Chapter 2 The Missing Corpse

"Are you sure you won't take a shower first?" Bai Xiaodian sat at the desk and looked at the dirt-faced guy in front of him with disgust. The other party's attention was on the box of half-eat biscuits, completely ignoring her words.

Bai Xiaodian was too lazy to care about her and lowered her head to continue her work.

Two years ago, she was assigned to this public security bureau. Because her grandfather and cousin lived here, she didn't know anyone at home and had no money, the leader called her special care, so that she would not leave her hometown, and she was assigned to this small place. Seeing that other classmates had gone to big cities, she was a little disappointed, but this sense of loss only lasted for less than half a minute. Who is she? Bai Xiaodian! What's wrong with the small place? Gold will shine wherever it is! My master, I just want to achieve some results in this small place!

"The third one... Hiss... Li Village, there is also... it cannot be a coincidence..." Bai Xiaodian looked at the messy information on the table, outlining it with one hand with a pen, and the other hand habitually pulling his hair.

"Cousin, what are you muttering?" Mao Shan leaned over with the biscuit box in her arms, chewing the biscuits in her mouth, and her words were a little confused.

"The case that happened these days is quite strange. Don't eat it, come and take a look for me." Bai Xiaodian looked up at the shank who was eating biscuits.

"You say, I'll listen." Mao Shan kept sending the biscuits into her mouth for a moment. As she spoke, she sprayed some biscuit residue on Bai Xiaodian's information, which made Bai Xiaodian roll her eyes. The dry food was sweet and crispy, which suited her taste. She and her senior sister chased the white-haired zombie for a whole two days, and then squatted in the grass for a night. The rice was not stuck and she was seriously injured. How could she not be hungry?

"Two people died in Zhendong last week. The deceased was named Wang Mao and Xing Xiaotian. Wang Mao suddenly died in his office, Xing Xiaotian died in his home, and both of them were alone in the room before their death. The forensic doctor examined that the deceased had no fatal trauma and no sign of poisoning, so he died of cardiovascular disease. But the day after the death of these two people, Wang Mao's body disappeared, and on the third day, Xing Xiaotian's body also disappeared."

Speaking of this, Bai Xiaodian handed a stack of information to Mao Shan, and then got up and poured her a glass of water.

"It was also last week that a farmer in Li Village died suddenly while working in the field. His death was exactly the same as Wang Mao and Xing Xiaotian, with no scars on the surface. The third night after this person died, his body also disappeared. I went to Li Village yesterday, and when I went there, another person died. This person was Li Dacheng, the eldest son of Li Farmer, and..." Bai Xiaodian paused, took a breath and continued, "I happened to be at his house at that time, and he died in front of me."

Mao Shan looked at Bai Xiaodian and waited for her to continue, while feeding the last piece of biscuit into her mouth.

"Li Dacheng came to accompany his wife to her parents' home to visit relatives. After hearing the news of his father's death, he hurried back to Li Village. His wife went to the hospital because of a severe cold and fever the night before, and could not go back to him. The people in Li Village said that during the funeral of Li farmers, Li Erguang, did not see Li Erguang's second son, Li Dacheng, lived at home. I also found out that Li Erguang borrowed usury loans, and the previous deceased Wang Mao and Xing Xiaotian were his two biggest creditors. Last week, on the day Wang Mao and Xing Xiaotian died, someone saw Li Erguang go to the town."

"My cousin suspects Li Erguang?" Mao Shan slapped off the biscuit residue on his hand and the clothes, threw the empty biscuit box and information back to the table, picked up the water cup and drank it all.

"It's very suspicious, but there is no evidence at the moment. By the way, I've asked the forensic doctor before. They checked it very carefully and there should be no possibility of ignoring a certain wound." Bai Xiaodian looked at the biscuit residue stained by Maoshan's mouth and handed her a pack of tissues.

"So it's poisoning?" After taking the thing handed over by Bai Xiaodian, fiddling with it, the purpose was not seen. Anyway, it was not eaten. Mao Shan casually put the tissue on the table. "Some poisons will not appear in the early stage of the poisoning. Although the poisoned person has died, the toxicity may not be detected one to two weeks after the poisoned person dies."

"Well, I think so too. After the murderer killed someone, in order not to see that the body was strange, he stole the body. I have brought Li Dacheng's body back, but to find out what the corpse is, I can only wait until the toxicity of the body appears. I am worried that more people will be killed during this period." Bai Xiaodian leaned on the back of the chair and said, "Just today, Xing Xiaotian's colleague Long Zhongming died, and his death was the same as the previous four dead."

"There is another one that is very suspicious." Mao Shan touched her chin with her right hand and looked at Bai Xiaodian.

