Chapter 128 - 3
On Shaoshi Mountain, more than 500 monks guarded the temple gate with swords and spears.
The torches in the courtyard lighted the sky, illuminating a shining bald head. The formation seemed grand, but everyone knew that Xia ** soldiers were like wolves and tigers, and their artillery was invincible. Once the official army came up the mountain, I was afraid that these five hundred monks would not be able to stop the officers and soldiers from rushing into the formation. At the critical moment of survival and death, the monks gathered in the Great Hall, with pale faces and anxiety surrounding the abbot Huineng.
The last time the Huichang Dharma was 300 years ago. Shaolin Temple is a famous temple for thousands of years and a favored Zen ancestral temple in history. After all, the Xia Dynasty court still respects Buddhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism and other religions. The court specially built a religious inquisition, and invited respected elders from all religions to attend the inquisition to identify the good and bad sects and prevent problems before they happened. This time, the court forced the redemption of land, and the monks thought that Shaolin Temple must be an exception, just like before. When the civil servants of Luoyang Prefecture who came to talk about redeeming the land were stopped at the foot of the mountain. When everyone was not in meditation, when the notice outside the temple wall was torn off, the monks could not have thought of this day.
The Great Hall is spacious and magnificent. Under the eaves in front of the hall, banners flutter, and magical instruments such as bells, drums, fragrances, fish and chimes are neatly placed on the Buddha's desk.
In front of the Buddha statue of Sakyamuni, there is a huge and heavy, exquisitely patterned large incense cauldron, which has never stopped cigarettes for three hundred years. This Buddha statue of Sakyamuni was cast by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang for twenty years after Huichang, and it has been more than two hundred and seventy years since then. I don’t know how many worldly things, such as gold, silver, blood and sweat, beads, gems, and jade. People present the most precious things in the world to the Buddha, and what they want is a variety of things, seeking food and clothing, seeking pleasure, seeking land, seeking business, seeking promotion, and seeking immortality. All kinds of things in the world are available. As the cigarette smoke lingers, Sakyamuni only stands high on the lotus platform, and has a bowl of seals in his hand, looking down at sentient beings.
"How should we deal with the abbot and the officers and soldiers surrounded the mountain?"
However, Abbot Huineng only meditated in the cushion, his eyes closed slightly, as if he was reciting scriptures silently. The other monks did not have the ability to meditate, and the officers and soldiers suddenly surrounded Shaoshi Mountain, and everyone suddenly felt that the building was about to collapse. When the disaster was about to come, they were distracted and they couldn't help but talk.
"It's difficult to do Dharma, it's difficult to do Dharma!"
"The government bullies people too much!"
"Is it possible that the temple property deed is handed over?"
"The temple property was given by the Emperor of Sui and Tang Dynasties, how can it be handed over at will?"
"They want Tian Qi, so they stepped on me and waited for the body to grab it!"
"We are willing to sacrifice our lives for the Dharma, and we should not be willing to die. But the thousand-year Taoist tradition has been cut off. How do you see the Patriarch Bodhidharma?"
There were many debates, and more monks looked at the abbot of the presidency, and their faces were pale. I wonder if they could survive the disaster in front of them. However, the abbot of the presidency kept his eyes closed and recited scriptures. Even if the hall was quarreled, he never opened his eyes. At this time, a novice monk hurriedly rushed into the door and said loudly: "Abbot, abbot." The monks looked at him one after another. The elder who kept the precepts almost did not reprimand him. The novice monk said again: "A guest came outside the mountain gate, claiming to be Master Huizhen, and he wanted to see the abbot!"
"Master Huizhen?"
"But Master Huizhen from Dacien Temple?"
"These are saved!"
"Is Master Huizhen really here?"
The monks whispered, some were overjoyed, while others had gloomy faces.
Although the Dharma-Shaping School and Zen School originated from the Buddhist lineage, the former is the Youth School and the latter is the Hunting School, which is not just about being beautiful and jealous.
In Dongtu, Shaolin Temple is the ancestral temple of Zen Buddhism, and Dacien Temple is the ancestral temple of Faxiang Sect. Zen Buddhism was founded by Master Bodhidharma. After it was passed down to the Sixth Patriarch, it was divided into Weiyang Sect, Linji Sect, Caodong Sect, Fayan Sect, and Yunmen Sect, which is the largest sect of Dongtu Buddhism. The Faxiang Sect was founded by Master Xuanzang of Tang, because the temple was located in Dacien Temple, also known as Cien Sect. Although the Faxiang Sect is not as long as Zen Buddhism, because of the origin of the Tang Xuanzang's journey to the West, Dacien Temple and the Buddha Temple in Tianzhu, especially Nalanda Temple, have had a very frequent exchange. Over the past hundred years, the Nalanda Temple has been known as nine million volumes of the Sutras of the Nalanda Temple, and almost all the disciples of the Faxiang Sect copied copies and transported back to Dacien Temple. If we talk about the richness of Tibetan classics, Dacien Temple can be said to be unique in the Dongtu world.
Among all Buddhist sects, the relationship between the Faxiang Sect and the court was the closest. The founder of the Faxiang Sect, Tang Xuanzang, claimed to be "performing his lifelong teachings and serving the country with all his loyalty", so he was respected by the Emperor of Tang as the "leader of the Fasect". After Xuanzang, the Faxiang Sect had a period of decline, and the Xia Kingdom established Chang'an as the Eastern Capital, and the Religious Inquisition was established in various places in the territory. The sect soon revived in Guanxi. The Faxiang Sect was known for its rigorous logic, and most of the proud disciples were proficient in various Chinese, Sanskrit, Dashi, Persian and other words, and often quoted them. The religious inquisition was the most important thing, and the Faxiang Sect could stand out in verbal battles. Although Zen disciples were good at making changes in their minds, they were often pale in the religious inquisition. Therefore, the Dacien Temple was also regarded by believers as the first Buddhist temple in the East.
