Chapter 21 The Pretty Philip

Philip, Duke of Vienna, was the beloved son of Emperor Maximian. If everything goes well, he may one day become the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

In addition to this noble identity, Philip's nickname made many people misunderstand him somewhat.

"Beautiful Philip" is the name of him. Because of this nickname, many people actually regard Philip as a playboy with a prominent background. Even in Castilla, when he accompanied Juana on this land, when he met the young and handsome duke again, many people directly labeled him the princess who charmed them with her face and was as impressive as a playboy.

Only Alexander did not forget that the prince was obviously not so easy to deal with.

Philip was appointed as the governor of the Lowlands of Flanders by his father Maximian a few years ago.

Speaking of the lowlands, that place has very unpleasant memories for Maximian. He had been there for some accidents in solving some troubles in tax payment by local merchants. Some of his words and deeds were besieged by locals because of their dissatisfaction. In order to escape from the predicament, he had to hide in a merchant's house to take refuge until his father sent an army to rescue him.

Even so, he temporarily calmed down the trouble that was not considered a riot but was definitely embarrassing enough after he had to agree to a series of conditions that the locals seemed completely indecent and in his opinion.

Therefore, for the lowland areas, although they always covet the market there driven by the strong commercial atmosphere, it is not easy to deal with when Maximian goes directly to those lowlanders.

However, after arriving in the lowlands, Philip unexpectedly made quite progress. He carried out a series of reforms that might not be loved by the Vienna nobles, but were popular in the local area. Even under the auspices of Philip, Flanders passed the first explicit commercial law.

This series of actions is enough to make Alexander attach great importance to the beautiful Philip, not to mention that he is Juana's husband and the father of the future Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Just these identities are enough to make Alexander value him very much.

So before the beginning, Alexander had instructed Normezi to not despise this young prince with a beautiful face, nor to be deceived by his beautiful angel-like appearance, thinking that he was just a playboy who relied on his face to make a living and confuse women.

This duke is not simple.

But Normezi didn't expect that he would be asked such a difficult question when he first met Philippe.

Normezi had never seen Groggenin, and he didn't even know what kind of deal there was between Groggenin and Alexander, but he knew this man and where he was now, because he had previously arrived in Iberia on a merchant ship from Groggenin in Sicily.

Although it is not clear how deep the relationship between Groghenin and Alexander is, Normezi knew that the lowland merchant was Alexander's partner, because now Groghenin has completely replaced Alexander's cooperation with Sicily consul Camus after leaving Sicily.

During this period, with Sicily as the transit station, Groghenning carefully managed his business on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, including the long line of transportation that had been established with the Egyptian Mamuliks and eventually led to Persia.

On the outside, this man was a lucky merchant from the north, but Normezi knew that he had a relationship with Alexander, because on the way to Castilla, he had already met a subordinate of Groggenin on the boat. The man was a sailor. In the secret letter he brought to him, he saw some secrets that only he and Alexander knew, which made him Normezi know that at least the lowland merchant had a very good relationship with the duke.

Now he suddenly heard Philip asks Groghenning, and he didn't know how to answer this. He recalled a little bit of a sudden and suddenly remembered what he had heard about the fact that there seemed to be some kind of connection between Alexander and the Lowlands, which made him more appropriate not to know how to respond to Philip.

"Which Grognin are you talking about? You know that this surname is very common in some places, such as Flanders. I don't know if the person you said was the same person as the Duke of Romanesia, or they might just belong to a huge family," Nolmezi replied casually, seeing Philip staring at him, just as he was about to say a few more words to try to get confused, Juana, who was sitting next to Isabella, suddenly exclaimed!

The shout suddenly attracted everyone's attention. Queen Isabella couldn't help but look at her and stood up on the throne. Philip, who had been waiting for Normezi's answer, turned his head and looked at his wife in surprise.

Juana stood up in a panic. She ran forward two steps first, then remembered something and turned around and bowed to her mother in a hurry: "I'm sorry, my mother, I suddenly remembered that I had not breastfeeded Charlie yet, I had to take care of my son."

After saying that, she trotted through a small door and headed towards a corridor under the surprise gaze of the court officials around her.

Normezi was a little stunned by Juana's unexpected behavior. He stood there awkwardly because he didn't know what had happened, but in his heart he was secretly relieved that Juana interrupted Philip's interrogation of him at this time.

"What can this make me say? Maybe I can only express some relief for her love for her children. After all, that may be the future emperor." Queen Isabella expelled her daughter in a somewhat self-deprecating tone, and then she looked at Philip standing beside her. "I think you must have spoiled her in Flanders' court. You must know that I have always educated her the most severely."

"I'm sorry, my majesty, I think this is indeed my responsibility, but because I love my wife so much, I can't bear to restrain her."

Philip was very tactful and found a step for his mother-in-law, but in this way, his inquiry to Normezi was naturally interrupted and unable to continue. Although he was still confused when he looked at Normezi, he was immediately attracted by the other things that followed.

Normezi's interview ended early because of a surprise move by Juana. When he left, standing in the open space outside the palace, Normezi looked back at the new palace, which had been repaired not long ago, and could not help but fall into deep thought.

