two are also similar.

As a submarine captain, Zhou Yusheng has a very restrained personality and is not at all ostentatious. In the special forces, Mu Haoyang is also one of the few introverted special forces.

"How is it, are you doing well all the way?"

"I flew for more than ten hours in a row, and I wasn't much better."

"It seems that you have flight boredom." Zhou Yusheng smiled and said, "It's okay, just get used to it. In the first two years, I was also very tired of flying around."

"Yeah?"

"I'm not afraid of you making fun of it. When I was in service on a submarine, I hate flying the most. When I go back to visit my relatives, I always take the train. I always feel that I'm not at all at ease on the plane."

"All submarine soldiers are like you?"

"Of course not. That guy Safimo is different. He not only likes to fly, but also likes to skydiving."

"parachute?"

"He didn't join the special forces at the beginning, and it was a waste of talent." As he said that, Zhou Yusheng stopped.

Seeing the helicopter parked in front, Mu Haoyang immediately became overwhelmed.

"This is here to pick you up." Zhou Yusheng waved to the pilot standing next to the cabin, and said, "I originally wanted to invite you to have a midnight snack before leaving, but the situation ahead is very nervous. Maybe you will have to fight when the flight is banned, and you will have to stay here."

"You won't go?"

"There are still some things that have not been handled. If everything goes well, I will go to meet you early tomorrow morning."

"Okay, then I'll take the lead."

"When you arrive at the 'Lanzhou', someone will come to pick you up, and you will know you too."

"who?"

"Yang Yufang."

"He went up too?"

"Mr. Huang has appointed it as the commander of the HNA front line." Zhou Yusheng walked to the helicopter's hatch and said, "Okay, go up and don't waste time."

"By the way, Master Lu asked me to say hello to you on her behalf."

"Say hello to me?"

"She said, if you have time, come and see you."

"Look at me?" Zhou Yusheng was a little confused.

"Anyway, that's what she means. She wants to call and say I'm going to the flagship, so it's not convenient to contact me."

Zhou Yusheng was stunned for a moment, then understood and said with a smile: "You kid, you are simply a wooden fish head, don't you understand?"

"What do you understand?"

“What else can it be?”

Mu Haoyang didn't talk much. After getting into the cabin, he said to Zhou Yusheng: "Remember what I said, don't let me miss it. I don't want you to get into trouble."

"Come on, don't worry, are you still worried about Lao Zhou?"

Mu Haoyang smiled and shook his head, and pulled up the hatch door.

Ka-28 then rose, circled over the airport for a while, and turned to fly eastward.

About 250 kilometers away, the 170 Lanzhou air defense destroyer was sailing towards the Diaoyu Islands accompanied by more than a dozen large and small warships.

Because the first 052d destroyer is still being installed, the Lanzhou and several sister ships are the most advanced air defense destroyers of the Chinese Navy and the most comprehensive combat capability besides aircraft carriers. Even if you look at the world, the Lanzhou is also a very advanced destroyer.

Strictly speaking, it was only after the "Lanzhou" was put into service that the Chinese Navy had real regional air defense capabilities.

Although the "Modern" class destroyers are said to have regional air defense capabilities, and the latter two use vertically launched air defense missiles, the maximum range of air defense missiles is only 40 kilometers, and they can only fight with four targets at the same time, which greatly reduces their regional air defense capabilities.

Compared with the "Modern" class, the "Lanzhou" has greatly enhanced its air defense capabilities.

In addition to equipped with the "Haihong 9" long-range air defense missile with a maximum firing height of 30 kilometers and a maximum range of 200 kilometers, the biggest highlight of the "Lanzhou" is the domestic phased array radar known as the "Chinese Aegis". With three sets of fire-controlled irradiation radars, the "Lanzhou" can intercept twelve air targets at the same time, and its air defense capabilities are no less than those of the "Burke-class destroyers" and far exceed any warships equipped by the Chinese Navy before.

However, the "Lanzhou" is not perfect.

In the first few years of service, due to various factors, the Lanzhou was not fully combat-capable. For example, the reliability of phased array radar caused the ship to return to the shipyard for maintenance many times after it was put into service. It was not until 2011 that after solving the technical problems, the Lanzhou was able to form comprehensive combat power and have practical combat capabilities. The subsequent ship construction work was also carried out at the same time.

Interestingly, in the first few years, the "Lanzhou" has been serving in the South China Sea Fleet.

It is not that the East China Sea Fleet does not need air defense destroyers. From a strategic perspective, the East China Sea Fleet faces the Diaoyu Islands and the Taiwan Strait, and it needs air defense destroyers even more. The real reason is the problems existing in the "Lanzhou" that make the East China Sea Fleet more inclined to the mature 052b type.

