Chapter 6 Who Am I (Part 1)
In the darkness, Ding Mu felt the sharp cold wind passing by his side. His heart tightened due to fear and cold sweat broke out all over his body!
At the same time, screams sounded behind Ding Mu, and he could even feel a sticky liquid splashing on his neck.
Kun, who had already thrown away the oil lamp, couldn't hold back his breath. As he pushed Ding Mu aside and pulled back the dagger, a black shadow slowly fell to the ground.
"who are they?"
Although he knew that he would not get the answer, Ding Mu still asked involuntarily. He really didn't want to die in a remote fishing village on the sea for no reason, and he didn't know why it was for the sake of it in the end.
"Who are they?" Kuntuo asked back with a funny look, then pulled Ding Mu's shoulder and walked forward along the aisle quickly. At the same time, he lowered his voice and reminded him, "Listen, kid, you can run as soon as we go out, just run out." Speaking of this, he seemed afraid that Ding Mu would not listen to him, and suddenly he tightened his hand and threatened, "If I don't run, I won't care about you. Those people have arrived, and you will be dead by then."
Looking at the fierce light flashing in Kuntuo's eyes, Ding Mu immediately understood that this person would do it when he said it. Once he had a melee, he really wouldn't care about him.
It’s just that when the enemy is not in the clear whereabouts, I don’t have to think about it and know that Kuntuo didn’t have any kind intentions.
Ding Mu had some understanding of the weapons of this era. Although firearms had begun to appear in Europe at this time, their power and accuracy were not satisfactory. Therefore, even if the enemy outside had hot weapons in their hands, the threat would definitely not be compared with the weapons of later generations.
But this does not mean that the danger of being hit by a firearm is less. Moreover, in this era, there are weapons such as strong crossbows that are more terrifying than firearms to some extent. Who can guarantee that people outside do not have crossbows?
Ding Mu stood at the door at the end of the aisle, his lips tightly tense. He felt Kuntuo's hand pressing on his shoulder was exerting force. At the same time, something poked hard in the back of his heart. He guessed that it was the tip of the sword of the dagger.
"Run quickly, kid!" Kuntuo pushed Ding Mu hard, but then he felt a lighter in his hand.
In fact, when Kun urged him, Ding Mu had already rushed out of the door with all his strength!
In just a short time, Ding Mu had already figured out that Yi Kuntuo had already shown bad intentions to him. If he resisted, he might not wait for the people outside to take action, and judging from the few moves that Kuntuo had just revealed, he was obviously not a match for this person.
Rather than doing what he said, take the risk and rush out, maybe there is still a chance!
The moment he rushed out of the house, Ding Mu's mind was blank. Although the firearms of this era were still simple and powerful, the first time he was so close to face the fear of death made him numb all over his body, and his body moved his legs and ran forward without hesitation!
A loud thunder-like sound rang out from the darkness!
Ding Mu, who was running, seemed to see a ball of Mars flashing in the darkness of a house on the side. He suddenly rolled forward without thinking. As the wind whistled like a large group of wild bees rushing overhead, it was rolling on the ground. Ding Mu suddenly felt a burning pain on his back.
Am I shot?
Ding Mu's mind suddenly went blank. He didn't know where he was injured, but his momentum was still rolling forward. As his shoulders hit him again, he turned behind a large pile of fishing nets sunken on the open space.
A shout that he couldn't understand came from the darkness, and then two figures appeared from the shadow of the house and ran through the open space in the direction of Ding Mu.
At this moment, Ding Mu seemed to hear a very strange sound, which was like the stirring of a cotton dealer he had seen in his hometown when he was a child. With the sound, the two figures who had just run into the middle of the open space immediately fell to the ground as if they were hitting the wall.
Ding Mu crawled behind the pile of nets and looked in surprise. Although he didn't know what weapon Kuntuo used, he was at least temporarily safe.
He immediately looked around, and Kuntuo obviously regarded him as bait, and now he had to find a way out for himself.
