Section 19 Progress
Progress of the Nineteenth Section
The shouts of killing outside the city shook the sky.
A small group of people quietly emerged from the street. Each of these people was wearing patchwork armor, holding spears, short swords and other such messy weapons. Anyone could tell at a glance that this group of people was a completely chaotic group, a group without discipline or courage. Just a small team of professional soldiers was enough to disperse them. In fact, the same was true. All the members of this team were ordinary citizens, who had been temporarily gathered and had not received any training.
But fortunately, the army guarding the city is no longer sufficient at this moment. The enemy launched an attack from all directions at the same time. The defenders had to do their best to barely resist it, and had no spare energy to monitor the movements in the city.
"No one! Come on, open the city gate! Let Duke Ryan's army enter the city!"
The situation in front of him quickly aroused the courage of these temporarily armed citizens. They rushed forward and opened the side door with all their might. One of the bravest people went out to greet the friendly troops outside, while the others guarded the city gate uneasily.
But all worries were completely unnecessary. A few minutes later, the fully armed knights of Casillos rushed in from the gate. The citizens immediately came up to greet them, and they immediately took the knights to attack all the key points in the city.
"Duke Ryan, we have won." An officer said, pointing to the flags hanging high in the city.
"Yeah." Ryan nodded.
The Paro defenders were still fighting stubbornly just now. But when the Paro flag in the center of the city was suddenly replaced by Casilos's long-sword flag, they immediately began to defeat the entire line. Casilos's knights and militia climbed up to the city gate, rushing into the city gate, chasing and slashing every Paro people they could find.
Simple...simple...it's really too simple! It's not difficult at all!
To the west, the main force of Paro's army was firmly blocked by the St. Gene Expeditionary Force led by Thomas. In the east, the St. Gene's army was also tightly guarded by the Paro's castle defense line. Now he was allowed to gallop across the vast land between the two.
Almost all the lords of Casilos joined him when they saw his long-sword flag of the scorching sun and swore allegiance to him. No city under the control of the Paro people could withstand him for three days.
What can I do? The Paros were invaders and received hatred from the local residents - which most of the invaders have - when the citizens of the city saw the flag of the King Casillos outside the city, they would immediately find ways to do their best to serve the siege troops. They would attack the defenders, steal the city gates, create chaos at night, and use all means to help their own troops. And now there are too few Paros in each city to suppress such internal betrayal. The only thing they can do is to carry out some futile resistance and add a considerable result to the "Duke of Ryan"'s record.
Now, Ryan no longer has to worry that his self-proclaimed "duke" will be exposed. Because he has led a large army and has almost completely controlled this vast land. He himself does have the blood of the Casillos (although it is a side branch), so he can have the right to hold the flag of the long sword of the scorching sun and treat it as his own coat of arms.
Originally, only the king could own this flag, but Casilos had no king now. As for Princess Irina... this is thanks to the Paro people. They tried hard to spread the news of the destruction of the Casilos royal family everywhere to defeat the lords' confidence in resistance. However, they did not mention Princess Irina's successful escape to Saint Gene, and used all means to block the news.
So no one questioned Ryan's power to raise this flag.
The shouts of killing in the city slowly subsided. There was no resistance on the city wall, and soldiers were pouring in from the city gate in groups. Soon, it was Duke Ryan's turn to enter the city.
After being occupied by the invaders for a year, when they saw Casillos' regular army again, the citizens would cheer and salute him and serve him. Is there a second possibility?
Ryan signaled to follow the follower beside him, then gently pinched the horse's belly, allowing the horse to walk towards the city gate with a solemn and stable pace.
...
Ashu Rufate swung his sword and split the Paro soldier in front, and his blood splattered all over him with screams.
But in just a moment, another Paro soldier holding an axe and a shield jumped off the wall along the ladder, and chopped off a knight's helmet with an axe. The axe split the helmet and embedded it deeply into the knight's head. The knight used the last power of his life to pierce the sword through the other party's chest. The two fell down together.
"Earl, I can't support you anymore! Reinforcements are coming soon!" Behind him, a knight who was breathing in his sword station shouted at him.
It was almost at its limit. The Paro people rushed up to the city wall regardless of their own efforts, and the entire defense line entered a hand-to-hand combat.
Ashu Rufate rushed to the entrance of the ladder, he grabbed the wind of flame, and then threw a whole ball of flame energy down. The greasy grease squeezed into his pores. And the Paro screams came from below.
For the time being, no enemy will come up on this ladder. Ashu Rufate turned around and ordered loudly to the trumpet. The sound of the trumpet for help sounded rhythmically. Then, a commotion came from one end of the city wall, and a whole team of Holy Grail Knights walked up the city wall. Their shields were painted with the pattern of blessing from the God of Nature.
