Chapter 36: Unlearned and Skilled(2/2)
The original source is: 'Perhaps Confucius said: 'Zi Xi does not do politics?' Confucius said: 'The Book of Records says: "Filial piety is only filial piety, friends to brothers, and charity to those who have politics."'
Anyone who has read the Analects of Confucius knows that this sentence comes from the chapter "Wei Zheng". Confucius quoted the book when answering questions from his disciples.
But which article and sentence in the book are quoted? Most people don’t care.
But after Zhang Yue read the Book of Books, he found it in the chapter "Jun Chen".
The original text is 'Jun Chen Ruo said: "Jun Chen, I will order you to be virtuous and respectful. I will only be filial to my friends and my brothers, and be responsible for administration. I will order you to be in the eastern suburbs. Thank you!"'
This sentence is similar to the source.
Then here comes the problem.
Zhang Yue asked the professor for advice. These two sentences are inconsistent. Who made the mistake in the Analects of Confucius?
So the professor got furious and said, "If you don't study hard, and don't expound on exegesis, but you are wondering which version is the correct one, the Analects of Confucius or the Shangshu Two Classics, it's okay if I don't scold you."
If the Analects of Confucius is right, then the Book of Confucius is wrong; if the Book of Confucius is wrong, then the Analects of Confucius is right. What is the Book of Confucius? It means that not a single word can be changed, and every sentence is a golden rule. If the emperor's edict is wrong, the Book of Confucius will not be wrong. Zhang Yue's move is not
Respecting the scriptures but doubting them is an act of great rebellion in the eyes of scholars.
After learning the truth, people laughed and left. Zhang Heng also smiled and said to Lin Xi, "What do you think, brother Zizhong?"
Lin Xiliu thought about it: "The article "Jun Chen" comes from the ancient text Shangshu, which is the origin of the 11th sage Sun Kong An. Later, it was lost due to the chaos in Yongjia. The book written by Mei Zhi from Yuzhang Nei Shi became what we read today.
It has not been suspected since the Tang Dynasty."
"Yes, how did you evaluate this boy before?"
Zhang Heng thought for a while and said, "You don't have skills to learn."
Lin Xi laughed and said, "Of course."
"Oh? What do you mean by this?"
Lin Xidao: "If you don't learn skills, what if you learn them?"
Hearing what Lin Xi said, all the officials were in an uproar.
