Section 5 Etiquette
On the edge of the desert is a large forest.
This is a very wonderful wonder that only nature can create: on one side is desolate land, full of gravel, rocks, and a very small shrub. But at just a few hundred steps, countless greens are added immediately.
A small river meanders here. It has nurtured this forest and blocked the pace of the desert here.
There was a large area of camp on the flat ground where there were no people and only a few wild animals appeared. At some point, there were a large area of camps. A trenches were dug and wooden stake walls were built next to the camp.
Although it is a very simple fortification, its defense ability is quite good. According to the book, it is extremely difficult to break through such a camp unless the attacker has twice the advantage of combat power.
At dawn, the sentry on the wooden stake wall saw two people coming from the south, and of course a horse.
This made him a little alert - but not very alert. Because one or two people could not have any threats. Moreover, two people and one horse mean that the other party is not a messenger or something.
In response to the two figures that suddenly appeared, the sentry shouted a few times to the camp. So the main entrance of the camp was opened, and five or six people holding weapons came to the door.
However, this slightly vigilant move was obviously meaningless. Because soon after, the sharp-eyed man recognized the figure walking in front of him.
"Ah, that's Claire, is she back?" someone said.
"Yes, it's her! But who is the person behind her?" the other person whispered to himself.
"She brought back a horse...ahha, it looked like a good horse. Hey, there seemed to be something on the horse's back. It seemed that she had gained a lot! This time, no one else could say that she was not good at this coming-of-age ceremony."
"I said she is a very promising girl. She also has a great crossbow."
The other party is closer to the camp entrance. Now, everyone can see that there are a lot of things on the horse's back. The most conspicuous one is a yellow wolf skin.
There are many other skins mixed with wolf skin. Those are common hares on the edge of the desert. Although this season is not the time when rabbits are the fattest, they are still considered a big harvest. Although rabbit skin is small, it is also of small use.
The two arrived at the entrance of the camp.
The guards at the door were no longer hostile at this time, but just looked at the two men and a horse with curious eyes. Walking ahead was the familiar Claire, a girl hunting alone for the coming-of-age ceremony, and behind her was a strange man wearing a gray cloak.
There was a very eye-catching scar in the middle of the man's face, that is, the bridge of his nose. The steady and agile movement of this man walking, coupled with the eye-catching scar on his nose, everyone could instinctively feel the toughness. If we follow the southerners' words, it would be that the temperament of a soldier was revealed all over his body.
Moreover, from his equipment, his clothes, hats, and shoes, it can be clearly seen that this person is from the south.
The stranger was leading the horse. It was a pretty good riding horse, but there was a lot of stuff on his back. The ones that could be distinguished were a wolf skin, five or more rabbit skins, a wild goat skin, and a lot of bacon.
If this horse is added, it will be a great harvest. If a young man can get so much prey, there will be no problem with coming-of-age ceremony. No one can blame him for being incompetent.
They came in along the gate. Although Ashu Rufate did not look around, he had already taken the situation of the entire tribe into consideration. This tribe is not a large tribe. According to his speculation, the number should be around 500, and at most no more than 700 people. The guards in the tribe are quite simple, at least Ashu Rufate did not see the familiar Chaos Armor, let alone the more advanced magic armors of Chaos Champions and Lords.
A tribe of this size... should be a small tribe, or even a very small tribe. You should know that the Chaos Legion that invaded Groney often reached tens of thousands.
What made him a little strange was that although he was a stranger, no one came forward to question him. But there were about a dozen people - all soldiers with weapons - following them. Claire seemed to have known about this for a long time, and she didn't ask much, and went straight to the center of the camp.
Here, there is a relatively rare tent. The reason why it is rare is not because of its size, but because of its...gorgeousness.
Perhaps it is very strange to describe a tent as "gorgeous". But Ashrufate can't find any other way to explain the feeling of the tent. Flowers are embroidered on the tent, and they are dyed with precious dyes.
Then, a man walked out of the tent.
Although the clothes of others around him, even Claire, were simple or practical, the man was dressed very luxuriously. Even at the noble dance of the Hawk City, it was rare to see such luxuriously dressed men. His velvet robe was woven with gold threads into various beautiful patterns, just like a peacock with open-screen, white silk gloves, and shoes of excellent texture, making people almost forget that this was a simple camp.
