Chapter 1: The Last Metatlin (Part 2)
But Salin quickly reacted, and he widened his eyes and shouted: "Magic! You are a magician!"
His voice was excited and fearful, and the last few words were almost retracted. Salin never thought that a magician would appear in front of him. There had not been a magician in Ceylon City for more than two hundred years, which does not mean that everyone does not know the existence of a magician.
Magicians represent mystery, status, terror, and distantness. Ordinary people have no way to get in touch with magicians. Only nobles, emperors, army, wealthy and other classes can have the honor to know magicians.
Magicians are all very rich people. They live in isolation and possess huge magical power. A magician can destroy a city. Even in front of the emperor, magicians do not have to bow their heads...
In other words, magicians are living legends. They build magic towers and practice in the towers. The secular power cannot be restrained. Even if a war occurs, the army of any force must circle the magic tower. If a nobleman gains the favor of the magician and gets the opportunity to offer to the magician, the status of the nobleman will immediately increase.
Salin's mind became confused. He keenly realized that the appearance of this magician would change his destiny. But he didn't know how to grasp it. Will he ask for more money? Will it make the magician unhappy?
Gold coins! Gold coins! Bread...
"Is one hundred gold coins good? I'll buy you a small house in the city, enough for you to live in." The magician looked at the child with some pity. Salin was thin and could count the number of ribs directly. There was a piece of black green on the ribs, which looked even more pitiful.
Salin was defeated by the number of one hundred gold coins, and he almost immediately agreed. But pain in his ribs suddenly came. He took a breath of air conditioning, frowned, and bent down.
"Oh, let me see." The magician held Salin with one hand and released a magic with the other hand. The blue light shone and enveloped Salin's body.
Salin felt soaked in warm water, the green light penetrated from her skin, and the pain disappeared.
A thought came to Salin's mind, as if it was the temptation of the devil, and it could not be removed.
"I don't want gold coins!" Salin straightened his body and said, "Mr. Magician, please accept me as a student."
Salin didn't know how to salute, so he raised his head and looked straight into the magician's eyes. At this moment, his mood could no longer be described as nervous. What would the magician react? Do you think that he would insult the profession of the magician and kill him?
The magician's black eyes were deep and bright, like obsidian, as if there was an inner texture. He looked at Salin thoughtfully and said, "Do you want to be my student?"
"Yes, I want to learn magic." Salin's voice was firm. Despite his fear, the damage from the ribs was stimulating his heart. No matter how much money the house was sold, what's the use of? He didn't have the same skill to survive. If he encountered a thief, he might not even be able to save his life.
"It's hard to learn magic." The magician stopped Salin from interrupting and continued: "Nine out of ten people can become magic apprentices, but one or two of them may become magicians for a hundred. The power of magic apprentices is not strong, and can only be used as a skill to make a living. If you become my student, you will not be allowed to change careers without my permission."
Salin fell to his knees and said, "I want to be your student." He tried his best to make his words less vulgar and learned to use respectful words.
"Get up." The magician's voice became cold. He said in an unquestionable tone: "Even a magic apprentice cannot bow to others. Remember, if you want to be my student, this is the last time you kneel down in your life."
"Yes, teacher." Salin stood up happily. He knew that the magician had agreed to his request.
"What's your name? How old is it?" The magician's voice softened again.
"My name is Salin Metatratlin, I'm 12 years old." Salin answered respectfully, but his stomach started to rumble in a bad mood.
The magician smiled and said, "You go change your clothes and eat something, I'll wait for you in the living room."
"Yeah." Salin agreed and quickly ran to the second floor. He returned to the room, put on his coat, then went down the stairs, and ran into the kitchen. The half bag of Chen Mi on the stove was still there, so he opened the oil paper bag, grabbed a handful of rice and stuffed it into his mouth.
"You just eat this?" The magician's voice sounded at the door. Salin was startled. He stopped and was embarrassed and didn't know what to say. The magician sighed, took out a piece of jerky and handed it to Salin. Salin's tears fell down directly, and he didn't even stay in his eye socket for a moment.
He wiped the sleeves and did not eat jerky, but said to the magician first: "Teacher, I won't cry in the future, and I won't embarrass you."
The magician looked at the boy crying and swallowing voraciously, without saying anything. In fact, even if he gave him ten thousand gold coins, he might not be able to impress him to accept a student. Just the first time he saw Salin, he felt very unbearable. Salin's eyes were not alive, and it was all about death.
