Reposted by Mr. Sa Zhenbing Bing Xin

After reading it, I was filled with emotion. The efforts of seniors to save the country are extremely difficult, how can they be ugly at will

Mr. Jisa Zhenbing

Bing Xin—

Mr. Sa Zhenbing is always the object of my worship. Since I was six or seven years old, I often heard my father say, "Sa Zhenbing is just a model soldier of the Chinese Navy." Since then, I have always paid attention to his words and deeds. Everything I hear and see about him increases my admiration for him. To this day, although there are many people who admired me when I was a child that discourage me and disappoint me, every time I think of him, I retain my confidence in mankind and encourage my courage to live upward.

Most of the good words and deeds about Mr. Sa are recorded below from his father's conversation. - I only roughly calculate the facts of the years and months. When I collect more complete materials on his life in the future, I would like to write a biography for him in detail. - Thank my father here for knowing what kind of impression it should be infused into the minds of young people.

Admiral Sa Zhenbing, whose name is Dingming, is from Minhou, Fujian. He was born in 1860 (?) and entered Fujian Mawei Naval School at the age of 12. He was a second student. He went abroad at the age of 17 or 18 and entered Green-Wich College in the UK. After returning to China, he served as a regular teacher at the Tianjin Guanlun School. At that time, his father was a student in the driving class of Tianjin Naval Academy and has known him since then.

When he was in Guanlun Academy, he used a specially made wooden bed in his bedroom, which was similar to the bed on the boat. His reason was that "soldiers cannot be greedy for comfort, and they are the same on the shore as they are on the sea." He taught the most seriously. For students with good homework, they often rewarded their own goods, such as timetables. Sometimes, when small and expensive items were used up, even the rattan chairs in his house were moved. Outside class, students were often taught to use shovels to dig up the fort on the playground. It was Guanlun Academy in the south and Naval Academy in the north, with a playground. Wu Zhongxiang, the general manager of the school, lived in the Naval Academy. General Manager Wu was a literati and didn't like students to do "coarse things". So when the students were enthusiastically working and shovels were used, Mr. Sa always patrolled the wind on the side of the playground to prepare for the sudden inspection by General Manager Wu.

My father was familiar with Mr. Sa. He was the deputy commander of the Navy and the owner of the Haiqi ship. His father was the deputy owner of the ship.

During the Gengzi Incident, the orthodox leader of the navy, Ye Zugui, stationed in Hairong, was trapped with Dagukou. The torpedo boats, Hailong, Xihai, Qinghai, Hua, etc., had been captured by the coalition forces. They were Haiqi, Haichen, Haichou, Haitian and other ships in the Beiyang Fleet. They were all docked in Miaodao, Shandong. The governor of Shandong Yuan Shikai moved his letter to ask the ships to enter the Yangtze River to avoid the enemy's front. So the ships went south one after another, but Haiqi was still docked. When the Boxer Regiment in Shandong killed the expatriates, Mr. Sa asked all the priests and expatriates in Penglai to get off the ship and welcomed them diligently. After the chaos, they were sent ashore. The American cruiser Oregan was hit by a reef near Miaodao, and Haiqi sailed to rescue him. When the US Congress heard the news, he immediately sent a letter to thank him. In addition to exclaiming, the captain of Aligan also urged Mr. Sa to go south, so Haiqi drove into Jiangyin.

When his ship left and Haiqi was alone, the morale of the army was very shaking. Many soldiers said they went ashore to seek medical treatment and fled in time. In the end, the crowd was in a panic and gathered to petition and wanted to go south to avoid the enemy. There were thousands of noises in the cabin and they could not be stopped. When his father tried his best to persuade everyone, Mr. Sa suddenly took a saber and walked out of the cabin, shouting: "If you want to go south, kill him!" He was always kind and suddenly became angry, and everyone was shocked to part with his eyes. Haiqi was determined to do so. One day afterwards, Mr. Sa quietly handed his father a piece of paper. It was what his family asked in the Luzu Temple in Fuzhou when he was not informed of Haiqi. It said: "There is a sword to open the road of divineness. No demon dares to commit evil. A gentleman and Taoist priest. A villain can do it." The two laughed unceasingly.

The warship where Mr. Sa is located is clean and always the best in the army. He often donates money to repair public property. He often smiles and says to his father: "As the owner of the ship, they always wear gold bracelets for his wife to wear. My gold bracelet is worn on my boat." Once, the ship practiced target shooting, and the gunman accidentally cut the barrel of a side cannon. (The air cannon also loads water in the space-time shell to replenish the amount of fire. The iron hole behind the shell is used, and the gunner misuses the plug, and the shell explodes when it is launched, and the broken shells cut the barrel out.) The gun value is more than 20,000 yuan. Mr. Sa himself donates his monthly salary and compensates in installments. Later, it was heard from Ye Zugui, and it was reported to Yuan Shikai, the governor of Zhili. Yuan immediately sent a payment for compensation, so now there is a ship-side cannon on Haiqi ship that was purchased by Yuan Shikai.

He was on the boat, especially on the practice boats. For example, Weiyuan Kangji Tongji and other ships often taught students to swim, swim, and shoot targets, using this as daily classes and entertainment. He also used students specifically for driving, and did not invite ship owners. (At that time, there were ship owners on other ships to lead the port, and the so-called "curved hoof" in Fujian language means the gang people who regard ships as their homes.) Commander Ye often frowned and said, "Ding Ming is too willing to take risks and loves to use young people!" And for decades at sea, the warship he was in has never been damaged.

