Chapter 1 The First Council of the Senate (1)

At night, the candles in the Senate of Amendorala were brightly lit.

Davers, Cornerus, the five famous citizens who had stood on the stage with Cornerus, including Sesta, Adrianques, and the company captains led by Capps and Antonios. Davers even insisted on calling Herps, Mercis, Ledes, Yassites and the captains of each division, and dozens of people gathered together to discuss the reconstruction of Amendora.

As the only lifelong consul, Davers naturally became the chief senator of the Senate, sitting in the middle of the circular chamber: "Citizens, Amendorala's reconstruction work has a lot of affairs and time is tight. We must first complete the election of the Senate members."

Davers said solemnly: "The Senate, as an important power institution of the city-state of Amendorala, is composed of the most experienced and wise elites among the city-state citizens. It makes suggestions and advice to the consuls upwards, and elects candidates for the consuls for approval, and supervises the operation of the city-state downwards, from reviewing finance to the moral customs of citizens, and has the power to propose bills. The senior officials of the city-state are also elected from the Senate members, so the senate must also have certain administrative management capabilities, which is lacking for you, who were once mercenaries. Fortunately, the population of Amendorala is not large. You must learn seriously from practice and humbly ask for advice from respected citizens like Cornerus and others..."

A young man in his twenties was teaching in front of him, and a group of men in his thirties and forties nodded seriously behind him. This situation did not make Cornerus funny. What surprised him was: This young man who was said to have come from a remote village in Thessali and had never lived in the city was so familiar with the political structure of the Amendolar city state. Is it really the so-called Hades's divine revelation?!

In a trance, he intentionally or unintentionally ignored Davers' partially tampered with the functions of the Senate.

"Now I propose six people, Cornerus, Terry Toddmos, Stromboris, Scomblas and Raphayas as the senate."

Except for Cornerus who was a senator before, the other five were not. Davers rewarded the efforts they had put in place for the mercenaries and themselves, and at the same time fulfilled their promises. Except Cornerus, the other five people couldn't help but show joy.

"Agree!" The team officials in the venue raised their hands. They were not completely blindly following Davers, but also out of guilt: they had to compensate them if they occupied other people's land and seized their rights.

"Cesta, Adrianques, and Dracos, as the leader of the mercenary, should enter the Senate." Davers continued.

"Agree!" Not only were the team officials raising their hands to express their opinions, but the newly promoted veterans also began to perform their duties.

At this time, Sesta whispered a few words to Adrianx, stood up, walked to the center of the venue, and said loudly: "Adrianx, Dracos entrusted me to express my gratitude to everyone here, especially the Consul! We came to Great Greece, and we only wanted to make some money and make a living, but we didn't expect to become citizens of Amendorala, and we didn't expect to enter the Senate! These are the kindness given to us by the Consul and everyone here. We cannot repay us and will contribute all our strength to Amendorala!"

"Wow" applause sounded, and the former mercenary officers applauded vigorously. Davers watched Sesta return to his seat and had a new impression of the mercenary leader who had only been in contact with a few times.

"Feliceus, Antonios, Cappus, Amintas, Alexis, Hilos, Hironimus, Agarcia, Epitians, Tspit, Alpunes, and Ledes, and Melsis and Helps, the heads of their respective departments, I recommend them to be the senate." Davers continued.

"Agree!!" This time the voice of agreement became louder.

Davers' eyes swept over the familiar faces such as Matonis, Olivers, Yassites, Giorgris, and Martius sitting in the back row, and said with a calm expression: "As for all the team leaders and other personnel, I do not plan to recommend you to the Senate for the time being."

As soon as the words were finished, someone sighed in the back row, but no one dared to question Davers's words.

Davers' expression remained unchanged and continued to explain: "Because most of you are still young (when saying this, Davers obviously did not count himself, and others took it for granted). A few months ago, they were still soldiers, lacking experience in managing the city-state and handling political affairs, but don't be discouraged, as long as you actively participate in the city-state affairs and work hard to improve yourself. I have said before that the Senate is always open to the outstanding citizens of the city-state!"

Davers' words of encouragement made the team leader feel energetic again.

Davers then said to the newly promoted senators of the Senate: "Although the Senate is not paid, he has a noble status in the city-state. I hope you can prove with your performance that you deserve this noble position. According to what I discussed with Cornerus before, once I entered the Senate, I will be a senator for life (this is the benefit that Davers gave to Cornerus and others, and it is actually what Davers expected). But I don't want it to be exactly this. I will discuss with you some regulations on the Senate's senate. Anyone who is unable to perform this position or violates the laws of the city-state should consciously withdraw from the Senate or remove him from the Senate."

When everyone heard this, they felt a sudden heart.

"I think the election of the Senate's elders is over here. Cornerus, do you have anything to add?" Davers asked his ruling adjutant politely.

As the only former Senate in this venue, Cornerus had never had the opportunity to speak because of Davers' strength. Now he felt it was necessary to give these novices a good talk: "Everyone, first of all, I want everyone to know that not only the Senate's veterans are not paid, but other administrative positions in Amendolar are not even paid by Opol. It is the honor of every citizen to be able to serve the city-state!..." Cornerus took the opportunity to educate these new citizens of Amendolar first, and then reminded Davers: "There are 100 quotas for the senate in Amendolar, which is far from enough now-"

"If you don't have enough, just leave it idle first, and if there is a suitable candidate, then make up for it!" Davers interrupted him disapprovingly. He would not be bound by the traditional system of Amendorala, nor would he want to listen to Cornerus' preaching on his seniority. At the same time, he believed that hastily replenished the number of senators, which would only reduce the quality and ability of the senators. Moreover, more than 20 senators in the senators were enough for the population of Amendorala, which had only nearly 5,000.

Cornerus opened his mouth and did not persuade him again.

"What administrative positions do Amendorala have now?" Davers continued to ask him.

"City Administrator, he is responsible for assisting the consul in managing city-state affairs, maintaining urban order, and in charge of litigation. It has patrols, fire brigades, and prison departments. The position is changed every year. The Senate—" Cornerus looked at Davers, and Davers was also staring at him. He hesitated for a moment and changed his words: "The Senate will propose the candidate and the consul will...be the final decision..."
