Chapter 296 The Kra Canal

Chapter 296 Cara Canal

After learning what the senior management meant, Zeng Lingfeng stopped waiting and took action immediately.

On July 15, 2013, Ms. Xue Jinglei, Executive Second Vice President of Hanyu Mimon Group, visited Thailand and held many talks with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Sinava and Thai Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Gidila.

On July 20, 2013, Hanyu Mimon Group and the Thai government signed a cooperation agreement, and it was this cooperation agreement that caused surging waves around the world.

Hanyu Mimeng Group invested 200 billion yuan to work with the Thai government to dig the Isthmus of Kra.

In order to open up construction and commercial management after the completion of the canal project, Hanyu Mimeng Group and the Thai government jointly established a canal management company. In this company, Hanyu Mimeng Group holds 49% of the shares and the Thai government holds 51% of the shares. However, the daily operations of the canal management company are under the responsibility of Hanyu Mimeng Group, and Thailand cannot intervene. After the completion and navigation of the canal, all ships belonging to Hanyu Mimeng Group have the right to pass the canal for free.

The planned Kara Canal has a river width of 500 meters and a water depth of 25 meters, allowing 250,000-ton tankers to pass through the canal smoothly.

The Kra Canal was not excavated from the narrowest location of the Kra Isthmus, because it was going to cross Phuket Mountain or Luang Mountain, which was difficult to construct. Therefore, it was chosen to dig it in a slightly southerly area, with a total length of 112 kilometers, and it traveled through Songkhla and Satun. Although the river channel is longer, the terrain is relatively flat and there are not many residential areas along the line.

After the canal is built, the ship does not have to cross the Strait of Malacca and detour through Malaysia and Singapore. It can indirectly enter the Gulf of Thailand in the Pacific from the Andaman Sea in the Indian Ocean. The voyage is shortened by at least about 1,200 kilometers, and large ships can save 2 to 5 days, and each voyage is estimated to save nearly US$300,000.

As for the construction period and funds, because the construction period of only conventional construction is too long, it takes 10 years initially. Therefore, Hanyu Mimeng Group plans to adopt unconventional construction, using nuclear energy technology to dig, shortening the excavation time to three years. Correspondingly, the cost of digging of the canal has been greatly increased. Because according to the old regulations, the cost is only 20 billion US dollars, and according to the current exchange rate, that is, 150 billion RMB. However, the cost of construction according to the shortest construction period is as high as 29 billion US dollars, or 220 billion RMB, which has increased the budget of 70 billion RMB.

The reason why this plan was passed so quickly was because of the joining of the Hanyu Mimon Group, the problems that originally disturbed the canal were dealt with.

In recent years, the Thai government and opposition have roughly three attitudes towards the Kra Canal: support, oppose, and look at it.

The representative figure of support is the current Vice Prime Minister General Chawali. After he became the Prime Minister of Thailand in November 1996, he intended to promote the digging of the canal, but his ambition was not fulfilled. A year later, he resigned because he was unable to withstand the pressure of the financial crisis. Chawali became the Deputy Prime Minister of the Thaksin Government in February 2000. In 2003, led by Chawali, the Ministry of Transport established a research committee and signed a contract with a Hong Kong company in early 2004 to entrust him to conduct a feasibility study on the canal. Both the upper and lower houses of the Thai Parliament also had relevant committees.

According to a survey conducted by a Thai polling agency in August 2003, 28% support the digging of canals; 33% believe that the pros and cons are mixed, and they do not argue whether the river can be dug. People list the aspects that are beneficial to Thailand: First, it creates employment opportunities for the people, and there were research results that it would provide employment for 30,000 people. Second, it can generate income for the country. It is estimated that the canal canal can pass 290 to 320 ships per day, and the toll income is considerable. Third, Thailand has thus become a maritime hub, which will increase its attractiveness to foreign investors and drive the entire country's economy.

The representative figure of the opposition is General Tan Mala, the Minister of Defense. He believes that digging the canal is expensive. Although some countries and international institutions expressed their intention to participate in investment, Thailand is still overwhelmed; it will cause severe damage to the ecological environment; technical difficulties are not easy to deal with; its value cannot be compared with the Suez Canal or Panama Canal.

In the polls, 24% of the rivers were opposed to digging. In addition to the similar opinions from the Mara La, they were also worried that the project funds would be embezzled like many large-scale projects in Thailand in the past; they were worried that there would not be many ships to pass after the excavation, which would be more than worth the loss; some people consider that the five residences in southern Thailand had been in trouble for a long time, and the canal plan just separates these five residences from the main body of the country, and they were worried that there would be a separatist situation in the country.

