Repost the Sino-Japanese War Debate

In order to correct Ding Ruchang's serious mistakes in the Dadonggou Naval Battle of Sino-Japanese War and gather to wipe out the Japanese ships in the Yellow Sea, the good old classmates worked tirelessly and wrote two articles to discuss them, which was very encouraged, so they wrote an essay to reconcile them.

Hao Nianhua first wrote an article "The Battle of the Yellow Sea could have completely wiped out the Japanese Navy", but because Jiang Shangwei and other vests were making trouble in it, "after this article was published, it was criticized and besieged by some vests", which made Hao Nianhua quite angry.

How did it besieged? Take the example of Jiang Shangwei.

1,

Good: "The Beiyang Navy participated in the war at that time, there were 10 main ships, the largest two heavy cruisers Zhenyuan and Dingyuan, with thick armor and large diameter of 13-inch cannons."

Jiang: "Ah???? Definitely, the 'thirteen-inch cannon' is installed? Isn't it 305 mm? How can I convert it to one inch more? Even my own information can be wrong like this, and it is not surprising that the Japanese won... I asked stupidly: Are you reading the information?"

OK: "This is a mistake in other articles. It just means I have read it." (Then do you use it without changing it?)

2,

Good: "The soldiers are not practicing martial arts. According to post-war statistics, the Beiyang Navy's shell hit rate was only 9% of that of the Japanese ship, which was really bad; the launch of torpedoes (the Qing army launched the torpedoes, not the Japanese army), but the depth was not fixed (or it was too nervous and hasty, not that I don't understand)."

Jiang: "During the Battle of Toshima, the Japanese also launched torpedoes, and they calmly put torpedoes on merchant ships. The distance was also appropriate - but there was no explosion... It seems that the Japanese were also 'soldiers'... By the way, the speed of the Japanese ships that sank the merchant ships was the wave speed of the Japanese ships, and the captain was Hirahachiro Togo... It seems that the famous Marshal Togo also did not practice martial arts..."

3,

OK: "According to post-war statistical analysis, the Beiyang Navy's shell hit rate was only 9% of that of the Japanese ship, which was really bad."

Jiang: "Another document of witnesses on the scene:

‘However, although both sides were poor, as the Japanese admitted themselves, they believed that the Qing army was better than the Japanese army. Because except for light cannons below six pounds, the Japanese hit rate was about 12%, while the Qing army was more than 20%. However, in the battle, the Qing army had only three 50-pound cannons of Guang Bing, while the enemy ships had the advantage of being injected like rain.’

The above dialogue is excerpted from http://www.tianya.cn/New/PublicForum/Content.asp?idWriter=1135049&Key=101894903&strItem=no05&idArticle=35604&flag=1

Due to the troubles caused by Jiang Shangwei and other vests, Brother Hao Nianhua took the initiative to make some modifications to the original text and published it again, renamed it "Another talk about the formation and tactics of the Beiyang Navy in the Yellow Sea War". This time, he did not say that "Dingyuan" was equipped with a thirteen-inch cannon, but he wanted to "refute" Jiang Shangwei and other vests, so Jiang and others had to bow and read it.

In order to ensure the correctness of Ding Ruchang's conclusion and the smooth progress of the "Gathering Japanese ships to the Yellow Sea" plan, Hao Nianhua made the following assumptions and made deductions and conclusions based on the following assumptions.

1. Good: "Suppose the effective range of the main gun of the Class A ship is 8 nautical miles, and the effective range of the main gun of the Class B and C ships is 5 nautical miles;"

Jiang: "In fact, the effective range of the 305mm main gun in the township is 7,800 meters, which is 4.21 nautical miles. The owner of the building opened a river and doubled the range out of thin air;

Jiyuan, Zhiyuan, Jingyuan, Jingyuan, Laiyuan's 210mm main gun has an effective range of 8,300 meters, equivalent to 4.48 nautical miles."

(One nautical mile = 1852 meters, one yard = 0.914 meters)

2. Good: "The largest A1, A2 (Zhen, Ding Two), B1, B2, and at most, there are six main guns of C1, C2 (Zhiyuan-class middle ship);"

Jiang: "It's nonsense again. When the bow of the ship is facing the enemy, the main guns can be used as: Ding, Zhen, 305mm main guns, 210mm main guns, Ji, Zhi, Jing, Jing, and five ships each have two, a total of ten. Because the two main guns have a similar range, they can be totaled to 18."