A man is not very old, about fifty years old, and his hair is combed very smoothly and neatly. To be honest, putting aside other aspects, he gives people a strong sense of femininity. Or we can use a simpler and more common word to describe it, that is: sissy.
"Claire, you're back." The man spoke, his voice soft, with an indescribable charm. But he had some twists. "It seems that your hunting went smoothly."
His eyes remained on Ashu Rufate, and then swept over the horse and its prey on its back.
"You have a great harvest." His eyes returned to Ashu Rufate. "Even captured a slave."
Ashu Rufate frowned.
"He is not my prisoner." Claire finally spoke.
"Not your prisoner? Then, this horse is not your trophy?"
“Yes…yes.”
"You mean, you came back without bringing back the trophy in the wilderness?"
"No!" This time it was Ashu Rufate who spoke. "There are all her spoils on the horse."
"So, who are you?" asked the strange man who spoke. "Ah, maybe such a question would seem rude. My name is Asovin, I am the wizard of Prince Huanyu and the current leader of this tribe."
"My name is Ashu Rufate." Ashu Rufate replied. "A..." He had no intention of hiding his origin. "A traveler from the south."
"Claire," Asovin glanced at the girl. "When you see an alone traveler, you go up and invite him to visit our tribe? This is really... a rare thing."
"It seems that not many southerners come here." Ash Rufate said.
"Yes, there are really not many," Ahsovin admitted. "Even is the first time I have seen people from the south. Of course, I mean the lonely traveler who came here. So, this guest - please allow me to call you that - you come to me, I wonder what is the price for you?"
"I just hope..." said Ashu Rufate. "Live here for a short while." Ashu Rufate felt that he had no need to hide his purpose. "I hope to learn some knowledge about living in the north and prepare for my next journey."
"Ah, ah, this requirement is very simple," said Asovin. "As long as you get the consent of a formal member of the tribe, you can share the same tent with him and temporarily be a member of the tribe. However, I believe you also understand that this means you cannot receive special preferential treatment. Of course, I promise not to discriminate against you - it is the same as most members of the tribe."
"Thank you so much," Ash Rufate replied. "I... am a good chef, and I believe I can prove that I am a useful person."
"Thank you a little too early." Asovin smiled, unable to say whether the smile was malicious or kind. "I said, first of all, you must get the consent of a full member of the tribe. Who is the person who invited you to share your accommodation and food with you?"
"I can..." the girl wanted to speak.
"You are not a full member yet, Claire." Asovin interrupted Claire with his previous smile. "I admit that if the things you bring back this time are your trophy - including captives, horses and prey - then everyone will recognize your full membership in advance, including me. But now, all you bring back is prey."
His gaze stopped on the crossbow on Claire's waist. "And, you missed a great opportunity to make people wonder if your ability...has reached an adult level."
Claire actually wanted to say that this man named Ashu Rufate is far less harmless than he said. However, they had reached a confidential agreement before. Ashu Rufate has indeed fulfilled his promise. Most of the prey of so many prey were obtained by Ashu Rufate.
Prince Huanyu's creed does not include lying. She finally decided to keep her promise, so she didn't say anything.
"If there is no invitation from the official member... will I have to leave?" Ashu Rufat asked.
"Ha... leave?" Someone laughed behind him. Ashu Rufate turned around and saw a thick man with a fleshy face, holding a spear in his hand. Others' spears were held in their hands, with the spear tip facing the sky (this is also the correct way to hold the spear in normal times), but he raised the spear flat, aiming the spear tip at Ashu Rufate's chest from afar.
It seems that it cannot be good. Ashu Rufate sighed softly in his heart.
"Wait a minute, I should still have a chance!" Claire finally spoke. "Let God decide whether I am qualified."
"Yes, this is exactly what I want to say." Asowen said. His eyes were on Aso Ruffat, just like a butcher trying to figure out the weight of the livestock to be slaughtered. Of course, as mentioned earlier, Aso Ruffat's equipment was really very simple, and there was almost nothing worth coveting. So Aso Ruffat quickly turned away his gaze.
