Chapter 539 Bargaining(1/2)

Can monks and nuns also serve the country?

How to submit the law?

Yuwen Wen was sitting alone in the study room, thinking about this question.

Monks recite scriptures on the battlefield, add "state" to their soldiers, "recover blood"? Or do they impose "negative state" on the enemy?

This is unscientific and impossible, but there are many possibilities.

Therefore, Yu Wenwen, who was "informed and knowledgeable", simplified several "posses".

The most direct way to serve the country is to go to the battlefield.

Therefore, monks were organized into an army, called "Wanzi Army", and launched religious wars against surrounding foreign countries on the grounds of promoting Buddhism and saving sentient beings.

The pattern on the military flag of "Wanzi Army" is of course the Buddhist Wanzi (left-turn). The monks held the 98-type musket wrapped in Buddhist beads, wore distinctive steel helmets, gray-brown military uniforms, combat boots, small jars on their waists, and gas masks on them.

The army composed of monk soldiers was not afraid of life and death. They carried muskets on the battlefield and advanced in line with arrows. After completing several rounds of shooting, they shouted "My Buddha is merciful, save all sentient beings", took a bayonet, and launched a charge.

That scene was very exciting no matter how you think about it.

However, this is impossible.

Improve the plan, organize the monks into an army, the military name and the military flag are the same as the original plan,

The pattern on the military flag is also the Buddhist twelve characters (left-turn). The monks' military equipment is replaced with cold weapons: armor or ring lock armor, spear, bow and arrow, two-handed sword (or one-handed sword and shield), and a burqa with ten-character characters printed on it, and a red (black) talisman on the white background.

This is impossible, because a vegetarian monk may not be physically strong. He wears 20 to 30 kilograms of armor and several kilograms of helmets. Where can he get the extra energy to wield weapons on the battlefield and continue to fight?

The above two ideas are not realistic, and the most critical issue also determines that the court cannot allow monk soldiers to appear: allowing religious believers to form military organizations and exercise combat capabilities, with endless troubles.

So, is it feasible to not allow monks to participate in the war, but act as monks with the army to pray to the soldiers, answer questions, relieve their feelings, and save the fallen people?

This method looks good. A monk followed the army to provide "psychological counseling" to the soldiers, which is good from the perspective of military management.

However, with a long-term subtle influence, Buddhism's penetration into the army will become increasingly greater, and there will be endless troubles.

The army cannot be infiltrated by others, regardless of Buddhism, Taoism or "vibrant social organizations". This is the principle. The army's loyalty must be the emperor and the generals appointed by the emperor, the hawks and minions of the court, rather than the "protective" of the gods and Buddhas and the monastic community.

If you can't fight or follow the army, then let the monasteries set up various charitable institutions and do good deeds, this is also a good choice for maintaining social harmony.

However, letting go of others to such things that buy people's hearts, those who become emperors are too lazy to even buy people's hearts. They are so heartless that they are not afraid that the story of Taipingdao will repeat in the future. The world is full of wars, and "The sky is dead, should the yellow sky stand?"

Since ancient times, the imperial power (king power) has been greater than the educational power. Yuwen Wen felt that if he had a mess, he would have the opportunity to get involved in the army, and he might be the second Emperor Wu of Liang.

He became a prisoner at an age and lamented before his death: "Why do you hate me if I get it, and if I lose it?"

Therefore, Yuwen Wen felt that the best way for monks and nuns to serve their lives is not as good as most people who go thousands of miles away to save the native Americans. This is the best way.

However, if you really want to do this, there will probably be a fire in the harem.

Yuwen Wen's pitiful appearance appeared in his mind. Thinking about the other party's efforts to "use softness to overcome hardness" and use tears to break up his non-existent decision to destroy the Buddha's destruction.

Looking back on this scene, Yu Wenwen felt a little sad, coughed dryly, retracted his thoughts, and looked at the memorial in his hand.

He used the reading notes after reading "Book of Liang" as a means to criticize Buddhism for several months, and now he finally found the results.

The monks gathered in Yecheng and officials who were dedicated to protecting the (Buddhist) religion, after several "negotiations", they finally "have offered a price".

1. Monks and nuns can also serve the country, share the worries of the emperor, request "to be the king's advance", be willing to obey the arrangements of the court, and do their part to strengthen the country and enrich the people.

