Chapter 5: Crossing the River, the Ghost Carrying the Coffin
That was the heaviest thing I had ever carried. Until now, I still feel scared. The nine of us carried the coffin step by step, with our teeth clenched tightly. The third brother and I were at the back, where the feet were, so the weight was relatively less. The man in front heard him panting like a cow, less than dozens of steps away from the river. When we stepped onto the stone bridge, the two people carrying the coffin in front could not stand it. As soon as they fell, they rushed forward and leaned forward with the coffin for a while.
"Xiaolong, go up" the gentleman shouted, and his apprentice immediately threw away the things in his hand, ran to the front of the coffin, angrily slapped the bottom of the coffin, and the only son raised the head of the coffin, with a terrible strength.
"Speed up, don't look at the river!" The gentleman shouted. At this time, we didn't listen to him. Even though our backs were wet with cold sweat, we all gritted our teeth and rushed forward. As for the filial sons who were pulling the dragon rope in front, they were scared and pulled the coffin forward desperately.
As soon as I arrived at the bridge, I suddenly felt a sank under my feet, and immediately I felt water rushing up the bridge. I was about to look down when the third brother shouted.
"Look at the front, don't look around, it's really impossible to rush with your eyes closed!"
He yelled at me, but I was not the only one who was curious. A bald man in front couldn't help but glance at the river with curiosity. He threw down the rod like crazy, screaming, and squeezed out the crowd and jumped straight into the river.
The gentleman squirted out blood, grabbed him and smashed him hard on the stone bridge. He immediately knocked him unconscious on the stone bridge. Because he suddenly ran away, there was one person missing from the rod and the coffin tilted to one side.
"Xiaojiu, there's a fucking ghost." The third brother choked, his voice filled with crying, and his hands and feet began to tremble.
"I'm afraid of being furious, let me rush!" I shouted, but the two and the third brother in front looked at me with horror, and their eyes kept signaling me to look up. When I lifted my head, I saw something in white clothes crawling on the coffin, and the water on the clothes flowed down the coffin.
I swallowed deeply and glanced at the place where the rod was missing. There was also a guy who couldn't see clearly to help lift the rod. My hands and feet were shaking, and my teeth kept trembling.
Suddenly I thought of the statue of the Bodhisattva in my arms. I gritted my teeth, pulled out the statue of the Bodhisattva and stuck it on it. The person on the coffin immediately screamed, and it quickly slid into the river like a fish.
"Don't move, if you fucking dare to let go, I'll post it to you," the third brother roared, holding his aunt's scarf in his hand and shouting at the thing in front of him.
The gentleman turned around and took a look. He slapped his thigh and ran up happily. He grabbed the aunt's scarf in the third brother's hand and forced the person who couldn't see his face to help lift the rod.
"No matter what you see, rush for me. After crossing the river, you will run back. As for whether you can run back or not, it depends on whether you are strong or not."
The gentleman's words scared everyone's faces pale because after crossing the river, there was a mountain grave. We did not go up the mountain grave, but threw the coffin and ran away across the river. How could we dare to hesitate now?
After a few people shouted together, they carried the pole and stepped on the stone bridge and ran to the opposite side. The river water rolled back as if it was rising. The people who followed were so scared that they didn't even dare to come from behind the river. My Bodhisattva statue was still on the coffin. Under the guidance of the gentleman, we carried the coffin as soon as we got ashore, the third brother and I looked at each other, and I grabbed the Bodhisattva statue and turned around and ran away, allowing the coffin to smash it hard on the ground.
"Run, don't look back!" The gentleman shouted, and the person holding the pole ran back desperately. The river water had already emerged and crossed the bridge.
My third brother and I were running in front. In the end, I couldn't help but glance at the riverside. I saw a woman in white clothes and a blue face standing on the riverside, looking at me with a cracked mouth and smiled. The more cunning ones I would be.
"I don't want to die?" The third brother patted my head and pulled me to run desperately. As soon as he was about to leave the stone bridge, he was grabbed by one hand and pulled my third brother and I on the stone bridge.
"Fuck" the third brother has a bad temper. He grabbed what was under his feet, "Xiao Jiu, run away quickly."
After hearing his words, I quickly ran away, kicked the things on my feet, and even kicked my shoelaces into the river. I ran onto the dirt road with barefoot. Although my feet were sore, I didn't care about it and ran to my house all the way.
"Xiaojiu, Xiaojiu, save me!"
While I ran, I heard the third brother's voice coming from behind. I saw him crawling by the river and pulling him into the river with one hand.
"Lao San," I was running back, my ear was pulled. When I turned around, it was the third one. "I asked you to run, why are you running back? Run quickly," he shouted in anger.
"Where is the river?" I turned around and saw that there was no third brother by the river at this time. Some of them were a cat. It squatted down in the grass and looked at me with green eyes.
"Have you seen the hair? Run quickly!" As soon as the third brother finished speaking, he pulled me forward. The strong wind blew behind him, following us tightly like long eyes. As the third brother ran, he took out a pig-killing knife, pushed me and rushed in to the strong wind.
