Chapter 624: I want to hear(2/2)

This film festival Zhang Yimou once again defeated the Cannes Palme d'Or with "Shake, Shake, Shake to Grandma's Bridge", and had to win a technical award.

The failure of "Shake, Shake to Grandma's Bridge" is not unexpected. At this stage, Zhang Yimou is in the swing of transformation, and even he himself cannot find his own narrative style and artistic expression.

However, the greater reason for the failure of "Shake, Shake to Grandma's Bridge" is the style of this year's Cannes.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of film art, and Shana holds a special forum on the 100th anniversary.

On this forum, Danish director Las von Tyre, Soren Kragg Jagbson, Christian

Levo and Thomas Winterberg jointly initiated the Dougma 95 Declaration.

The so-called "Dogma 95 Declaration" includes:

All shooting must be carried out in real scenes, and no plug-ins or sets must be added:

The production of sound and image must not be separated;

Must be handheld photography:

The video must be colorful and special lights are prohibited;

All optical effects and filters shall not be used;

The original intention of the directors is to oppose Hollywood's tech supremacy, but the manifesto proposed is somewhat anti-intellectual.

Dougma 95 Declaration did not have much influence in the future film industry, but it did affect 1995

At the Xiana Film Festival in 2019, almost all the important awards of this film festival were captured by European art films.

European filmmakers seemed to have won a major victory, but they didn't know that it was just adding another shovel of soil to their graves.

The next morning, Lin Chaoyang received a call from Li Tuo and rushed to the hospital again.

The day after he left, Zhang Nuanxin fell into a coma in the dim morning light, and then she had a high fever and persisted for two days.

I suddenly woke up for a while yesterday evening, and said a few words to Li Tuo and his daughter, but then I disappeared.

Zhang Nuanxin’s funeral was not clichéd, and her friends planned a farewell ceremony for her, surrounded by flowers.

After attending Zhang Nuanxin's farewell ceremony, Lin Chaoyang was in a heavy mood, especially when he saw Li Tuo's distraught appearance.

I feel even more unbearable.

"When you have time, go to your house to sit."

There were too many people at the farewell ceremony, and Lin Chaoyang was not inconvenient to say too much. Li Tuo nodded heavily when he heard this.

A few days later, Zhang Yimou appeared in Xiaoliubukou Hutong, and his mood was also a little depressed.

"Shake, Shake, Shake to Grandma's Bridge" failed to hit the Palme d'Or, which was a bit of a big blow to Zhang Yimou. This blow came from the defeat itself, but also from unanimous criticism from domestic media.

Wenhui Po believes that the character creation of "Shake" failed, and Mr. Tang (played by Li Baotian) lacked Du Yuesheng's historical heaviness and behaved as naive as a nouveau riche.

Xiao Jinbao, played by Gong Li, has a vulgar behavior and a stiff emotional line. From Qiu Ju's tenacity to Xiao Jinbao's exaggeration, Gong Li's acting skills are dragged down by the director.

Yanjing Youth Daily criticized the plot design of the film as a collage of two movies, which made the audience unable to immerse themselves in the plot.

"Southern Weekend" even published a major special article "Zhang Yimou's Waterloo", saying that the failure of "Shake" marks the "collective aphasia of the fifth generation of directors."

And radical assertion: "When Zhang Yimou began to imitate Wong Kar-wai's lens language, he had lost the author's movie soul."

Hong Kong's "Movie Biweekly" describes its creative crisis as "shaking art collapse", "Xinmin Evening News"

With the title "Swaying toward a commercialized shipwreck", when the award results were not released a week ago, Zhang Yimou was regarded by the media as "the leading figure of the fifth generation of China's directors" and "just one step away from the film master."

With such a big contrast between the front and back, even Lin Chaoyang, a bystander, could not help but feel a little cold, and even more so on Zhang Yimou, who is the person involved.

The sudden huge negative public opinion made Zhang Yimou at a loss. After returning to China for two days, he refused all news interviews.

Stayed at home for a few days.

"Why are you thinking about coming to me today?" Lin Chaoyang asked.

Zhang Yimou's eyes were dull and he opened his mouth dryly, "Didn't you call a few days ago and say that the script of "Opium War" was written?"

Lin Chaoyang smiled, "As long, then you can read the script first."

After staying in the United States for almost two months, Lin Chaoyang did not do anything serious. He finished writing the script of "Opium War" and took the script from Lin Chaoyang. Zhang Yimou's dim eyes ignited a little bit of enthusiasm. Lin Chaoyang had never missed writing scripts for movies in his early years.