2. Over the years, scum has indeed damaged the reputation of Buddhism. Therefore, everyone (the monks of all sects) hopes that the court will further strengthen the management of Buddhist temples, monks and nuns, and all sects will actively cooperate.

3. Everyone expressed deep regret for the difficulties of the Liang Kingdom in Taiqing, and realized that many monks did not practice enough that they misunderstand the meaning of Buddhist scriptures, which led to the rulers, ministers and people of Liang Kingdom astray.

Therefore, everyone asked the court to give a chance to make up for the loss of sheep, and let all sects rebuild the famous Waguan Temple on the ruins of Jiankang City in Jiangzhou. Then the monks would recite scriptures in the temple day and night, pray for the people of Jiangnan who died in that year and save them.

At the same time, erecting monuments in front of the temple to record the events, and make reflections on the events of that year public to warn future generations.

This is a statement (bidding), and then there are detailed measures (development) in the memorial to show everyone's loyalty to the emperor and patriotism and reform their mistakes.

The detailed measures for the first article are: various sects are willing to send monks, like the Bailian Sect, to Nanzhong, Xihai, Hetao, and Liaodong, to assist local governments in educating the people and pray for the local people to eliminate disasters and pray for them.

All Buddhist temples (including nun temples) abide by the existing and upcoming systems of the court, and check the temple property, the number of monks, nuns and tenants again, and pay the taxes that should be paid according to the corresponding system regulations of the court.

All Buddhist temples strictly abide by the ban and will never engage in lending activities such as "monkshu", nor will they operate quality warehouses (pawn shops) or customs stores.

The government will unconditionally adopt abandoned babies or orphans (female), boys, and girls in the future whether they are ordained or become monks.

All sects want to select talented and intelligent people to practice the way of chemistry and physics to relieve the worries of the court and benefit the people.

There are no detailed measures for Article 2, but all sects will actively cooperate with the court to manage Buddhist affairs and obey the court's arrangements.

Regarding the detailed measures of Article 3, let alone whether the Waguan Temple is rebuilt and whether the court agrees to this solution, all sects will hold long-term rituals in their ancestral courts (the temples that opened the sect) to pray for the people of Liang who died that year and save them.

At the same time, the various sects jointly drafted a statement, which was reviewed by the Department and then published in newspapers published by major metropolitan newspapers, expressing their attitude towards the events of that year and giving an explanation to the people of the world.

What is the core idea of this explanation?

It was "The monks of Liang State were not practicing enough in general and failed to prevent the tragedy from happening."

Yuwen put down the memorial and picked up the teacup to drink tea.

The candle burned silently on the side, and his face was shaking with the candlelight.

Of course, monks are not qualified to write memorials. At present, this memorial was signed by the Buddhist officials headed by Xiao Yu, a scholar of the Secretariat. The content of the memorial was of course solicited the opinions of monks from various sects, and finally the final draft was finalized.

Can't it be seen that the emperor is striking Buddhism with Xiao Yu and other officials?

It should be seen that these officials did not dare to take risks because they were not sure whether the emperor would make a decision to change the "whip" to "beheading".

Just as the monks of various sects of Buddhism, facing the current situation, they may be like a stubborn donkey, without bowing their heads, and without expressing their opinions, and regard the pressure of imperial power as a "catastrophe", silently bear it, and treat it as the tempering given by the Buddha.

The monks probably don’t think there is much difference between Yuwen Wen and other emperors. When Emperor Wu of Zhou “built virtue and destroy Buddhism”, Buddhism has taken over. Therefore, the monks also feel that after “bright virtue and destroy Buddhism”, Buddhism will still usher in spring.

However, Xiao Yu and other officials knew that the emperor was very good, so they did not dare to take the risk of betting on whether the emperor would use the "scam of households" and make Central Plains Buddhism doomed.

Therefore, during this period, while the officials who worship Buddha have been constantly making "complaints" and constantly analyzing the interests of monks from various sects.

When the imperial power began to "sharpen the knife and turn to Buddhism", people from all sects of Buddhism in the Central Plains and officials worshipping Buddhism finally reached a consensus under the strong desire to survive, bowed to the imperial power, and asked for an opportunity to show off and make up for the loss.

