Chapter 170 The Sorrow of Yulin

There is Shanwaifang to the south of Luoyang. The Shahe River runs through the southern foot of the Waifang Mountains. This mountain is adjacent to the Funiu Mountains.

Luoyang Shanglinyuan has the same eight water systems, but compared with Changan Shanglin, it is a bit undeserved.

The Wei River is the largest tributary of the Yellow River, running through Chang'an, Luoyang from east to west. The tributaries of the Wei River are divided into Jing and Feng rivers and belong to the Luoyang Shanglin water system.

The other rivers in the Eight Rivers around Chang'an mostly leave the Qinling Mountains and eventually merge into the Yellow River. On the Luoyang Shanglinyuan side, there are mostly tributaries of the river system such as the Shahe River, Fenhe River, and Hanjiang River.

The valley area between the northern foot of Waifang Mountain and Xiong'er Mountain is said to be a valley, but for more than ten miles horizontally it is like a plain.

When Liu Cang and his three people walked here, they could see fertile orchards. Looking into the distance, the foothills were crisscrossed and white clouds were floating in the sky. It was a landscape like a foreign country.

The road is winding but regular, and occasionally you can see some villagers herding cattle and preparing land in the fields.

The villagers didn't show any surprise when they saw Liu Cang and the others. It seemed that they were familiar with Mu Qi's eunuch attire. Most of the villagers looked at the three men from a distance for a moment and then settled on whatever they were supposed to do.

Mu Qi explained to Liu Cang that there was a village at the foot of Xiong'er Mountain to the west and Waifang Mountain to the south. There were thousands of households in each village, and they had been farming, hunting and reproducing here for generations.

Each of the two villages is responsible for taking care of the two mountains. If you want to hunt in the two mountains, you can mobilize hunters from the two villages.

Shanglinyuan is Liu Hong's private property, and all the villages therein are looked after by Liu Hong. These villagers do not need to pay miscellaneous taxes.

However, in addition to accepting recruitment and hunting at any time, there is a military camp between the two villages, with more than 2,000 troops stationed there, and all the army's supplies and food are supplied by the two villages.

"What a great place for a faction to hide its troops." Following Mu Qi's introduction, Liu Cang muttered softly as he looked around and saw a place with mud and stone walls and a Han army flag.

There were eight such military camps in Shanglin Garden, and Liu Cang vaguely understood that in the future Liu Hong would establish the Eighth School of Xiyuan, and the soldiers would probably come from here.

Luoyang Shanglinyuan has a standing army of about 20,000 troops. In addition, more than 30 Orion villages can recruit war-ready troops at any time.

These can be said to be Liu Hong's private soldiers. Looking at this alone, the Emperor of the Han Dynasty was so coercive that he did not simply rely on the so-called imperial power.

The Han army relies on the imperial army, the border army, the local army, etc., but if necessary, His Majesty the Emperor may pull out a hundred thousand capable troops at any time. I wonder if you are afraid.

Shanglin Garden is not just a place for fun, it is also the private arsenal of the Han emperor, which is a pity.

"Alas, it's a place where troops are hidden, isn't it? What a pity." Mu Qi beside Liu Cang sighed. When Liu Cang looked at him, Mu Qi's expression changed slightly and he hurriedly stopped talking and looked elsewhere.

"What's a pity?" Liu Cang asked, ignoring Mu Qi's cover-up.

"My lord, please forgive me, but I just lost my words for a moment." Mu Qi seemed to have panic on his face, but his eyes seemed to be filled with desire to speak.

"Are you from Shanglinyuan?" Liu Cang asked again.

"I'm not a commoner in Shanglin. I'm originally from the Qinling Mountains. The Shanglin Garden over there has long been abandoned." Mu Qi shook his head, looking decadent and proud. His expression was richer than usual.

"What did you say was a pity just now? I don't know much about Shanglinyuan. There are no outsiders here, but it doesn't matter." Liu Cang asked again.

Liu Cang asked, but Mu Qi seemed to hesitate. The three of them turned onto a southbound road again. Liu Cang looked directly at them, and Mu Qi muttered.

"The Forest of Han Dynasty was so glorious, but unfortunately it has fallen apart now. The Yulin of Han Dynasty.

Alas~~" Mu Qi shook his head softly, peeked at Liu Cang, and saw that Liu Cang didn't mean to blame him at all, and his figure was relaxed, so he whispered again.

"The Shanglin Gongfu has been moved. It was originally able to provide military pay for the Yulin Cavalry, but now it only has the ability to make ritual bronzes."

"The construction of Shanglin Temple has been eliminated, the original canals at the foot of Funiu Mountain have been sealed, and the blast furnaces have been destroyed. The soldiers stationed in Shanglin lack sophisticated armors and weapons and cannot fight on the battlefield. They are almost the same as the hunters in that village."