The magician didn't ask Salin to do anything. He took out more jerky and bread and put it in the kitchen. Salin didn't know how these things were made, but he had no doubts. In his heart, the magician was omnipotent.
The magician asked Salin to rest first. He looked at Salin and used a hypnosis technique. Salin's eyes went dark and he fell asleep immediately. When he opened his eyes, he felt hungry again. The magician's voice sounded in his ears: "Look around first, get familiar with the environment, and then come to the living room."
The magical magic sound was sent directly into his ears, neither light nor heavy. Salin sighed, jumped out of bed, his shoes had dried up, he put on his shoes and found that there were more doors in his room. The room also changed, with tables, chairs, and cabinets, and huge dressing mirrors on the cabinets.
The whole room was as cleaned, spotless. The furniture was not new, there were mattresses, quilts and pillows on the bed. I slept so hard that I didn't feel anything. When I opened the door, the corridor was extremely clean. Several rooms were installed and some oil paintings were hung on the walls. Everything seemed to be like when my parents were still alive, Salin had the urge to cry again, but this time, he held it back.
There are eight rooms on the second floor, four large and four small. The room where Salin lives is small, at the end of the corridor. He looked at each room one by one and all four large rooms were converted into study rooms. One of the other three small rooms was a bedroom, and the doors of the other two could not be opened.
What surprised Salin was that the entire second floor had even been repainted, the doors and windows were repaired, and countless mysterious symbols were added on it. The walls seemed to have been repainted, and the ceiling was clean and even a spider could not see it.
The house became very strange, and Salin walked down the stairs uneasily. The main hall on the first floor had already been placed in the furniture and the kitchen was filled with kitchen utensils. Salin didn't go to see the basement, so he came to the living room and opened the door. Although he was mentally prepared, he still opened his mouth wide and looked at the living room that had completely changed in surprise.
There was a huge table in the center of the living room, and there was no material. The rectangular table was filled with utensils that Salin didn't recognize. Various utensils were strangely shaped, and black flames were burning under a crucible. There was only a chair around the table, and several cabinets stood against the wall, and the cabinets were filled with things.
There was nothing Salin knew. He only saw mysterious symbols everywhere, crystal lamps hanging on the ceiling, and the lights were softly sprinkled, but he could not see the light and shadow.
The magician looked up and said gently: "Sarin, you wake up and go get your own food, and then let's talk."
"Teacher, let's talk first, I'm not hungry yet." Salin stood at the table in a proper manner, feeling nervous.
"Okay, then I'll talk first. My name is Jason Statham, a Qinyin Empire native, a level 5 magician. As my student, I can't give you too much guidance because I don't have that much time. I will teach you a reading magic first, which is a level 0 magic. If you can master this magic, I will teach you the laws of meditation. Then you can read magic books by yourself and master magic knowledge. I will not give you any other guidance before you become a level 10 apprentice."
"Level 10 apprentice?" Salin asked a question carefully. He didn't know what a level 10 apprentice is.
"There are 10 levels of magic apprenticeship. In the magic apprenticeship stage, you can only master level 0 magic. Level 0 magic is a magic that can be cast without magic strings. As long as you have enough mental power and corresponding element affinity, it can be. The size of mental power determines your ability to control magic, and element affinity determines how many magic you can release in succession. If one of the two is not qualified, you cannot become a real magician."
"How to advance?"
"Level 1 apprentices can cast two level 0 magic in a row, level 2 apprentices can cast four level 0 magic in a row, and so on, when you can cast twenty level 0 magic in a row, I will guide you how to become a magician. Well, now I will teach you the first level 0 magic." Jason said, chanting a spell with strange syllables. At the same time, his hands cooperated to make a fixed magic gesture.
"If you do this, you can learn words and magic knowledge in the book." Jason recited this spell repeatedly, and Salin followed him and studied over and over again. After three times, Salin could recite this spell word by word, and there was no problem with his gestures.
"Okay, you practice it yourself. After success, I will teach you the rules of meditation. Then you can read the books I prepared for you by yourself. Starting from the first room, don't read the books in this room before you finish reading the books in this room."
"Yes, teacher." Salin bent down and saluted, as if he met a nobleman from the people of Ceylon City.
Jason Magician shook his head, then thought again, "I'd better talk about the issue of etiquette in the future." He did not correct Salin's behavior, waved his hand and signaled Salin to leave.
Salin brought the door and walked to the kitchen with brisk steps. He found the box for storing rice and flour, but he was so hungry that he simply took off the jerky hanging on it and ate it happily with white bread and water.
