Volume 1: Endless Wilderness Chapter 2: Strange Beasts in the Mist

Su Chen rummaged around in the k1 base's general storage for a long time and found two boxes of well-sealed gas masks.

The gas mask in front of him was completely different from what Su Chen knew.

It is transparent in appearance and as thin as a cicada's wings, and it absorbs firmly as soon as it touches Su Chen's skin.

Su Chen suddenly felt uncomfortable. The thin film covering his nose forced him to breathe harder, making it difficult for him to adapt to his breathing rhythm.

This is just Su Chen's personal feeling after wearing it.

In addition, there are two things to note about this gas mask.

First, this gas mask with self-adsorption is a disposable product. Once it is taken off during wearing, it will be discarded.

Secondly, after being successfully worn, this gas mask only provides a six-hour safety period.

Su Chen is able to accept these two precautions.

Compared with the old-fashioned gas masks that were thick and easily blocked his vision, this gas mask obviously satisfied him more.

The sundries warehouse at K1 base is currently quite complete. Except for the lack of food and weapons, the reserves of daily necessities are very complete.

While Su Chen adapted to the breathing rhythm of wearing a gas mask, he searched for the equipment he needed to go out.

In the end, Su Chen decided to bring a travel backpack, which contained some necessary supplies and emergency items.

In addition, he also carried a multifunctional military shovel and an unedged mountain cleaver.

After the preparations were completed, Su Chen came to the elevator on the underground floor of the K1 base.

As the elevator slowly rose, Su Chen's breathing rhythm involuntarily accelerated.

Tension is inevitable, this is a different world, not a virtual world where you can be resurrected infinitely after death.

bite!

As the elevator door opened, Su Chen's thoughts were interrupted. He gritted his teeth and stepped out before the elevator door closed automatically.

Above the K1 base was a secret, lightless cave. Su Chen turned on the low-light flashlight he had prepared in advance and walked straight along the rock wall.

The cave was not deep. Su Chen reached the cave entrance safely and turned around to find a camera with a faint red light.

Su Chen stretched out his hand to wipe away the water mist on the lens, looked up at the thick gray mist in front of him, and for a moment he didn't know which direction to go.

"Xiao Sha, provide me with a road map!" Su Chen checked Xiao K's information database before leaving, and there was no map around the K1 base in it.

Su Chen originally thought he could come and go freely without a road map, but as soon as he arrived at the entrance of the cave, he was dissuaded by the thick fog in front of him.

"Turn on map mode...Sorry host, we don't have the relevant map yet."

"Good guy, what do I need from you? You used to be able to load the entire image, but now after the update, you can't even load the bigger part."

As soon as Su Chen finished complaining, the emotionless voice of the killing system sounded in his ears again, "The map entry function and punctuation annotation function have been updated."

Su Chen had a cold face and did not respond.

The so-called map entry function of the system, to put it simply, allows Su Chen to explore the map by himself.

The map provided by the system is originally dark, but wherever Su Chen goes it becomes brighter, and the surrounding environment and terrain are automatically recorded.

Su Chen would be very interested in putting this in the virtual world, but in the toxic mist that is surrounded by dangers, any wrong step can be fatal.

Even so, Su Chen at this moment still has to rely on the map mode of the killing system to survive.

After all, the poisonous fog is thick and it is easy to lose direction. Su Chen, relying on the map mode, can always lock his position, at least he will not spin around.

Su Chen took a deep breath. Even if there were many dangers ahead, he could not retreat.

Rather than starve to death in shame, he would rather die in the poisonous mist that the natives said would destroy the world.

After leaving the cave entrance, Su Chen could clearly feel that the surroundings had become more humid and weird.

Su Chen was even more alert. Every few steps he took, he had to stop and observe what was going on around him.

The surroundings were quiet and windless, and apart from the rustling of fallen leaves made by Su Chen's feet, no other sounds could be heard.

The quieter it was, the deeper the danger was hidden. When Su Chen stopped, he would close his eyes and look at the map from time to time.

On the one hand, he must ensure that he does not go astray; on the other hand, if he encounters danger, he must at least ensure that his retreat route is correct.

Su Chen's worries may be unnecessary. He walked for half a quarter of an hour and did not encounter any living creatures along the way.

It was definitely a good thing that he didn't encounter any weird creatures, but as there were more and more trees around, Su Chen felt an unspeakable strangeness in his heart for no reason.

As Su Chen continued to move forward according to his thoughts, the trees in front of him gradually showed strange changes.

Through layers of dense fog, Su Chen saw large alien trees that looked like they were kneaded between humans and some kind of animal.

The bark of these big trees is blood red, and the branches are very thick and long, like the tentacles of some kind of creature.