"This village in Shanglin Garden was originally established by the families of those who died in the war against foreign enemies. For many years, no new blood has entered. Now these Shanglin children really want to move out."

Mu Qi rambled on, but when he saw Liu Cang frowning, he couldn't help but stop talking: "Sir, I just lamented that I went to Lin Glorious earlier, and had no other meaning. If I said too much, please forgive me."

"It doesn't matter." Liu Cang waved his hand. Although Mu Qi was cautious, the pride in his eyes could not be faked.

This man was born in Shanglin in the Western Han Dynasty. He probably heard his elders boast about the glory of his ancestors when he was young. Some of his feelings are also human.

Yu Linqi. In the previous life, many people talked about the Yu Lin Army and thought it was some imperial palace forbidden army. However, they did not know that the origin of the great Han Yu Lin was actually the royal hunting ground, in the Shanglin.

Now Liu Hong of the Shanglinyuan Military Camp is afraid that he wants to create something like the Eighth Battalion of Xiyuan, but they should have their own name - Yulin Cavalry.

The original name of Dahan Yulin was ‘Jianzhang Yingqi’, and later it was renamed Yulin. I think there is no need to explain it here.

In later generations, "Yulin" was explained in a fancy way, but from Liu Cang's point of view, it probably didn't have much profound meaning, that is, it was just "emperor's wings, born in Shanglin".

There are full-time workshops that produce and sell porcelain crafts to provide them with military pay.

There are dedicated arsenals to build armors and weapons for them.

There was fertile land for them to graze war horses and raise livestock.

I have the pride of my ancestors and a worry-free living environment for my family.

This is probably a one-sided display of the Han Yulin Cavalry. As for the combat power of the Yulin Cavalry? This thing is only a matter of opinion.

Shanglinyuan is a very powerful place, and the Shanglinyuan Order is also a very powerful official position. Of course, originally, Liu Cang's position has been severely reduced.

The number of permanent servants in the Shaofu has doubled, and Shanglin Garden has been demolished to pieces. It still occupies such a vast area, but several key functions within it are missing.

There are still troops stationed there, and villagers still have villagers, but Yulin, alas~

This is probably another example of how Liu Hong was very good at extracting the dross. No wonder later generations only talked about its luxury and magnificence when mentioning Shanglin Garden.

Walking to the gate of the military camp, there were no shouts and shouts of drills in the military camp, smoke rose into the sky, and the smell of meat filled the air.

The military camp was built against the mountain with high walls on three sides. There was a prison carved into the mountain on the east side. It was originally the Shanglin Prison. However, because there were too many Yellow Turban prisoners of war, shacks were pulled out on the side of the mountain wall and manned by the first battalion.

Guarded by soldiers.

Two guards squatted in front of the military camp, throwing their spears aside, with their hands in their sleeves. When they saw Liu Cang and the other two, they reluctantly stood up and walked toward the camp gate.

Shout.

There is a plaque saying "Support the Army" hanging on the tower of the camp gate. The plaque is relatively new and should have been hung up not long ago.

Following the shouts of the guards, five more soldiers ran out of the camp, wearing thick coats but no armor.

No one came forward to question Liu Cang and others. The soldiers who left the camp hesitantly moved away the horses blocking the camp gate. Liu Cang rode his horse in and frowned at the soldiers on the side of the road. The soldiers lowered their heads and seemed not interested in following.

Liu Cang’s understanding and communication.

The soldier's physical constitution is 60/217. The upper limit of physical fitness is very high among soldiers. The strength can be considered as an elite soldier. But compared with the upper limit of physical fitness, Liu Cang shook his head secretly.

These soldiers had nothing to do with Liu Cang. They were temporarily under the command of Jian Shuo, the regular servant of the Central Committee. Liu Cang ignored them and Mu Qi showed them the way when they entered the camp.

The bungalow is located on the north side of the military camp. There is a slope built with stones inside the outer wall of the military camp. The entire military camp occupies a large area, covering more than two miles horizontally and vertically. The camp is simple and empty, and there is a very mismatched central garden with a pavilion in the center.

With the pavilion as the center, the military camp grounds are divided into four parts, and in two of them there are soldiers doing running exercises.

Liu Cang passed by an empty school field and saw a bonfire set up on the school field. Next to the bonfire was an animal that Liu Cang had never seen before.

There seemed to be soldiers and generals in the pavilion in the center of the school ground. When they saw Liu Cang and others, they rushed here.

Liu Cang stood up immediately, not paying attention to the soldiers in front of him. His eyes widened as he looked at the strange animal on the ground that was missing one of its front legs.

"What is this?" Liu Cang asked Mu Qi beside him.

"Sir, this is Qilin Wei Sima! How brave are you, how dare you hunt for treasures privately!?" Mu Qi replied to Liu Cang, and while he was speaking, soldiers rushed over to scold him. When he scolded him, he didn't take it seriously at all.

Kirin? Isn’t it the promised giraffe?