This memorial was only achieved after countless people's efforts.

A thought can determine the honor and disgrace of countless people. This kind of supreme power makes people fascinated.

Yuwen Wen put down the teacup, closed his eyes, and opened it after a while.

When doing things, try to avoid being complacent, otherwise problems will occur easily. Even if you become the emperor, you should keep it in mind.

He picked up the memorial and looked again.

The other party has "offered", so how should he bargain?

The first thing Yuwen Wen’s “expected quote” is to strengthen the management of Buddhism to avoid the uncontrollable increase in the number of Buddhist temples and monks and nuns, which will affect national tax revenue.

Avoid the large-scale donation of wealthy families, which makes the temple rich and powerful, and then engage in land annexation and raise a large number of farmers, which will turn into a cancer.

Buddhist temples are prohibited from doing business and lending, so as to avoid excessive extravagance and desire in the size of Buddhist temples, and to prevent the Buddha from being stolen, resulting in a large amount of copper materials being cast into Buddha statues and worshipped.

Secondly, monks and nuns cannot have "extraordinary power" because the king's Dharma is greater than the Buddhist Dharma, but considering all aspects of the matter, it is necessary to "refine the law enforcement".

Of course, the king's law is the greatest, but the various sects of Central Plains Buddhism must reach a consensus within themselves and formulate a set of "clear rules and regulations" that monks and nuns of all sects must abide by.

In this way, if monks and nuns only violate the Buddhist rules and regulations, they will be dealt with by their own temple or sect.

If a monk or nun has a dispute with the people, or if he violates the king's law, the king's law will naturally be managed.

Third, it doesn’t matter if monks and nuns don’t serve the country, and the court does not lack this kind of person. However, if Buddhist temples want to receive preferential treatment, such as tax reductions, more official “financial appropriations”, and various benefits, they have to show sincerity.

What is sincerity?

As the emperor, there is no need to think about such details. Naturally, there are pawns such as Fu Yi and others to "bargain". Yuwen Wen just needs to grasp the degree.

Now, according to the content in the memorial, the "quotation" (sincerity) given by the other party is still in line with Yuwen Wen's expected goals.

The most important point is to give an explanation to his questions (invasion).

In the Taiqing period (the rebellion of Hou Jing), Emperor Wu of Liang, who worshipped Buddhism, could not have a good end, and the people of Liang, who worshipped Buddhism, were destroyed. Even if that was more than 60 years ago, Central Plains Buddhism must have an explanation on this.

The saying goes: the monks in Liang State did not practice enough and were unable to prevent the tragedy from happening.

This statement must be widely publicized, so now all Buddhist sects are preparing to issue statements together, expressing deep regrets about what happened that year and need to reflect on it deeply.

This move is probably the bottom line for the concessions of various Buddhist sects. After all, to maintain the face of the ancestors and the reputation of Buddhism. If you make concessions, the other party will no longer have to promote Buddhism in the Central Plains. Since Yuwen Wen did not intend to destroy the Buddha, he did not intend to force him to continue.

So, it's time to end.

While thinking, Empress Yuchi Chifan entered and personally brought him a midnight snack.

Yuwen Wen felt a little apologized when he saw Yuchi Chifan's slightly sad eyes and his former starry eyes were dim.

Yuchi Chifan was worried that he would offend the Buddha and would not die well, and even went to hell after his death. Yuwen Wen was very clear about this, but it was difficult to use "popular science" to crack this "supercreation".

He signaled Yuchi Chifan to sit beside him and asked, "Why don't you sleep? It's so late."

"I'm here to see Erlang stay up late, so I'll take a look."

"Oh, the business is busy, so it's not enough not to stay up late... Now, the Buddhist matter has come to an end."

Yuwen Wen shook the memorial, of course, Yuchi Chifan could not take it over and read it. He was nervous and asked Qiqiai Ai Ai: "Erlang, then..."

"Strengthen management and clean up people who are mixed with fish eyes, so as to avoid scum who cheat everywhere under the banner of Buddhism and make money."

"That's it...it's fine..." Yuchi Chifan murmured, calming down a little. She was afraid that Yu Wen Wen would get angry and would destroy the Buddha, so she had been worried for a while.
To be continued...
