Chapter 48: The Destined Result(2/2)
Under this scene, Mortson sighed: "England was eliminated. The summer of 2008 announced in advance... ended."
Donn turned off the TV. He didn't want to see Beckham's back, nor did he want to listen to McLaren's speech at the post-match press conference.
Shania looked at him strangely.
"I'm going to sleep." He said that, and turned around and walked upstairs. "Good night, Shania."
"Good night, Uncle Tony." Shania kept watching his back disappear at the stairs, and then she turned her head and looked at the quartz clock on the wall.
It's only less than ten o'clock.
She turned back and turned on the TV, just in time for a post-match interview. Beckham stood in front of the camera, his jersey was soaked in sweat on his chest and was pressed against his body.
He said tiredly: "European Cup qualifiers are not the end of the world. There are so many young and excellent players in England. I believe that we will have a bright future in the South African World Cup..."
"Can you be eliminated from the European Cup qualifiers give you peace of mind to play for Nottingham Forest?" a reporter asked in a vague manner.
Beckham shook his head: "I will not announce my withdrawal from England. I said before that I am ready to play for England unless England no longer needs me."
After saying this, Beckham refused to answer other questions and walked out of the interview area with his head down.
Shania saw McLaren appearing on the screen, and she turned off the TV, walked upstairs to prepare for rest.