"What is the reason that the murderer can take such a great risk to steal three corpses under the noses of everyone? If you just want to disguise yourself as a disease, wouldn't stealing the corpse be too much, and instead attract the attention of others."

Mao Shan nodded, Bai Xiaodian asked again, "On the night the body was stolen, was there no one in the deceased's home?"

"It's a coincidence that Wang Mao's family members fell asleep after drinking too much that night. When they woke up the next day, they found that the coffin was empty, and Wang Mao's body was gone. Xing Xiaotian's body disappeared when the night watchman went to the toilet in the middle of the night. As for the farmer Li, only Li Dacheng was vigilant at that time. Li Dacheng had been in poor health since he was a child. He couldn't stand the sleepy night that night, so he fell asleep... By the way, according to the families of several deceased, no suspicious traces were found at the scene of the stolen body. I don't know how the corpse thief used to transport the body away so quickly."

"Is it possible that the corpse thief and the murderer are not the same?"

"It should be impossible. The three stolen corpses died exactly the same way, and it will take at least two and a half hours to drive from the town to Li Village. If you just steal the corpses, why not choose a place close to them? But there are three people who are thousands of miles apart and have the same death? This shows that their corpses are directly related to their death! Even if they are not the same person, they are the same group."

"Have you brought back both bodies?" Mao Shan shook his head, always feeling something was wrong.

"It's all in the old man's place."

"Who is the old man?" Mao Shan suddenly turned his head and asked Bai Xiaodian.

"Your grandpa, my grandpa~"

"My grandpa?"

"Yes, do you want to go and have a look?"

The scene of the old man holding up a feather duster to suck himself just now appeared in his mind. Mao Shan shook his head: "It's getting late, let's go tomorrow."

"Yes, now there is a strange cunning place." Bai Xiaodian muttered to himself, and then he shouted to Mao Shan: "Cousin, please go back and rest first, remember to take a shower." After saying that, he smiled without leaving any trace.

"This... cousin, can you please lead the way?" Mao Shan doesn't even know where he lives, so how can he go back...

"Cousin, why...why are you... weird?" Bai Xiaodian originally wanted to say, you wouldn't be fooled by lightning, right...

"To be honest, I was struck by lightning, but I didn't remember anything after I woke up..." Mao Shan prayed that she could get away with it.

"Then why did you come back?" Bai Xiaodian asked.

"I don't know, but I arrived at the door of the public security bureau as I walked... and then I was called in by a man, and then I met my grandfather and you..."

"Can it be that I have lost my memory?" Bai Xiaodian stared at Mao Shan for a long time, and found that she didn't seem to be joking. She frowned and stood up and walked downstairs.

Mao Shan followed Bai Xiaodian into the corridor. She had a vague premonition and asked immediately: "Cousin, can I say...I live with my grandfather?"

"You live next to him, he lives next to the morgue."

"Mortal?" Mao Shan trembled without a trace when she heard this. It was indeed not a good place. The morgue, if you move your mind a little, you will know that it is the place where the corpse is parked.

"Why, are you scared? You didn't want to move out with me when I asked you to move out, now do you regret it?" Bai Xiaodian looked at Mao Shan with gloating expressions, "The morgue is already gloomy enough, and you have to add an old man. I don't know what you thought before, don't you feel scared at all?" She muttered.

"What's wrong with adding a grandpa?" Mao Shan felt a little depressed, and was puzzled by what the Mao Shan thought before. How could he like to live next to the morgue?

"You can experience this slowly. Maybe in a few days you will feel like you did before." As they spoke, they had already arrived at the end of the corridor, "Let's go straight out of the corridor, there are five rooms in the bottom, and the third room is your room."

Mao Shan followed Bai Xiaodian and looked around. It was a small open-air courtyard. Apart from the four rooms on their right, there was no other building in the courtyard, and there was not even a tree. On the left was a blank gray cement wall, which extended to the open space behind the yard, connected to a black automatic iron door. In front of the iron door, two blue and white police cars were parked in the yard. Of course, Mao Shan naturally did not recognize any automatic iron doors and police cars. She only thought it was a tall black fence and two small houses with strange shapes.

It seemed that it began to drizzle outside again. The big trees were blown by the wind and reflected sparse shadows on the wall, blurring the faint light of the energy-saving lamp without a lampshade on the top of the wall. It looked like beasts opening their mouths, ready to swallow everyone in the house at any time. The two shivered.

When passing the first room, the shank stopped at an old iron door. The iron door was rusty, but the large lock hanging in the center of the door was very new. There was a small gap at the connection between the iron door and the wall, and a faint light shone out from the small gap.

She couldn't help but bent down and looked into the crack of the door. Two oil lamps in the house flickered and two white outlines were vaguely seen under the dim light.

Is it a person?