What's even more weird is that its leaves are bright red. If you look carefully, you can see that the leaves are covered with black spots, which seem to be the eyes of some kind of creature.

After just a few glances, Su Chen felt like a cat with exploded hair. His rationality was swallowed up by fear, and his body followed his instinct and ran back like crazy.

At the same time, the noise caused by Su Chen's running stimulated the dreams of some kind of creature around him, and soon a sharp and ear-piercing roar reached Su Chen's ears.

Su Chen, who had lost his mind, was brought back to some sense by this roar. He made up his mind and bit the tip of his tongue. As the taste of blood spread rapidly in his mouth, Su Chen's reason completely suppressed the fear that surrounded his heart.

As soon as Su Chen suppressed his fear with reason, he heard the rustling sound and the heavy breathing of beasts coming from behind him.

"Damn it!" Su Chen cursed in his heart and quickly closed his eyes to confirm the route map while running fast.

With the blessing of two negative buffs, hunger and weight, even if Su Chen ran with all his strength, he still couldn't get rid of the unknown beast behind him.

The original owner of Su Chen's body was a scientific researcher who stayed at the K1 base, and his physical strength and endurance were average.

After Su Chen's many times of exertion and this strenuous exercise, his fragile body, which could not withstand the torment, could no longer hold back this time.

The heart that almost jumped into his throat and the faint feeling of weightlessness made Su Chen know that he could no longer run.

If he grits his teeth and continues running, he will soon lose his ability to resist completely due to lack of physical strength.

Su Chen's original plan was to lure the unknown beast deep into the cave of the K1 base, where there were still many traps that had not been triggered.

It's a pity that the plan couldn't keep up with the changes.

Su Chen gradually slowed down his steps, dropped the multifunctional military shovel in his hand, and firmly held the machete with both hands, preparing to fight.

As Su Chen's pace slowed down, the beast behind him seemed to be afraid of Su Chen's backhand and slowed down his pace.

Su Chen knew that the other party was observing him. He tried to adjust his rapid breathing rhythm, stopped and turned around, and looked at the other end of the voice.

Through the thick gray fog, Su Chen could only see the rough outline of the beast.

This beast is not that big, visually it is almost the same as an adult gray wolf.

But they are just similar in body shape and completely different in appearance.

Through layers of dense fog, Su Chen could see six mysterious objects growing on its back, resembling tree vines and tentacles.

In addition, its mouth is completely open, like a blooming chrysanthemum.

This suddenly reminded Su Chen of the slit dog in a certain biochemical film.

This is not a ferocious beast. It is simply a terrifying alien beast that has mutated through some kind of catalysis.

"Damn it! This dog system will definitely transport me to a doomsday world similar to a zombie outbreak." Su Chen cursed in his heart, and tightened his grip on the machete with two more points of strength.

The strange beast in the mist did not stop moving forward when Su Chen stopped. It walked steadily and kept approaching Su Chen.

As it got closer and closer to Su Chen, Su Chen saw its true appearance through layers of thick fog.

This wolf-like beast actually had no fur, only wriggling flesh and blood. It looked very similar to the blood-red tree bark Su Chen had seen before.

In addition, the weirdest thing is its eyes, which are located in the center of its head.

At this moment, its one dark green eye was staring at the machete in Su Chen's hand.

When the distance between the two sides was less than three meters, Su Chen could even clearly see the traces of its flesh and blood crawling, as well as the six twisted flesh and blood tentacles that were eager to attack him.

roar!

With the low roar of the alien beast, it took the lead in launching an offensive.

The alien beast jumped up, and the six tentacles on its back were dancing in the air.

The top of these six tentacles resembles a suction cup, with four asymmetrical sharp fangs growing on the edge, trying to adsorb on Su Chen's skin and absorb Su Chen's flesh and blood crazily.

Su Chen had never seen such a big scene before, and he was so panicked that he had to bite the tip of his tongue lightly to let the pain stimulate his nerves.

Su Chen, who felt the pain, once again suppressed his fear and panic. He gave a soft drink and waved the machete in his hand.

Although the mountain cleaver weighing ten kilograms did not have an edge, it was wielded with extraordinary power by Su Chen's combined hands.

The alien beast that jumped into the air had no way to dodge, and its completely split chrysanthemum mouth was the first to be severely damaged.

An irresistible force pushed its body, knocking the strange beast out of the air.

As the strange beast fell to the ground, Su Chen breathed heavily in relief.

Su Chen didn't expect that a random swing could repel or even injure the alien beast. It seemed that the alien beast in front of him was not as invincible as he thought.

He still has hope of survival!