The sound of musket shooting seemed to have finally attracted the attention of the villagers. There were some houses in the dark, but then there was no sound. Obviously, the villagers knew that it was dangerous outside and no one was willing to cause trouble.
Run quickly!
This thought flashed through Ding Mu's mind. He didn't know how many enemies there were hiding in the shadow of the house. Kuntuo killed the two people before obviously not to save him. If an attacker approached from a place where Kuntuo's weapons could not reach, he would definitely not take the risk to save himself.
Ding Mu did not care about the injuries on his back, and felt that he was not seriously injured. He immediately bent down and crawled forward along the edge of the fishing net pile. He had to leave here as soon as possible.
Someone shouted a few words in a language that Ding Mu couldn't understand, and then Kuntuo answered in the same language.
Then, with two dull gunshots, the sound of shouting, cursing and weapons colliding came from the direction of the hotel.
He kept struggling and moving forward. The pain of the clothes rubbing the wound made Ding Mu unable to help but breathe heavily, but his feet did not stop. He knew that it was still very dangerous now. Whether it was Kuntuo or those who won, it would be of no benefit to him.
The battle in the inn seemed to continue. From time to time, you could hear someone screaming because of the injury. This made Ding Mu know that Kuntuo is fine yet, and the sound obviously there were not many people on the other side. This made Ding Mu feel that it was a good thing to be forced to run out by Kuntuo as bait.
But why was there a little shaking in front of me, and my feet became softer and harder, and it became difficult to take a step. Ding Mu gritted his teeth and moved to the alley next to a house not far away, although he didn't know if it would be safer when he got there.
When he reached out to grab the corner of the alley, Ding Mu's legs were almost completely unconscious. His body shook and swayed across the corner, and then collided with a person hiding inside.
Jonnie couldn't help but breathe. He felt that he hadn't thought it was wrong before. He shouldn't have run this business because of greed for the little money. Now looking at Ding Mu who was lying in his arms, he really wanted to just throw this unlucky person down, but another figure suddenly appeared behind Ding Mu.
Jonnini didn't see the other person's appearance clearly, and only had time to see the white shawl on the man's coat swaying in front of him, and was knocked unconscious by the sword's heavy hand guard plate.
In a trance, Ding Mu felt that he was being carried on his shoulders. His head was shaking back and forth, and the wound on his back made him moan. His head was also ramming with something hanging behind the man's waist. His chest was squeezed by his shoulders and he was almost breathless. When he was about to faint, he was thrown to the ground by the man.
Suddenly, the lit torch shone on Ding Mu who was struggling to get up from the ground. He instinctively blocked his eyes with his hands, and then slowly moved away after adapting slightly.
Then I saw clearly the people who attacked him.
These are four men wearing travel cloaks. The clothes similar to most people walking outside today will not attract attention, except that they are holding short swords in their hands at this time.
A voice he couldn't understand came from the top of his head, and Ding Mumi looked upwards.
The short white shawl on the coat made Ding Mu recognize that he was caught by him.
The man said another sentence, but Ding Mu still couldn't understand it very much. Although some of the words sounded similar to the local language he was gradually familiar with, he still puzzled him. Moreover, he was sure that it was not English, and he might not be able to fully understand the English of this era.
"What's going on? Don't you understand what I said?" The other party seemed a little surprised. He asked in local language instead, while he looked up and down for a while with suspicion. Then he turned around and said something to someone beside him in a sarcastic tone.
"I don't know what you are going to do, but I think you misunderstood or recognize the wrong person and treat me as someone else," Ding Mu said carefully. Because he didn't know what these people were going to do, he didn't dare to explain his situation immediately.
And he had a vague premonition that if he proved that he was not someone, perhaps these people would immediately kill him without hesitation.
"It seems that some worries are unnecessary," said the man looking at Ding Mu with a funny look. "But I have to admit that it is not easy to find you."
"I think you really recognized the wrong person."
Ding Mu began to feel something was wrong. He looked at several people with his eyes and found that two of them seemed to be injured. That should be the result of the fight with Kuntuo just now. But what about Kuntuo?