However, now a private company like Hanyu Mimeng Group is involved in the excavation of the canal, which makes the sovereignty of the canal not dispute, because Hanyu Mimeng Group cannot compete for ownership of the canal. The Hanyu Mimeng Group provided up to 200 billion yuan of funds, which can almost meet the funds required for the excavation of the canal. Even if Thailand needs a certain investment, it is very small, at most one hundred billion US dollars, which is completely unlucky. Moreover, after the canal is opened, Thailand can not only enjoy the economic development brought by the canal, but also obtain 51% of the profits brought by the canal indirectly. This amount of money will look at at least one billion US dollars a year.

As for the canal management company operated by Hanyu Mimeng Group, the Thais have no objection. Because reality has long shown the ability of Hanyu Mimeng Group in operation and management. Moreover, Hanyu Mimeng Group continues to enjoy the top international reputation, and Thais have no reason to doubt it.

Therefore, after the Hanyu Mimon Group proposed this plan, even the power figures in Thailand who had tried their best to oppose the canal had no reason to oppose it.

In the cooperation agreement, Xue Jinglei and Yingluck Sinava signed on behalf of Hanyu Mimon Group and the Thai government respectively.

This contract eventually led to the recession of the economy of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, especially Singapore, and the domestic economy continued to decline within ten years. The two beauties signed on this contract also made history remember their names.

Just after the Thai government and Hanyu Mimon Group signed an agreement and announced the news, it was subject to strong protests from Singapore and other three countries.

Although before the canal was really established, both Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore were very disdainful of this. The domestic public opinion circles clearly blew cold winds, questioning the significance of the Kara Canal to international shipping, and believing that the Kara Canal is known as the "Asian Suez Canal" and is just a nameless one. It is not only not allowed to circulate the Malay Peninsula, which is more than 130,000 square kilometers. Compared with the African continent where the Suez Canal is not allowed to circulate the more than 30 million square kilometers, it is a "small witch".

However, these countries actually understand very well that once the canal is opened, their domestic economy will be hit.

For Malaysia and Indonesia, which have relatively vast land area, this blow is not fatal, because the benefits brought by the Strait of Malacca are not the pillar of their national economy. After the canal is opened, their country will probably experience a period of economic decline, but will recover soon.

However, for Singapore, which has a small land area and uses marine transportation as one of the pillars of the national economy and the most important pillar, this blow is fatal.

After learning that Hanyu Mimon Group will cooperate with Thailand to dig the Kara Canal, the reactions of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore can also see who the canal has a great impact.

Malaysia and Indonesia simply issued a written protest, believing that the Thai government and the Hanyu Mimon Group did not consider the feelings of the people of the two countries and the interests of their two countries. However, they still said that the two governments were looking at the plan of Thailand and Hanyu Mimon Group to dig the Kara Canal. Thailand has the right to dig the canal because it is located in Thailand's territory. If Thailand digs the canal, Malaysia and Indonesia will readjust the economy and seek ways to benefit from it. At the press conference of the two governments, both governments said that history proved that although the development of other canals such as the Suez and Panama Canals has been affected, the development of the surrounding areas has not been paralyzed. Because the Kara Canal cannot paralyze the economies of both countries.

However, Singapore's reaction was a little hysterical. This was impossible, because the Strait of Malacca is not only the maritime lifeline of China, Japan and other countries, but also the foundation of Singapore. The digging of the Kara Canal undoubtedly cut off Singapore's foundation.

But among the people in Singapore, the reactions were inconsistent. Some hysterical scolded Hanyu Mimeng Group and the Thai government were shameless, some sarcastic words and sarcastic words said Hanyu Mimeng Group made the stupidest decision, and some said Hanyu Mimeng Group ignored the fact that most people in Singapore and Chinese were the same roots and fell into trouble.

The U.S. government is also questioning the agreement between Hanyu Mimon Group and Thailand to dig the Kara Canal. This is also easy to understand because it affects the United States' strategic military deployment in Southeast Asia and thus regional politics.

Because of the doubts of the US government, the Japanese government, which would have become one of the biggest beneficiaries after the opening of the Kra Canal, also expressed silence to the news. However, among the Japanese people, there is a lot of praise. Many Japanese people say that the Hanyu Mimon Group is the most friendly company to the Japanese government in the world. When they said this, they completely forgot the various constrainings of the Hanyu Mimon Group on Japan before: controlling rare earths, controlling Australian iron ore and copper ore, and controlling Russian oil...

Hanyu Mimeng Group did not express any opinions on any voice from the outside world and was very calm. Hanyu Mimeng Group also refused Lee Hsien Long's request for visit, because President Zeng Lingfeng had no free time recently, and finally refused the request for Lee Hsien Long and Zeng Lingfeng to call.

In fact, Zeng Lingfeng was indeed not available at this time. He had already gotten off the underground base and began to work with scientific researchers to solve the problem of miniaturizing fusion reactors. In other words, Zeng Lingfeng began to go into seclusion.
