Chapter 106 Zhao Kuangyin pacified the Southern Han Dynasty

When Qian Chuanguan was stationed in Yuhang, Yanshou, who was only sixteen years old, wrote an article "Qi Tianfu" to contribute Qian Chuanguan. Many people thought the young man was very talented, so they recommended him to become an official in the officialdom. At the age of twenty-eight, Yanshou entered the stage of Wuyue Kingdom and became the general of Huating Town. However, Yanshou seemed to be born without a chance in the officialdom and was born with a chance in Buddhism. During his tenure, he liked to buy fish and shrimp caught by fishermen to release them.

A small Huating town general had a low income, so he quickly spent his savings due to releasing animals. However, the major matter of releasing animals must be done. Therefore, he decided to embezzle the money from the tax treasury to continue to implement his major matter of releasing animals. The private embezzlement of the money from the tax treasury was a death penalty in Wuyue Kingdom, and Releasing Life was sentenced to death without any dispute. Releasing Life was not afraid, and he looked calm before the execution, calmly chanting "Amitabha Buddha".

Qian Chuan, who highly praised Buddhism, was moved by the actions of prolonging his life and immediately ordered the crime of prolonging his life. Yanshou, who escaped from death, saw through the world, stayed away from the officialdom, became a monk, and lived in Tiantai wise man Yan. He was very eloquent, and later visited Deshao Kingdom and suddenly realized it. He was called "You will carry out Buddhist affairs in the future."

Qian Chu naturally would not neglect the talents that the national teacher Deshao liked. Yanshou was immediately invited to Hangzhou to preside over the comprehensive reconstruction and repair project of Lingyin Temple. The reconstruction, the renovated Lingyin Temple has more than 500 monks' houses and more than 1,500 halls. The corridors and veranda are connected to the abbot. The entire temple has nine floors, eighteen pavilions, and seventy-two halls, which are renamed "Xin Lingyin Temple".

After the completion of Xinlingyin Temple, it was very prosperous and attracted a large number of monks to live there. At its peak, there were more than 3,000 monks living in the temple and hanging out alone, including some overseas Buddhists. Master Yanshou also became famous. After moving to Jingci Temple, Yanshou took the heart as his sect and the purpose of enlightenment, and saved 1,700 disciples, and wrote a hundred volumes of sect mirror. He was awarded the title of Zen Master Zhijue and became a famous Buddhist monk.

Whether it is Jingci Temple, Lingyin Temple, Induction Tower or Huqiu Tower, although it is well-known, it is still slightly inferior to the building below. That is Leifeng Tower, and the real builder of this tower is Qian Chu, King of Wu Yue.

The reason why Leifeng Pagoda is famous is that the story of the Legend of White Snake is the greatest contribution. "The Legend of White Snake" was originally published in the Northern Song Dynasty and was originally spread by oral communication. Later, the people appeared in various forms such as judging, storytelling, and tantci.

Anyone who has read the Legend of White Snake will know the Leifeng Pagoda beside the West Lake in Hangzhou. In the eighth year of Kaibao, Qian Chu decided to build a pagoda beside the West Lake in order to give his beloved Huang Fei a Buddhist snail hair. The pagoda was planned to build a 100-thirteen-story floor. Later, due to insufficient financial resources, only five floors were built, more than 40 meters high. The pagoda was originally named Huang Fei Pagoda, but later it was renamed Leifeng Pagoda because it was located in Xianyan Courtyard of Leifeng, Nanping Mountain.

During the reign of the Qian family, a group of highly skilled construction craftsmen emerged with the construction of temple pagodas, and Yu Hao was the most famous. Yu Hao was from Hangzhou, and his birth year was unknown. He died in the second year of Duangong in the Northern Song Dynasty. Yu Hao was originally a low-ranking architectural craftsman in Hangzhou City of Wuyue. If he had no Qian Chu's Daxing Temple Pagoda, Yu Hao could only spend his life in obscurity.