Master Huizhen has opened a temple in Guandong many times. Although his tongue is brilliant, he can never completely convince the monks of Zen Buddhism. Now Shaolin is in danger of overturning, but he needs monks from the Dharma-Shadow Consciousness-Only Sect to solve the problem. The monks are inevitably uncomfortable. Master Huizhen is not only a great master of the Dharma-Shadow Sect, but also an elder of the Xia Kingdom Inquisition. If this identity is in Guandong, it will be similar to the high position of the national master. In Guanxi, Master Huizhen's influence is not only limited to Buddhism.
Abbot Huineng opened his eyes and said in a deep voice: "Please go to the abbot's room to meet him."
The abbot's room means one meter of square. According to the Vimalakirti Sutra, Vimalakirti is a Bodhisattva, and his bedroom is one meter of square, but he can accommodate the public. If this abbot's room is in the secular world, it is a humble room. However, when monks in temples practice Buddhism, ordinary monks can only live together, and only eminent monks can live like a different room. Even if there are two monks meeting at the foot of the mountain of the official army and the young man, a few monks will always be indispensable. Abbot Huineng asked the monk Huizhen to speak in the abbot's room, not to be proud of his identity, but to consider that the people in the hall are too quarrels, monk Huizhen must have many words that should not be shared by the public. If two or three rude people argue with monk Huizhen on the spot, they will probably ruin the entire temple.
Although Monk Huizhen is famous, he is actually not good-looking. He is wearing a coarse cloth robe. Anyone who sees him at first will think that this is just an old monk who swept the floor. When he walked into the Main Hall, the monks of Shaolin Temple, regardless of their acquaintance or not, regardless of their likes or dislikes, all stood up and put together as a ritual. Master Huizhen also put together and returned the ritual. The abbot's disciple led the way in front, and did not introduce the monks in the Main Hall for Master Huizhen, nor did he stop to greet him, and walked straight through the Main Hall.
In the Great Hall, many monks could only watch Master Huizhen and go straight into the abbot's meditation room behind.
The disciple was sent to the door of the meditation room, and Huizhen pushed the door open. These two Buddhist monks, one in Guanxi and the other in Guandong, had never met each other, but they seemed to be old acquaintances. Monk Huizhen looked at the arrangement of the meditation room and saw Xiao Ran in the four walls. There was nothing else in the room except for the scriptures and a set of tea sets. He couldn't help but smile and said, "I heard for a long time that my senior brother was strict in keeping the precepts. When I saw it today, it was indeed a false statement."
His words were not made without reason. The most important teachings in the Xia Dynasty, Monk Huizhen is also known for the most important precepts in Buddhism. However, there are many Buddhist scum in Kanto Kung Sect. Not only are the precepts slack, but they also use the advantage of making words and tongues to misinterpret Buddhism. In the Tang Dynasty, Wu Zetian killed the Li clan clan, and the monks of the Kong Sect argued that the Bodhisattva killed their parents. These behaviors were deeply hated by Monk Huizhen. He heard in Guanxi that there were monks in Shaolin Temple who did not observe the precepts. They not only drank and ate meat, but also claimed that "wine and meat passed through the intestines and kept them in the heart." At this time, he saw that Abbot Huineng was living in a pure and bitter place. He thought he was a monk who could keep the precepts, and his view of him was much better.
Although Monk Huizhen's words were praised, it was a different feeling to Abbot Huineng.
"There is no Bodhi tree, and the mirror is not a platform." Huineng looked around the room and said, "The master is attached to the appearance." His expression was as usual, and his tone was calm, as if this was a normal day. He was receiving a great monk who came to meditate and talk about Buddhism in the abbot's room. After this calmness, Monk Huizhen nodded secretly in his heart and said bluntly: "Abbot Huineng, the army of the Xia Kingdom, is not careful at the foot of the mountain. If you are not careful, it will be a difficult task. I will not have a dispute between two sects. Instead, I persuade the abbot not to use the ancestral court of Zen as a bet, and to test the court's determination to use troops to implement the "Redification and Buying the Equal Field Method."
"Empty is existence, and existence is emptiness. How can there be a dispute over emptiness and existence?" Huineng replied, "I still think that the Emptiness Sect is slightly better."
Monk Huizhen was originally a man with a good temper, but he couldn't help but swear. He drove hundreds of miles overnight to save the situation. The Shaolin abbot looked like he was not painful, and he was really unbearable. Just when Monk Huizhen could hardly resist his temper, Abbot Huine finally reached the point: "Senior brother thought that he was a Buddhist lineage, and Shaolin all felt great. However, the senior brother thought that at the foot of the Shaoshi Mountain in Chen Bing, was it necessary for Xia Kingdom to coerce me to obey Shaolin, or would he really want to rob the temple property? If Shaolin did not hand over the field contract, would they really attack the mountain gate?"
"If they don't hand over the Tianqi, they will definitely take action."
"Luoyang Prefecture has made the worst preparations. If the entire Shaolin Temple is killed, a group of monks will be invited from Luoyang White Horse Temple. However, when it reaches that point, Shaolin will become the lower courtyard of White Horse Temple, and the Shaolin Zen lineage will be really cut off from then on." Huizhen's tone was filled with a hint of inspiration. When he passed through the river, he saw the so-called "Thousand-headed Tombs" and "Corpsy Valley" with his own eyes. Therefore, Shaolin monks may still speculate that the court was just a demonstration, and Huizhen would never doubt the determination of the Xia ** team to use force.