Amid the media's criticism these days, the failure of the script of "Shake" has been very loud, which makes Zhang Yimou seriously doubt his current aesthetic ability of the script.

Let me see how Teacher Chaoyang wrote "The Opium War"!

Later generations Xie Jin organized the compilation of "Opium War", using military writer Zhu Sujin, professor Ni Zhen, playwright Zong Fuxian and Qing Dynasty theme writer Mai Tianshu.

It took nearly half a year to release the script several times.

The story basically follows historical facts. During the Daoguang period, the British opium trade posed a serious threat to the Qing court. Daoguang appointed the governor of Huguang, Lin Zexu, to Guangdong to ban smoking.

However, the opium trade situation is complicated, and corrupt officials are in a state of unison with British businessmen. Lin Zexu's ban on smoking faces many difficulties.

On the one hand, Yilu, the British business director in China, asked British merchants to cooperate with the ban on smoking and hand over opium to ease the conflict between Lin Zexu and British merchants, but on the other hand, he planned a bigger conspiracy.

On June 3, 1839, Lin Zexu was commanding the smoke of gunpowder at Humen Beach, and the people applauded.

Then the British declared war on China, and the British Navy was well-equipped and went straight to Tanggu from the mouth of the Pearl River.

Daoguang was weak and incompetent, and blamed Lin Zexu for angering foreigners, removed him and sent Zhili Governor Qi Shan to reconcile with the British side.

The British side proposed to cede land and pay compensation. Daoguang could not bear to cede land, so he ordered the navy to fight. Guan Tianpei and others led their troops to fight fiercely with the British army at the Humen Fort, but they finally lost their weapons because they were backward. All the officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country.

The British and Qing government signed the Treaty of Nanjing in 1842, and Xiangjiang became a British colony since then, and Lin Zexu was exiled to XJ.

To be honest, the script of this version of "Opium War" is a top-notch work. If it is performed with the author's movie, Xie Jin's performance in this movie may be even better.

But unfortunately, the significance of "Opium War" is far more than that of a movie. The work I was assigned to reflect too many things and too many things I want to think about for the audience.

The theme comes first, philosophy is greater than the imbalance of stories, literary dramas and martial arts, which leads to the entire movie losing its grand narrative pattern and losing its supposedly grand atmosphere.

Before there are failure cases, Lin Chaoyang naturally needs to learn from his lessons.

His version of the script still uses Lin Zexu as the highlight. He is the beginning and ending, but the difference is that Lin Chaoyang does not try to portray the inner complexity of the character Lin Zexu and the pros and cons of the politicians.

Instead, we constantly drive the characters with events, thus showing the entire era background and the powerlessness of the individual in the face of general trend and destiny.

In addition, Lin Chaoyang also deleted controversial areas in the original script such as the detailed portrayal of the British powers and the reinterpretation of the character Qishan, and instead focused on the portrayal of the corruption of the Qing court and the spirit of resistance of the Chinese people.

He wrote several roles such as Gu Saner, the tax collector Wu Xiuqing, and the coachman Erkui. He didn't have many roles, but he was very outstanding. At the same time, he also improved the role of the war scene.

The overall style of the script has enhanced viewability on the basis of respecting historical facts, and has also improved the pattern and historical position of the original script.

Zhang Yimou finished reading the script without realizing it and sat there blankly for a while.

It was not until Lin Chaoyang turned on the light and the light in the room was bright that he realized that it was already dark.

"What do you think? Is there any place that needs to be changed?" Lin Chaoyang asked him.

Zhang Yimou's brows were as frown as the ravines of the old Qin land. He was not dissatisfied with the script, but was considering how to summarize his feelings about the script.

"Okay, very smooth. On the basis of respecting history, the entire process of the Opium War was restored, and it was not a bad read.

Instead, they will be infected by the sadness and resistance spirit in it."

After Zhang Yimou said these words, Lin Chaoyang asked with a smile: "There are no shortcomings?"

Zhang Yimou hesitated for a moment before saying, "The plot point seems a bit too simple, and the portrayal and motivation for historical figures do not seem to be profound enough, but it is lost - profound."

At the end of the day, a hint of self-deprecation suddenly flashed in Zhang Yimou's heart. Aren't these words all the media commented on "Shake and Shake"?

He looked at Lin Chaoyang with some embarrassment and explained a few words, but saw Lin Chaoyang laughing indifferently.

"If any big-produced movie is to be profound, you must be prepared to lose money.

Movies are popular art, so you should like to hear them!"