It was not until the end of the Second Korean War that the "Lanzhou" was transferred to the East China Sea Fleet to serve as the fleet's flagship.

This arrangement has a lot to do with Huang Zhibo's personnel transfers within the army.

After being transferred to the East China Sea Fleet, the Lanzhou USS. replaced all senior officers, including the captain, and the low-level officers and non-commissioned officers were also replaced halfway.

Although these mobilizations made many people dissatisfied, the Lanzhou became one of the most technical backbone warships in the Chinese Navy. At that time, among the more than 300 officers and soldiers on the Lanzhou, 30% had college degree or above, and all sailors had professional titles.

Huang Zhibo is not a naval general, but he knows very well that the navy is a high-tech service.

In addition to ships with advanced performance, there are also officers and soldiers with outstanding capabilities that determine the combat effectiveness of the navy. To a large extent, the quality of officers and soldiers is more important.

During the three years he served as the fleet flagship, the "Lanzhou" has always been in a very ideal state.

During the joint land-sea and air landing exercise in March, the Lanzhou not only completed all exercise subjects, but also achieved extraordinary results and received collective commendations from Huang Zhibo himself.

Of course, this warship has a secret unknown to outsiders.

Before switching to the East China Sea Fleet, the "Lanzhou" returned to the Jiangnan Shipyard in the name of installing the equipment required for the fleet's flagship and made comprehensive improvements for half a year. What was installed were not only fleet command equipment, but also the first electromagnetic confrontation system of the Chinese Navy.

In fact, it was precisely for the installation of the electromagnetic confrontation system that the improvement work lasted for half a year.

Because the 052c destroyer was designed as a fleet flagship, it would be enough for only two months to install command equipment.

In the following three years, every time I returned to Hong Kong for maintenance, the Lanzhou was given special care and replaced with the latest electromagnetic countermeasure equipment.

In terms of combat capabilities in harsh electromagnetic environments, the "Lanzhou" is definitely the leader among the Chinese navy and can rank among the top even if it looks at the world.

During the March exercise, the Lanzhou resistant to the most violent electromagnetic strike.

Of course, in the East China Sea Fleet, it is not only the "Lanzhou" that has received similar modifications. In early 2019, almost all large warships made improvements. However, due to the displacement limit, the improvements of other warships were not thorough. The "Lanzhou" benefited from the standard displacement of up to 7,000 tons and the relatively abundant modification space, and its electromagnetic resistance ability far exceeds that of other destroyers and frigates.

It can be said that the urgent need for electromagnetic warfare has had an impact on the development of surface warships.

Take the Chinese Navy for example. As early as 2014, the design work of the 052d air defense destroyer was completed. However, the subsequent Second Korean War made the Chinese Navy realize that the existing large warships were restricted by the initial design, and no matter how many improvements were made, they were not as good as the newly designed warships. If the warships want to obtain complete electromagnetic confrontation capabilities, they had to provide enough internal space.

As a result, the design plan of 052d was overturned and started again at the end of 2014, and even the keel of the No. 1 ship that had been laid was removed.

Because it took several years to design a new type of warship, and the Chinese Navy had a large number of destroyers that had been in service for more than 25 years, it was necessary to replace it, so at the end of 2015, the Navy adopted the 052d improved design plan, which provided basic conditions for the installation of a complete electromagnetic confrontation system through amplification.

According to the speculation of the US Defense Magazine, the standard displacement of the redesigned 052d destroyer exceeds 9,000 tons, and the full load displacement is close to 11,000 tons, exceeding several large destroyers such as the Burke class and Atago class, second only to the Zumwalter class. Compared with the increased displacement, the actual air defense capability of 052d is not much enhanced than that of 052c, and does not have relatively complete comprehensive combat power. For example, only one anti-submarine helicopter is equipped with eight anti-ship missiles and forty-eight regional air defense missiles, which are far lower than the destroyer of the same level. The only reasonable explanation is that the increased displacement of 052d is all used in the electromagnetic confrontation system.

If so, 052d will definitely surpass the same improved "Zumwalter" class. After completion, it will definitely be the most powerful battleship in the world with the most electromagnetic confrontation capabilities.

The reason is very simple. The redesigned "Zumwalter" class has only about 1,000 tons of displacement for electromagnetic confrontation systems, while the 052d is as high as 2,000 tons. Because China is not worse than the United States in the field of electromagnetic confrontation technology, the increased system weight is enough to determine the ability to cope.

Of course, these are all later stories.

Opposite the Lanzhou, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force did not have any warship with complete electromagnetic confrontation methods, even the four multi-purpose destroyers served after the Second Korean War.

The Chinese Navy's daring to challenge the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force at this time is not unrelated to its outstanding electromagnetic warfare capabilities.