3. Good: "Now, it depends on how much power the Japanese army can fight back?

The Japanese army is 1 nautical mile from the Qing army, and the farthest is 3.162 nautical miles. The weighted hit rate under precise aiming is 0.598. The Japanese main fleet has 6 ships, three large and three small. The main gun of the big one is 10 inches and the main gun of the small one is 8 inches. In 30 minutes, it can hit a total of (30/3+1)*6*0.5*0.598=19.7 rounds, that is, 20 rounds."

Jiang: "This... I'm really speechless... Do you know that the Japanese are equipped with rapid-fire cannons! At such a close distance, you are only willing to let others hit 20 shells in half an hour? What is this called wishful thinking? What is this called "ignorant fearlessness"??"

Since the good Nianhua classmate disdained to look at the details, he naturally couldn't calculate the answer, so Jiang Weizi had to help.

The united fleet is: "Matsushima", "Chionida", "Itsukishima", "Hashima", "Fusan", and "Hairui".

Apart from the three waste 320mm cannons, we don’t count those below 120mm. Let’s see how many shells the Japanese can fire in half an hour.

Hiei: 3 170mm Krupp guns, 6 150mm Krupp guns, and the 170 guns have no test rate of fire. Referring to the 210 guns, it is 1 round/minute, 150 guns, and 1 round/minute, and the nine guns can shoot 9 rounds in total *30 minutes = 270 rounds.

Fusang: 4 main guns of 240mm Krupp, 2 170mm Krupp guns, 4 150mm rapid-fire guns. 240, 170 about 1 round/min, six guns fired 6 rounds*30=180 rounds, 150 speed 5 rounds/min, 5*4 rounds*30=600 rounds.

Three Scenery Ship: Apart from waste cannons, there are 11 Armstrong rapid-fire guns with 120mm40 times caliber Armstrong (the "Songdao" ship has 12 goals), a rate of fire of 6-8 rounds/minute, a discount of 7 rounds/minute. 34 rounds*7 rounds/fold*30 minutes=7140 rounds (terrifying!).

Chiyoda: 10 120mm 40 times caliber Armstrong rapid-fire guns, with performance the same as before. 10*7*30=2100 rounds.

Total of each ship: 270+600+7140+2100=10110 rounds, but this is the theoretical rate of fire. Since a single side fire is launched in the artillery battle, there should actually be about 40% of the firepower vacant (both head and tail can shoot, so it should be included). There are also the following time consumption: aiming time (partially it can be folded into the loading time), waiting for the lifting time (but because both sides do not care about safety and pile the shells on the gun position, this time consumption is relatively small). Since each ship and gun are different, it is difficult to confirm, so give it a 30% discount!

Then 10110*60%*70%=4246.2, about 4,300 shells.

According to the "weighted hit rate under precise aiming, the weighted hit rate is 0.598" given by Hao Nianhua (the actual hit rate is much smaller, the average hit rate of the Japanese ship Dadonggou naval battle is about 10%. Even if the hit rate is slightly higher at close range, it will be about 20% at most), the number of hit shots should be 4246*0.598=2539 rounds.

Two thousand five hundred blasting bombs above 120mm! (This is just the firepower of our team, not counting more rapid-fire cannons in the next trip!)

The Japanese ship's small caliber naval gun has limited killing power, but for the protective cruiser Zhiyuan, Jingyuan (only horizontal dome armor), the prototype armored cruiser Juyuan and Laiyuan (waterline armor), it is enough to cause destruction and sinking effect. As for the fast-moving ship without armor, which is super brave and powerful, it is already a great courage to persist in not escaping under such firepower!

Just looking at our team, the Japanese ship can shoot more than 4,000 shells in half an hour.

But the good old classmate who claimed that "the comments of both of them are exactly what I want. The purpose of this article is to explore a basic tactical plan or combat idea, rather than to examine the details." However, due to his indifference to details and his ignorance of common sense, he assumed that the Japanese ship could only hit me twenty shells!

Now I finally know the answer!

The reason why Ding Ruchang could not win the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was mainly because the owner of the post forced Ding Junmen to withdraw two-thirds of the artillery.

As for the poster's grand plan to gather Japanese ships to kill the Japanese ships in the Yellow Sea, its foothold is nothing more than to prevent Japanese ships from using rapid-fire cannons.
Chapter completed!