He also loves talents as his life, and he cared for the officials and soldiers in every way. When he went ashore, he would use sails on the sampan when there was wind to save his troops. When he went ashore, he would not take the servants on the boat, and borrowed them from his friends on the shore if necessary. He served for decades, such as the deputy minister of the Navy, the chief of the Navy, the governor of Fujian, etc., and never used a relative. When he came to invest, he would give Sichuan funds or the capital for trading. He advised them to go back, saying, "You have not received sea training and cannot occupy the position of naval personnel." Now there is a spring shop in the East China Sea on Liugong Island, which is opened by his relative, and specializes in tobacco, alcohol, soda, etc., and does the business of naval personnel. Only his wife and uncle Chen Jun once wrote a copywriting for the Tongji boat training, because the copywriting was made by literati.

Mr. Sa and his wife, Mrs. Chen, are very close. Once he was ill in Yantai. Mrs. Chen came to see the disease from Weihaiwei and was resigned. People said that he was not humane. Since he was thirty-six years old, his wife had fostered her children and lived in a widowhood for life. People asked him why he did not re-string, and he said: "If there is another woman in the world, I will marry her like my wife."——(Satis Mr. Safujun, the current director of the Ministry of Railways, is Mr. Safujun, and the female son is Chen.)

His personal life was especially simple, and he had never worn a body, nor had he ever worn cotton clothes. He usually always had cloth shoes, socks, wool gowns and jackets. He was extremely thin, and he never had a birthday in his life, nor was he treated by others. Without all hobbies, playing cards is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. When he had to sit down, he used bronze to win or lose.

He lived in a house and always rented a very dilapidated one. He repaired it for the landlord, planted flowers and plants, laid double brick floors, and opened doors and opened houses. The furnishings in the house were also very simple, and the surroundings were blocked. When he was the deputy minister of the Navy, he bought a small house in Xicheng, Beiping. After going south, he gave it to a classmate. During his tenure as the governor of Fujian, he lived in the former Qing Governor's Office. The place was very large. He only left a few offices. The rest of the arrow road was demolished and opened into a street. It is still known as Suwei Road because he is General Suwei.

The word "Suwei" is not worthy of Mr. Sa's test. He is really a very funny and free-spirited person. He likes small banquets in his life, and three or five friends have a simple meal. So when he encounters any group official, he always returns gifts in pieces. He said: "When there are too many guests, it is not easy for the host to socialize carefully. It is better to have a small banquet, but it is better to have a small banquet." When treating, he always checks all the dishes and must be neat and clean. He also likes to invite friends from Western countries. Although the furnishings in the house are simple, they often change their styles. He knows that others like them, and immediately gives them to others. When giving gifts, he also comes to the door to deliver them, and never uses servants.

He wrote very detailed and thoughtful letters, including every letter, with exquisite handwriting, and liked to write poems, and often wrote with his father. He usually advocated that the naval school did not invite Chinese teachers, because the literati was depressed and should not allow young soldiers to be infected with corrupt habits. He said: "I entered the military school since I was twelve years old, but Chinese is enough. The writing is important. The writing is self-study, and I don't care about learning to write a essay of the eight-legged essay." I can also recite one of his seven-character quatrains written on the flat-hand cart, which is: "It's not cold at dawn yet, and the Rongze is just passing by the yellow river bridge. The light chariots on the moon shines and the flow is easy to read together." I think the last two sentences really fully express his clean and extraordinary personality!

I haven't seen him for more than 20 years, and there are still a few things that cannot be erased in my memory: When I was five or six years old, he went to Yantai to inspect and stayed in the naval training camp. One afternoon, my father invited him to the house for dinner. It was agreed that it was seven o'clock. At six or fifty-five, my father took me to the door and waited, saying, "Sa Junmen is always prudent. He often arrives at the master's door a few minutes earlier and comes in at that time. We should not let him wait for a long time." We walked out and saw him standing at the door wearing a green robe with a smile on his face.

He was very gentle and considerate. Once he came to our house to discuss business affairs, and brought out snacks from it. My mother made them by herself. My father accidentally told him. After talking about business affairs, he walked to the door and came back and said with sincerity: "Please thank you, my wife. The snacks today are so delicious."

In my father's living room, there were always few calligraphy and paintings, because he was not a connoisseur, and there were few photos because he didn't have many friends. He moved south and north several times, and there were always photos of Mr. Sa hanging in the living room, and a couplet he wrote: "It's all about being an external matter, but it's not changing the relationship between old friends."

I heard that he lives in Fuzhou now and sells his words for public welfare. It is always his business to release relief in disaster areas, because in the red areas of Fujian Province, only he can pass through the passage without any obstacles. In Xiadu, he used the donations from the navy to set up a model village. The villagers loved him like their parents and built a pavilion for him. During the festival, everyone came to visit him. On the Laba Festival, everyone also cooked some Laba porridge for him and sent it home.

In addition, there are many things about Mr. Sa who have heard from friends, which are extremely precious materials. I am tired at night, so I will not record them anymore. I want to write his biography, so many things may be left to write them later. Here I just want to talk about my thoughts: I saw the Executive Yuan’s order to “clear corruption” a few days ago, which made me realize that there are so many corrupt officials today and that they are good at using public property. Even though the wise are inevitable, it is because this is a very small common thing! What disappoints me the most is that among our friends, some of whom have relationships with the public, take advantage of the public and praise each other, saying that this atmosphere has been developed, and our extremely desolate national family can not bear the exploitation of this small and small size!

I don't want to raise the countless facts of corruption that I have heard and seen. I just want to show a clean and ruthless personality so that those of us who are struggling with corruption will not feel lonely when we look up...