The pagoda of Daxing Temple in Wuyue Kingdom gave Yu Hao the opportunity to make a name for himself. Yu Hao was diligent in the process of building high-rise buildings such as pagodas.

He is good at thinking, good at learning, and accumulated experience, showing his superb design level and construction technology, which is later called "Taluban".

Qian Chu once built a wooden pagoda at the Brahma Temple in Hangzhou. After the wooden pagoda was completed, Qian Chu climbed the tower to inspect it. However, the tower body was shaking. It was not Yu Hao who was responsible for building the wooden pagoda, but another craftsman. The craftsman racked his brains and tried his best to solve this problem, so he was forced to ask Yu Hao for advice.

Yu Hao had an answer to this, and his reply was: It was very simple. As long as the school floor was covered with wooden boards and nailed to death, the tower body could be stable. The craftsmen did it according to Yu Hao's suggestion, and the problem of shaking the tower body was indeed solved. Yu Hao's reputation quickly spread in Wuyue Kingdom.

However, the peak of Yu Hao's profession was not in the country of Wu and Yue, but in the Northern Song Dynasty. After the final demise of Wu and Yue Kingdom, Yu Hao, as a master in building pagodas, was summoned to Kaifeng by Zhao Guangyi, the later Emperor Taizong of Song Dynasty, to serve the Northern Song Dynasty. During the Taiping Xingguo period, Zhao Guangyi wanted to build an eleventh-level wooden pagoda in Kaibao Temple in Kaifeng, so he drew skilled craftsmen from various places to build and appointed Yu Hao as the commander-in-chief.

In order to successfully complete this huge project, Yu Hao devoted all his life skills and experience and led the craftsmen to eight years to finally complete the magnificent 13-story glazed pagoda: Kaibao Temple Pagoda. The Kaibao Temple Pagoda is 360 feet high. It is the tallest of all the pagodas in the local area and the most exquisite building at that time.

Shortly after the completion of Kaibao Temple Pagoda, Yu Hao died of illness. In his later years, Yu Hao compiled a professional book on building wooden structures based on the experience of craftsmen of all generations and his own. This is the first professional book in ancient China to describe house construction technology and is a valuable material for building wooden structures at that time. Ouyang Xiu, a great writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, once commented on Yu Hao, "the first carpenter since the National Dynasty"!

Qian Chu was enthusiastic, and believed in Buddhism devoutly, expanded temples and built pagodas, Zhao Kuangyin of the Northern Song Dynasty was not idle either. After quickly seizing Jingnan and Hunan, Zhao Kuangyin targeted the next Hou Shu Kingdom that dominated Sichuan. Hou Shu Kingdom was soon destroyed by Zhao Kuangyin, and his actions to unify the world took another big step. It is estimated that in another one or two years, Zhao Kuangyin could achieve his grand goal of unifying the world. As one of the separatist forces, Wu Yue Kingdom, will inevitably become the object of the Northern Song Dynasty.

Qian Chu has been paying attention to the latest progress of the situation. Looking at the remaining neighbors who are still surviving, none of them can be called an opponent of the Northern Song Dynasty. Zhao Kuangyin only needs a little effort to blow all his opponents to ashes, and Qian Chu feels huge pressure to survive.

The huge pressure stimulated Qian Chu's motivation to survive. He did not dare to hope that Zhao Kuangyin and the Northern Song Dynasty would let Wu Yue go. He only hoped that he could use his humble and obedient attitude to exchange for the prosperity and peace of Wu Yue. He would strive to be the last one if he died!

The increase in the number of tributes and the increase in the value of tribute gifts is naturally necessary. In addition, Qian Chu also sent his prince to serve as the tribute envoy himself. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, it was normal for various countries to fight and talk and make trouble. Diplomacy groups often interacted with each other, but there were few cases of the prince being sent to other countries as diplomatic envoys.