He touched the golden mask on his face. During the meeting, Queen Isabella also asked him with concern what was wrong with his face. His answer was that he was injured by a musket in the previous battle against the regent Queen Ruosha.

But the pain that could be felt deep into the bone marrow as soon as he touched the mask reminded him what was the damaged face.

"Sir, you are here." Alonso Berugert ran over from a distance, wearing a small trumpet wardrobe that Normezi had to sew for him, and looked like a very lively waitress. "Are you going back?"

"Yes, today's mission has been completed." Nolmezi looked at the palace again and responded in a low voice. He had already seen the person he came to Valladot to meet this time, but to his surprise, the man seemed not so easy to deal with.

Normezi's residence in Valladot was on the second floor of Alonso Berugert's house. Alonso's parents cleaned up the house and then asked the Count to live in.

The reason for Normezi to come to Castilla this time was diplomatic, but when he met with some nobles in the palace, he had already hinted to those people about his embarrassing situation in Naples. Although he was pardoned by the Regent Queen and was appointed soon after, the queen obviously did not trust him, so she found an excuse to send him to Montina soon after. The Duke of Romantesia was obviously quite wary of him, so she simply asked him to go to Lombardy to deal with the French.

Afterwards, when the errands in Lombardy were finished, perhaps because he did a pretty good job, he finally gained some of the Duke's favor. So after leaving him with him for a while, the Duke finally sent him to envoy Castilla as if he was merciful or as if he was free.

This is what Normezi told others about his own experiences. These obviously do not sound lies. What’s important is that his experiences are indeed true.

In the eyes of the Castiles, Normezi was obviously a bad luck, because he was exiled because he was coldly treated and excluded in the palace. Such people were actually present in the Castile court. In their opinion, Normezi was even lucky. At least in Castile, if any minister became the thorn in the eyes of the two kings, he might not have the luck of Normezi.

Alonso Berugert originally lived and stayed, but now his room is next to Normezi, so that he can always listen to the greetings of the Count of the Later Earl.

The Berugert couple cares very much whether they are satisfied with the Earl serving the Earl. Women hope to get more rewards, while men hope that the Earl can bring their son to Rome.

Alonso's room was very small, just next to the stairs. There was a lot of messy things inside except for a small bed. When Normezi passed by and wanted to go back to his house, he suddenly felt a lot of things on the ground of the room with the door open.

"Alonso, did you carve these things?" Nolmezi picked up a carving of wood that had been carved by half and looked at it. Although his sword skills may be a little unfamiliar, he could still tell that it was a horse, and a knight on the horse seemed to have already taken a look.

Alonso Berugert showed a hint of panic on his face, and he stood aside in a hurry and apologized in a low voice: "Yes, sir, please forgive me for not carving such things again."

"No, it looks very interesting." Nolmezi smiled. He noticed that the pile of wood on the ground was actually a bunch of knights and soldiers. However, some of these wooden dolls had been carved, and some had a blurry outline.

"You are a very smart kid, but can you carve something that younger kids like? I mean the wooden toys that little girls only have a few years old like?" Nolmezi asked.

"I don't know, but I made some of the toys that my brother had when he was a child, but now they are a little bigger." Alonso replied blankly.

"That's fine. Listen from now on, you don't have to do anything. Just find a way to carve some gadgets that children will like after seeing them. It's best," Normezi thought for a while and continued, "It's better to carve before my next visit."

Alonso Berugert nodded in confusion. Although he didn't know what the Count wanted to do with such a child's toy, this made him very happy.

Alonso does like painting, but he also likes carving things. Now he heard that the Count actually supports him in making these things he likes, which makes Alonso unable to express his joy.

Just as Normezi ordered Alonso Berugert to carve the small toys, in the palace, Philip the Duke of Vienna was listening to the report of his men.

"That's it. The Earl of Nolmezi now lives in the home of a miller, and it is said that he has not interacted with anyone except for visiting some nobles these days." A man reported to Philip respectfully, and after saying that, he asked strangely, "But why are you interested in that Earl?"

"Because he came from the Duke of Romanesia," Philip said helplessly. "You know what happened in Flanders made my father very upset. He disapproved of my actions from the beginning. Then the troubles and failures I encountered in Amsterdam also became evidence that the nobles of the Vienna court slandered me before him, so I needed something to prove myself, and that Groghening was the culprit of all this, and I must find him."

"Your Highness, you don't have to worry, and you don't have to be anxious. You should know that you are the Duke of Vienna. This means that you are destined to be the Grand Duke of Austria and even the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in the future. By then, no one can question what you have done before, and you need only patience now."

Listening to the follower's words, Philip, who had been breathing rapidly due to his emotional excitement, slowly calmed down, and took the cup on the table and poured a sip of wine into his mouth.

"But I still want to know where that Grognin is, and he has made me lose a lot of people. This despicable lowland merchant not only snatched enough gold coins from me, but also caused me a lot of trouble. What I want to see is that he was hanged on the dock in Amsterdam."

"But you know that even if you catch him, you have no right to execute him like this according to the lowland laws. You can only hand him over to the court," the follower shook his head helplessly. "But the court is full of their people. You are indeed a little too kind to them."

"This time is different," Philip said angrily, "I must punish him, and as long as I catch him, I will definitely get enough evidence. By that time, the lowland judges will not be able to protect him."