The Holy Grail Knights lined up in an extremely neat square, crushing the entire city wall like an iron wall, crushing all the enemies who climbed the city wall. They didn't look like a battle at all, because they were all singing passionately and shouting in absolute joy.
The last few enemies were sandwiched between the Holy Grail Knights and the knights led by Ashu Rufat, and they had no support anymore. Because the Paro people were blowing the call to withdraw under the city wall.
These Paro soldiers were full of fear, but their fear of surrender was much greater than their fear of death. They screamed desperately, and then rushed to the battle line of the Holy Grail Knights, all of which died in battle.
Since the murder of prisoners on each other that day, both sides have been red-eyed. Unless they were seriously injured and lost their ability to move, no one surrendered. No one thought of captives on such a terrible day.
Asu Ruffat looked at the retreating Paro army from the city. In the fierce and bloody battles every day, he even forgot what day the enemy had filled the trenches? Anyway, they were now free to push the siege vehicles to the city. Although they did not build large equipment like the siege tower, they built many siege ladders. They were not those simple ladders, but like steps, high and long, and could be installed on the vehicle directly up the siege ladders on the top of the city. Rows of siege ladders were built on the city walls, and then there was an endless war of attrition.
Fortunately, the magical combat power of both sides is now equal. After the suicide attack that day, the magicians suddenly decreased a lot. Now the magic of both sides is attacking and defending, which is generally comparable, and even the city guards have the upper hand.
He glanced at the Holy Grail Knights, who stopped for a moment and immediately walked under the city wall. The Holy Grail Knights have played extremely important roles these days, always appearing in the most critical position, reversing every crisis. However, there are fewer and fewer Holy Grail Knights. When they set out, they originally had three hundred Holy Grail Knights, but now there are only more than one hundred left.
Under the city wall, the bodies of the Paro people were stacked together. So many corpses made people involuntarily question "how many people died". A small part of the trench filled with mud and gravel, most of them were corpses. Each corpse was frozen hard, and looked at this cruel world with eyes that were dying with their eyes closed.
"Check the casualties!" Ashurufat patrolled the city and urged his subordinates to do the aftermath. All dead and undead Paro people stripped their clothes and dragged them away to incinerate. The dead and injured on their own side need to be properly handled, especially the injured. The female prophet Feier is responsible for treating the wounded in the city. As long as it is not injured in internal organs, it only takes two or three days to heal. This greatly boosted the morale of the soldiers and greatly reduced the casualties of the defenders.
"Carely monitor the enemy's movements, I'll go to the city to see." After everything was basically over, Ashurufat ordered that it was already dusk, and the Paro people should not kill and shoot back. However, necessary vigilance is still indispensable.
He walked towards the wound camp in the center of the castle. Every day the dead and the injured were sent here to receive treatment from Feier. It must be noted that for the prophets, there is no difference between treating one person and treating all the wounded. They just grasped the wind of life, separated the thin magic energy from the bush and sprinkled on everyone.
Many people misunderstand that female prophets can revive the dead. But this idea is actually a mistake. The female prophet can indeed force a stream of life energy into the body of the dying person when he has no choice but to regain their vitality immediately. However, the consequence of this is that the wounded will undoubtedly die after the battle. Therefore, whenever possible, they will choose this stable and slow treatment.
Unfortunately, this treatment is almost ineffective for inflamed wounds. Swelling wounds cannot be closed, while the "myself" that can reduce swelling has no reserve.
Leo was already in the wounded barracks. Two days ago, he got a bullet in his chest, so he was temporarily responsible for logistics and other chores. The south is now commanded by William Daly.
"Two hundred and sixty people were killed, and more than three hundred and thirty people were injured." Leo's pale face was full of helplessness. "Fortunately, two hundred people recovered from injury today. Finally, we can maintain our defense tomorrow."
Today is the day with the most casualties, and the expeditionary force is almost exhausted. However, the Paro's most elite knight troops have not yet appeared.
"Count Ashu Rufat." With this voice, the prophet Feier appeared before them.
The prophet was wearing green clothes like gauze. It looked particularly eye-catching in this cold winter day. The lower part of her dress was fluttering without wind, like a smoke floating by the lake. It was as if she was stepping on the ground not on the earth, but on the lake.
"Ms. Fei'er." Ashu Rufat returned the gift. "Sorry, I'm covered in blood and haven't had time to clean it."
"You don't have to be polite. In extraordinary times, we don't have to pay attention to these politeness. These days, people are talking about you everywhere."
"Speaking of me? It's not bad things."
"Not bad things. There are legends about your deeds everywhere, and even the Holy Grail Knights secretly applaud. They said that Earl Ashurufat stood on the battlefield with a slim heart and incomparable determination. He could drink blood with every blow of his sword, and his magic became an eternal nightmare for the Paro people."
Fei'er smiled slightly, and a strange expression appeared on her face without traces of time, but it passed away immediately.
"Also, General Thomas wants to see you." After saying this, she left.