The prince is not

The heirs who came to the throne would never go to another country at will. In case of a situation, it would be basically "a meat bun to beat a dog without going back." However, in order to show their absolute loyalty and obedience to Zhao Kuangyin and the Northern Song Dynasty, Qian Chu resolutely sent the crown prince of Wuyue Qian Weirui to carry tens of thousands of gold, silver, pearl vessels, rhino elephants, and fragrant medicine to pay tribute to the Northern Song Dynasty in October of the fourth year of Gande.

In October of the first year of Kaibao, Qian Weirui, the prince who had just returned to Wuyue Kingdom, was sent by his father to the Northern Song Dynasty as a tribute envoy. Qian Chu's loyal, pious, obedient, and humble performance moved Zhao Kuangyin very much. The neighbors around the Northern Song Dynasty, such as the Northern Han and the Southern Han, were rebellious and stubbornly confronted each other, and were the targets that must be eliminated. For example, Southern Tang and Chen Hongjin, who were on the surface, would surrender to the Northern Song Dynasty, secretly made small moves. Only Qian Chu and his Wu Yue have been consistent for many years and dared not have the slightest disrespect.

Zhao Kuangyin was not very willing to fight against such an obedient and honest younger brother, and perhaps he should give Qian Chu some comfort! In March of the first year of Kaibao, Qian Chu finally received the reward he deserved for his absolute humility and absolute obedience to the Northern Song Dynasty for several years. Zhao Kuangyin finally gave Qian Chu the title of King of Wu Yue, who had been abandoned for many years.

Since Guo Wei ascended the throne of Later Zhou, Qian Chu had depressedly lost the title of King of Wu Yue. He had been ruling the Wu Yue Kingdom with the title of Grand Marshal of the Army for more than ten years, and always had some injustice. His wishes over the years were finally fulfilled. Qian Chu also found out that Zhao Kuangyin's attitude towards Wu Yue Kingdom had changed. His years of hard work was finally in vain. No matter how fast Zhao Kuangyin was in the process of unifying the world, Wu Yue Kingdom should be ranked last in Zhao Kuangyin's progress table. Death will definitely happen, but it is a blessing to be able to die later.

In the first month of the fourth year of Kaibao, the Northern Song general Pan Mei led his troops to join forces to heroes and the two states, and soon arrived at Guangzhou. The King of Southern Han Liu Yi led all civil and military officials out of the city to surrender, and the Southern Han Dynasty, which had been separatist in Guangdong and Guangxi for more than 60 years, was destroyed.

At this point, Zhao Kuangyin took eleven years to complete half of his unification of the world. Currently, only four separatist forces remained.

Before attacking the Southern Han Dynasty, Zhao Kuangyin asked Qian Chu to send troops to attack Fuzhou in the Southern Han Dynasty. Although Guangxi was far away from Zhejiang, Qian Chu arranged a long-distance expedition without hesitation. However, when the Wu and Yue army was about to set off, Zhao Kuangyin once again said: Sorry, you are too far away from Guangxi and the road is steep, so don’t send troops, and you will be kind-hearted to take it. In fact, all Zhao Kuangyin wanted was Qian Chu’s attitude. Whether Wu and Yue would send troops to the Southern Han Dynasty would not affect the final result of the war.

In the battle against the Southern Tang Dynasty, Wu Yue Kingdom naturally heard Zhao Kuangyin's call again, and the content was to jointly send troops to attack the Southern Tang Dynasty. Qian Chu knew clearly that this time, the joint troops were not just like before, just an attitude. The Southern Han and Wu Yue Kingdom were not bordered, and the joint troops were just a talk. If the Wu Yue army really wanted to kill to the Southern Han Dynasty, the daylily would have been cold.

The situation in the Southern Tang Dynasty was very different. The Southern Tang ranks first among the military strength of all southern countries. Although the Southern Tang lost Huainan, there were still a group of soldiers who were good at fighting, and their military strength was by no means comparable to the Later Shu and the Southern Han.
