13. Refugees in the Yellow Sea
What is the most convenient way for Hong Dashou to take back to Tieshan, carrying a hundred kilograms of Ruyi Tianbao Pills?
Referring to the mountainous and hilly natural environment of Badao in North Korea, and the fact that Badao is surrounded by the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, it seems that the best way to return to Iron Mountain from Hanyang is to take a boat along the Han River, enter the Yellow Sea, and go straight to the important border town of Uiju.
Then get off the boat in Uiju and walk a few dozen miles south to get back to Iron Mountain. You don’t even need to walk the whole way, as long as you exit the Han River and change boats.
At this time, most of the roads in North Korea were so-called rammed earth roads. Although the post roads connecting the Eighth Routes existed, the road conditions were, alas, really beyond praise.
It’s exactly the same as Hong Dashou’s previous understanding. Even the official road near Hanyang is no different from the dirt road in the countryside. Now it’s snowing again, and there are still many people walking. The snow is trampled before there is much left.
Dissolved in the sludge.
When you walk on this kind of road with ordinary straw sandals, one kick will cover your ankles. Within a few steps, the straw sandals on your feet will be so damaged that you can no longer wear them. Even boots with thick wooden soles are not suitable for wearing here.
It is also difficult to walk on the planting road.
So should Hong Dashou take a boat? Regardless of the Sichuan capital that may exceed one tael for both people and goods, what if it is only about convenience and a smooth journey?
Hong Dashou definitely chose to take the land route!
First, it is winter now, and the rolling north wind blowing from the Siberian Plateau has seriously affected the navigation of ships traveling north from Hanyang. Even the vast majority of shippers will not go north during this season. The wind is too strong, and they are afraid of
The boat capsized and all the people died in the Yellow Sea.
Second, the road conditions are extremely good. Someone asked me, before I said that the post road on the Eighth Route of North Korea was so bad that it could not even be called a road. Why do I say that the road conditions are extremely good now?
The reason is very simple. Roads are divided into good roads and bad roads. The only "highway" in North Korea happens to be from Hanyang to Uiju, which is exactly the same as Hong Daesou's route home.
This road is the Tribute Avenue for the North Korean mission from Hanyang to China. It is also the road that the Chinese mission needs to pass when the Chinese father comes to consecrate North Korea.
There is a reason why it is called "Highway". According to the records in "Yan Xing Lu", a huge envoy with more than 300 people and 200 packhorses dragging tributes and property, at its peak, traveled one day
It can walk one hundred and thirty miles, and ordinary people can walk seventy miles. [Note 1]
At a constant speed of 35 kilometers per day and at a high speed of 65 kilometers per day, it is good enough that a bloated envoy with hundreds of people and horses can travel so fast without using any modern means of transportation.
Naturally, the reason why we can go so fast is because this is almost the only road in North Korea that is seriously maintained and managed with care.
Hong Dashou was not afraid of getting lost at all, because there was only one good road, and he could reach Iron Mountain if he followed it. And because there were so many envoys from North Korea to China, many large and small market towns were formed along the way, which was extremely
Convenient for accommodation and travel.
There is a joking saying that a qualified North Korean diplomat in the 18th and 19th centuries was either in China or on the way to China.
Anyway, there are at least four groups of envoys traveling on this road a year (Zhengdan, the emperor's birthday, the queen's birthday, the queen mother's birthday), and sometimes there may be seven or eight groups of people, Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, the emperor's wedding, etc.
They are all days for sending envoys.
So North Korea has always been called "China's filial son". In fact, he is the only country like him that is either paying tribute or on the way to pay tribute. Other countries can't say that there are thousands of mountains and rivers, but they don't have him.
Run hard.
Unfortunately, Hong Dashou was not lucky enough to witness the grand scene of the envoy, because this year's He Zhengdan envoy had already set off, and the next wave of envoys was still being prepared, which happened to be the gap between the two groups.
But the road is still crowded. After all, this is a Tongtian Avenue. On both sides of the road are pedestrians carrying packages or leading cattle and horses. They are walking in a hurry, and there are many people returning, but no one is blocking the road, and there are no people.
Stealing the road or something.
Hong Dashou's old habit recurred again. Since the business travelers on the road could not see anything, Hong Dashou began to observe the villages, markets and towns along the way, as well as the conditions of farmland and water conservancy.
At first, the area around Hanyang City was densely populated, with scholars and common people gathering in droves. However, after walking for only half a day, except for a few market towns, most of the villages began to look dilapidated and dirty.
Due to the continuous drought in the last years of King Jeongjong, the situation in northern Korea was very bad. Even Hanyang Prefecture and Gyeonggi Province, where the king of the country was located, were also struggling under natural disasters.
It’s not that farmers are unwilling to build water conservancy facilities. Hong Dashou could see many ditches and several waterwheels along the way. However, in addition to being close to rivers, places with relatively convenient water collection also looked like farming, and many places were obviously abandoned.
.
There are also many beggars and homeless people in the villages and towns along the street, but not many people who sell their children and girls. Most of them can be digested locally, and the villagers are very happy to expand their team of slaves.
Hong Dashou did not sell Tianbao Pills along the way because the broken copper coins were too heavy. An ordinary Chang Ping Tongbao weighed more than four grams, which would make Hong Dashou unable to carry it.
It's better to go back to your hometown and deal with it directly. You can make two or three times the money by taking it to Tieshan County and selling it directly to the Kampo pharmacy. It's relatively easy.
Just as I was thinking about it, there was a group of people in a circle in front of the road, chattering there.
Hong Dashou was not a person who liked to join in the fun before. When the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law quarreled, he would not watch it with interest at all. Unless it was a battle between human brains and dog brains, then Hong Dashou might even secretly cheer for both parties in his heart.
Glancing through the gap in the crowd, Hong Dashou felt some inexplicable nausea and other emotions. He turned out to be a corpse with a purple face, a skinny body, the corners of his mouth and eyes were all broken, his abdomen was sunken, and his eyes were wide open.
The onlookers pointed and pointed to the general idea that there was almost no harvest in the autumn. It had only been three months and people were already dying of hunger on the road, making life difficult.
[Note 1]: The roads for North Korea to pay tribute to China are constantly changing. There are more than five recorded routes in the Ming Dynasty alone. I will not summarize them here, because Zhuyu has already been sorted out by some big guys.
The tribute route of the Qing Dynasty is very strange, and the records in Korea are very detailed. Even the name of the pavilion, the wine used, and the food eaten at each station are recorded. In China, that is, the section from Yiju to Beijing
The site can’t explain it clearly!
Neither China nor North Korea can tell exactly how many stations there are from Uiju to Beijing. There are also 12 stations, 13 stations, 16 stations, etc. There is no consensus.
