Chapter 68 Face Problem

After the end of World War II, the United States hated Japan and decided to completely eliminate Japan's war threat and completely eliminate its heavy industrial production capacity. The "Poly Compensation Plan": Demolition of 20 million tons of steel equipment, more than 3/4 of machines, all magnesium and aluminum and 3/4 of shipbuilding industry to East Asian countries as war compensation. In response, it is prepared to vigorously aid China and build China into a strong fortress against the Soviet Union in the Far East. In order to avoid civil war and develop as soon as possible, Truman sent General Marshall to mediate the conflict between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.

However, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were incompatible with each other. The civil war broke out, and mainland China became "red" and turned to the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union conspired to provoke the Korean War and deceived China into getting involved in order to restrain the United States. MacArthur did not understand politics and deliberately bombed the Chinese border. Under deception and persecution, the new China tried its best to join the war. China not only disappointed the United States, but also became a strong enemy and mortal enemy of the United States.

On June 25, 1951, North Korea suddenly attacked South Korea. In September, New China suddenly joined the war. In that month, representatives of 52 countries held a peace meeting against Japan in San Francisco. Except for the Soviet Union, Poland, and Czechoslovakia, most of the participating countries signed the "San Francisco Contract": ending the era of Japan's occupation and establishing the US-Japan relations based on military alliances. Paragraph 14 also specifically stipulates that the participating countries "give up the right to claim war compensation from Japan."

The United States immediately returned the demolished Japanese equipment and helped Japan launch new equipment, and carried out full production, including secretly producing napalm bombs, and fully supplying it to the Korean War. Japan suddenly replaced China and became a strong fortress for the United States in the Far East.

From 1951 to 1953, Japan accepted various orders from the United States to the Korean battlefield for US$3.6 billion. From 1950 to 1960, Japan accepted US "special demand" orders from the United States totaling US$61.07 billion. By 1955, except for "foreign trade", Japan's economic indicators basically reached or exceeded the pre-war highest level. Obtaining overseas resources and returning to overseas markets became Japan's top priority.

However, China refused to admit that the "San Francisco Contract" which "give up the right to claim war compensation from Japan", and China refused to admit that the Philippines proposed to boycott the Peace Conference. North Korea, Myanmar, Mongolia, Vietnam, Indonesia and other Asian countries opposed it. Malaya did not give face to the Japanese dog owner, the US government, and blocked the Strait of Malacca. Unilateral sanctions against Japan. This cast a strong shadow on Japan's Asian diplomacy and also put a heavy burden on Japan's economic development. As we all know, Japan is a resource-poor island country, and most of the production raw materials needed need to be imported. The Strait of Malacca is no less than its lifeline. With the rise of emerging countries such as Malaya, the high cost of production raw materials has led to high prices of products, and Japanese goods are increasingly losing competitiveness in the international market. Improving the attitude of Asian countries such as Malaya has become the top priority of the Japanese government.

At this time, in the conference hall in Malaya, officials in the mainland government, including Wu Ming, were listening attentively to a middle-aged man giving a lecture like a primary school student.

"Since Japan joined the "Colombo Plan" to aid Southeast Asia led by the United Kingdom, it has adopted a strategy of treating it separately and breaking through each breakthrough: Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam, which are tough and insist on compensation, promised compensation year by year; Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and South Korea, which have given up compensation, signed a quasi-compensation agreement and provided free aid. Now it has proposed a Japanese yen loan. In this regard, I solemnly remind the president and all gentlemen that this is absolutely unacceptable." The middle-aged man pushed his glasses and turned his attention to everyone.

Wu Ming frowned and asked, "The Japanese yen loan is just a disguised war compensation. What trap is there?"

"Mr. President." The middle-aged man nodded slightly and said with a expressionless face: "You are excellent in other aspects, but you are not proficient in economics. Of course, you cannot see what is in it. May I ask: After a country obtains a Japanese yen loan, which country should it import? What goods should it import? Which country's products are used to? Which country's currencies are reserved?"

"Of course, we need to import Japanese equipment, steel, cars, motorcycles, fertilizers, watches, electrical appliances, cameras, etc. But just convert the yen into US dollars and pounds and buy goods from other countries." Wu Ming did not care about the middle-aged man's arrogant attitude. Instead, he said with a smile.