"Are you looking for someone?" The man poked Ding Mu's chest with his hand. "That guy is very powerful. He killed several of us, but that's it. He fell into the sea when he ran away, but if you want to find him, I will help you."
Ding Mu realized the other party's bad intentions. He knew that he was already very dangerous now and that the other party might be unfavorable to him at any time. His brain quickly turned around. After thinking about something, he suddenly spoke: "I am not the person you are looking for. My name is Alexander Juliant Gombrey. I am a Roman. I have evidence!"
"What did you say," the man looked at Ding Mu strangely. "What evidence?"
"I do have evidence," Ding Mu endured the pain of sadness and slowly took out the letter from the dean from his arms and handed it over. "Look at this letter, it is very clear on it. I don't use my name just to facilitate the delivery of the letter."
The man took the letter in confusion and tore open the seal. When he finished reading the content of the letter in the fire, Ding Mu seemed to see something wrong from his joking look at him.
The words that the dean said before suddenly flashed in his heart, which made him realize that he might have been deceived from the beginning!
"Dear Bishop," as if to ridicule Ding Mu, the man said, "I have to regretfully send this student who disappointed me to you for re-education. In view of the sender's personal poor past and some unspeakable behavior that would shame the robe on him, please do not believe everything this person said, especially when he tried to convince others that he was another person out of some whimsical and weird ideas, please do not accept it.
Deception, maybe this man would claim to be Alexander Juliant Kombre from Crete, and would describe you a lot of pitiful life experiences, but allow me to assure you that the man he said is now staying in the Monastery of Saint Sebalon because he was seriously ill, and I believe that it should be some kind of stroke. So please do not believe every word he said, or even every letter. I promise God that this sender is Joel Modillo himself."
Ding Mu listened to the man's sarcastic reading of the letter, and he felt his head start to buzz.
Although he guessed that the dean might have concealed or conspired, he never expected that a big pit would be dug for him before he left Saint Sebalon.
Although he didn't know what the so-called re-education meant, Ding Mu believed that if he really sent such a letter to Palermo, even if he didn't wait for him, it wouldn't be a good thing if he was not the legendary tortures that were extremely perverted.
But even that is better than now, at least it won’t lose your life.
"Now you want to say who you are? Joel Modillo? Alexander Juliant Gombre, or simply say that you are the Roman Emperor?" the man asked sarcastically, slowly raising the sword in his hand.
I'm going to die now? Ding Mu looked at the person in front of him in shock. What's strange is that he didn't feel as scared as before. On the contrary, he felt a sense of "finally being relieved".
Maybe he realized that from the moment he could never go back to his own time, he was looking for this kind of liberation, but he was still unable to make up his mind. When facing danger, he could not give up, but when he was really facing death, he was no longer afraid. Now the person who wanted to kill him might be helping him.
Ding Mu took a deep breath and waited for that moment to arrive.
"You can't do this," the companion next to the man suddenly spoke. "We are just here to find him. How to deal with him shouldn't make a decision. We don't have the power to do this."
The man looked at his companion with surprise, thought for a while, and lowered his voice and said, "You are wrong, let me tell you what power I have."
As he spoke, the short sword in his hand suddenly rushed forward, and the sharp sword body instantly pierced into his companion's lower abdomen!
Just as the other two exclaimed, the man had already drawn his sword and pulled back his left hand to his accomplice's forehead who was already kneeling on the ground. The sword was wiping it horizontally, separating his exposed throat!
"Now, who still questioned my power?" The man pointed his sword at the other two people. Seeing that they finally shook their heads slowly backed up in fear, he turned around and pressed the tip of the sword dripping on Ding Mu's throat. "I have to say, it's my glory to be able to cut your throat..."
"Bang bang!"
Two muffled sounds like thunder suddenly rang out, and with the gunshots, the two people who stood a little further fell down.
Almost at the same time, a dark light flew over from the darkness!
"Puff~"
Even Ding Mu could hear the sound of the arrow piercing into the human body clearly. The man shook his head and fell in front of Ding Mu.
