Chapter Eleven Meeting

Unexpectedly, the Persian envoys did not ask the Greek mercenaries to surrender, but proposed a truce between the two armies. Of course, the mercenaries who were already in trouble were unable to seek it. After some negotiations, the two sides reached a truce agreement, and the Persians wanted to provide supplies to the Greeks. This was a blessing for the mercenaries, because their food storage had bottomed out, and they were originally planning to burn, kill and loot the villages along the way.

Although there was a truce agreement, Clierkus did not relax his vigilance: Persian envoy led the way forward, while Clierkus ordered the entire army to form a three-way column to march in four rows of combat formations. Along the way, he encountered three or four-meter-wide trenches blocking the road, and the ditch was filled with sewage, and the soldiers had to cut down trees to build wooden bridges. Davers, who were located in the baggage battalion of the rear guard, ended up relaxing.

"Look, that's Clearcus!" As Oliver's fingers turned, Davers saw a tall middle-aged man, naked with his upper body, covered in bronze-colored muscles, and several conspicuous scars. He was carrying a newly cut tree trunk with the soldiers. When he walked to the ditch, he took the lead in jumping out of the ditch without hesitation, and did not care about the sludge splashing, and immediately began to repair the newly broken wooden bridge.

"Yes, this is Clearcus! And where is our Menon?!" Martonis said in a sigh, meaningful way.

Although the conflict between Menon and Clearkus also caused armed fighting due to conflicts. However, the soldiers were not fools, and they saw what the leaders did. Who is trustworthy? Who is capable? They are very clear in their hearts. There are more than a dozen mercenary leaders, so why are they always mainly Klierkus? It’s not unreasonable.

This is the way to command the army! Davers kept watching Clearcus's performance and said to himself in his heart.

As dusk approached, the Greeks arrived at their destination. Persian envoys not only prepared comfortable accommodation for the villages placed by Greek mercenaries, but also provided abundant food: fruit wine, drinks, bread, brown dates...

The soldiers couldn't help but cheer.

For a moment, Davers was also confused: Did the Persians really be afraid of being beaten by the heavy Greek infantry and really want to quit?

Just as he and his companions tasted the food and were sure there was no problem, and when they were about to eat and drink, Antonios came: "Davos, Menon wants to see you!"

"Now?!" Davers swallowed.

"Now!" Antonios nodded.

"Don't worry, nothing happened! Menon just heard that Davers helped us solve several problems. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see him, and maybe there would be a reward!" Seeing everyone's concern, Antonios made a guarantee.

Antonios brought Davers to a large house in the middle of the village and said to the guards at the door: "Menon wants to see Davers, he has come."

The guard looked at Davers curiously, and then said, "Menon is now in need. Please wait."

After a while, there was no movement inside. Davers still spoke to Antonios calmly. Antonios was anxious: "I haven't finished anything yet, I'll go in and urge me!" After that, he was about to break in, but was stopped by the guards: "Antonios, do you want me to be scolded!"

Antonios stared at him, and the guard finally surrendered: "I'll go and see you again." After that, he turned around and ran into the house.

After a while, he came out: "Get in, Menon is waiting." He said, but his eyes dared not meet Antonios.

Davers was about to go in, Antonios pressed his shoulder and reminded him: "Menon sometimes has a bad temper. If he says something, don't argue with him, just listen."

Davers smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm not a child."

Antonios nodded. The conversation along the way made him deepen his understanding of Davers: this young man has a steady attitude far beyond his peers. Seeing Davers enter the house, Antonios recalled: No, he is not a child, who is a child? Menon?

He smiled helplessly, and it seemed that this young man was not easy to mess with. He turned around and angry at the guard and said, "Potaks, you deliberately left us here."

"Oh, Antonios, you understand. Who would do such boring things except Menon?"

"snort!"

"That young man is the 'godsman' of Hades you mentioned?! I think he also understands what's going on, and he just smiled at me..."

…………………………

Of course Davers understood what was going on: I saw it a lot in the organization in my previous life. Isn’t it just a warning? The more people adopt this method, the more they have no confidence in their own control. Is Menon such a person?

Davers curled his lips and walked through the courtyard to the main house.

"Chief Menon, soldier Davers is ordered to come!"

"Come in." A sharp and crisp sound came from the room.

Davers strode into the house, and there was a man sitting in the middle of the living room, wearing a shiny breastplate, but it seemed that he did not add more majesty to him, because if his fair face shaved his beard, he would definitely be considered as beautiful.

Davers couldn't help but think of some bad rumors about Menon, such as: the ambiguous story between him and Aliros, aide-deputy Cyrus. He suddenly felt a little nervous: Could this person be to me?

Menon was also looking at Davers: his strong body, average height, average appearance, and a slightly tender face without even a beard, but standing there gives people a unique temperament.

"Well... I heard you are a 'god favor', so I want to ask, is it true that the Persians truce with us this time? Or do you have any other thoughts?" Menon asked casually.

"Sorry, leader. I don't know!" Davers answered without hesitation.

Davers's direct answer made Menon a little stunned. Finally, a smile appeared on the corner of his mouth: "Then tell me, can we go home safely this time?"

"I don't know." Davers' answer was still straightforward.

"Bastard!" Menon was furious and slapped the chair hard: "Didn't you say in the whole camp that you have an oracle? Didn't you tell others that you know everything? Now you don't talk! You liar!"

Davers raised his eyebrows: "Captain Menon, I am very lucky to survive the battlefield, but I have never claimed that I am a god-loving person. This can be proved by my teammates. I don't care about what others think and say, and I don't care about it.

As for the oracle, I have never said it. It’s just that when I chat with my teammates, I’m lucky enough to say it. Whether you can go home safely is something you have to worry about. We soldiers just want to get some comfort and encouragement through talking and chatting during the battle.”

After hearing this, Meinon's first reaction was that this guy was good at eloquence and couldn't catch his handle to fight back. His calm gaze that looked at Meinon face to face made Meinon feel the courage of the other party.

Menon was a little irritated and was stunned for a while before he waved his hand and said, "I will investigate what you said. In short, don't randomly guess what Persians are doing, as this will affect the morale of the soldiers."

Davers immediately lowered his head and said obediently: "Yes!"

Menon felt a little better, and reached out to grab a handful of Dracma and said, "No matter what, you have come up with an idea to help our army this time. This is the reward I - the mercenary leader Menon. Remember, if you have any good ideas next time, just tell me directly, I will give you a reward!"

Davers pretended to be happy and reached out to take it: "Thank you, leader!"