"Even if you convert the Japanese yen into US dollars and pounds and buy goods from other countries, countries that exchange them to the Japanese yen must buy Japanese goods, and the yen is not an international currency now." The middle-aged man smiled a little like mockery, which made many government officials feel uncomfortable. However, because Wu Ming was present, he did not say anything. The middle-aged man did not realize it and said: "No one realized the significance of Japanese yen loans to the Japanese economy. If he purchases Japanese goods and is used to Japanese goods, he will continue to buy Japanese goods and reserve Japanese yen. Therefore, in the long run, the Japanese yen will gradually be accepted by Asian countries, accepted by the international community, and become an international currency."

"On the other hand, yen loans are paid and must be repaid. What kind of yen loans are used by Asian countries to repay? They are ore, oil, wood, and natural rubber. These are the most basic raw materials for Japanese industrial production. As we all know, the prices of agricultural products and primary products are now very low. In this way, Japan will gain endless benefits from it. Combining war compensation with economic aid, from a long-term result, it will play a huge and positive role in expanding trade in Japan. The government's efforts will surpass Japan in eight or nine years, which is just a dream." The middle-aged man concluded finally.

"From this point, the war of aggression has benefited a lot from Japan. It not only opened up a long-standing overseas trade, but also brought continuous financial resources." Zhao Xiaomei turned to Wu Ming and said, "If the invaded country refuses Japan's aid and loans, it will block Japan's economic expansion. If you insist on asking for war compensation, and it is US dollar compensation, it will drain Japan's blood."

"I also benefited a lot today." Wu Ming nodded and agreed: "The US dollar is pegged to gold, with a fixed exchange rate, and 1 ounce of gold is equal to 35 US dollars. If we all insist on asking for war compensation from the US dollar, then Japan will become our long-term workers, and it will be difficult to make a comeback."

"This guy is a talented person. Although he is a bit arrogant and rude, many people here will probably be dissatisfied with him." Foreign Minister Zheng Pingru whispered from the side.

Wu Ming nodded, lowered his head and thought for a while, stood up and walked to the middle-aged man, and asked him to sit down politely.

"Today we are making a fool of ourselves in front of experts, and we are embarrassed." Wu Ming turned to many government officials and said, "However, I think it is normal to be criticized, whether serious or not, and no one is perfect. In my understanding, the manifestation of healthy and confident is that a person can accept praise, or criticism, listen to good words, or listen to bad words. If he is overly sensitive and hates the person who says you, then most of us can only examine ourselves. Are we overly sensitive to bad words? Why are we hurt by one sentence or one action? Perhaps many people say that this Lu Xiao expert does not respect us enough. I want to explain that this is a misunderstanding. The respect we understand is just fear.

It is possible to respect a person, make jokes about him, and criticize him. This is a relaxed interpersonal relationship in an atmosphere of tolerance and friendship, and it is also a culture based on a deep understanding of human nature. I don’t know if you have read Mr. Lin Yutang’s “Face and the Legal System”. The so-called face is not a reality or reality, but an illusion of being carefully protected by individuals. As the saying goes, people live a face and a skin. Everyone likes to hear others say good things, and they don’t care at all whether such good words are objective. This psychology makes good words cheap and perfunctory and meaningless. At the same time, this kind of face-loving mentality leads to a lack of error correction ability, an external manifestation of poor content, and a boring vanity."

Wu Ming walked on the stage twice, looked up and continued, "I'm talking a little confused. You may not understand what it means. I'll sort it out and send it to the newspaper to discuss this issue together. However, I decided to formally invite Lu Xiao to serve as the government's economic adviser and help the government handle the negotiations with Japan in less than one year of my term. I also hope that the next government can be humble, lose the so-called face, and strive for the great development of Malaya."

A small commotion occurred in the venue. This was the first time that Wu Ming officially proposed not to run for president. More or less, people were shocked. After ten years of development, the overall development of Malaya is obvious to all, and the rapid accumulation of social wealth has led to the national welfare policy gradually being rolled out, the social environment is becoming increasingly stable, science and technology progresses rapidly, and the potential is huge. Wu Ming has a lofty prestige in both the military, political and business circles, and his personal relationship with Western leaders is also good. Although the Constitution stipulates that there is no extreme special situation and the term of president cannot exceed two terms, many people think that letting Wu Ming remain for another term will play a very important role in the development of Malaya.
