002. The Future - Conversation in the Police Car

The police car drove slowly on the snowy road.

The wiper automatically swings every once in a while, sweeping away the snow water on the car window glass, making the road in front of you clearer.

Tom held the steering wheel and tapped his fingers gently. The fast-paced rap music came from the radio, which was also his favorite music style.

However, after driving for a while, he turned his head to look at Qiao Xue sitting in the passenger seat. She just stood her chin like that, looking at the snowy sky outside the window without saying a word.

"Hey, hey, it's rare to come out with me to handle the case. Do I feel that disgusting to you? I heard that China has been open for a long time, right? Are Chinese women still so conservative?"

Tom's words made Qiao Xue stunned for a moment, and then turned around.

She looked at Tom as if she was out of sight. After a while, Qiao Xue nodded gently, stretched her waist, and pinched her neck.

"Nothing, I just remembered some things from the past. But Tom, have you ever come into contact with a lot of Chinese women?"

Seeing that Qiao Xue finally began to smile and talk, Tom finally breathed a sigh of relief, raised his eyebrows, and smiled and said, "Oh, to be honest, I feel a little nervous when I contact you Chinese. Because my mother often tells me that you Chinese are all mysterious and have a lot of strange powers. And each one is very capable of fighting."

Qiao Xue laughed out loud. Such laughter made Tom feel a little embarrassed.

"Oh~oh~oh~~my cute Tom. Don't tell me that you have been so many New York police officers and have never entered Chinatown and dealt with us Chinese?"

Tom shrugged and said, "This is not. But I tell you, Snow. Every time I try to sit in a police car and try to leave quickly before something goes wrong! My mom often tells me that you Chinese call themselves 'descendants of some kind of terrifying ancient beast'. It's like a druid! It claims to have the power of animals and nature. Or a very strange shamanism, with some ancient worship of their ancestors. This worship can give you strength. A child even raises his hand and can stop a speeding police car with just brute force. Are you afraid? "

Qiao Xue shook her head and smiled bitterly.

She didn't know how she should explain the four words "the successor of the dragon". Or, this was not a phrase that could be explained well.

However, imagine the Chinese people’s self-proclaimed “successors of the dragon” as a druid or shamanic sect… Well… when you think about it this way, it seems to be a little similar?

"It seems that your mother has instilled you with a lot of strange concepts about us Chinese. What else is there?"

When the police car encountered a red light, Tom slowly stepped on the brakes and said with a smile: "There are many more. For example, Chinese people can make people vomit blood through space, and Chinese people can fly over the eaves and walk on the walls, like Spider-Man. Moreover, you have a lot of ‘Superman’. Many people can fly around in the sky. By the way, snow, I have a question that I have always wanted to ask. Come to our United States for police training. In fact, can you fly directly over? I heard that you have a magical power in China called... called... (immature Chinese) 'Rain See Gray Letter'?"

Qiao Xue patted the car door and cursed with a smile: "That's called (Chinese) 'Flying on the Sword'. But your imagination is really big enough. OK. During my time in the United States, I will try my best to tell you some culture and stories about China. I hope you can come to China in the future, and I will definitely treat you well at that time."

Tom stepped on the accelerator and the police car continued to move on the snow-covered road.

He laughed and said, "This is good! Ah, I can't tell. Actually, you are still a very good person to chat with? We used to divide the work and cooperate, but I didn't know that it was quite pleasant to go on a mission with you."

Qiao Xue continued to hold her head up and smiled, "Do I give you such a rigid impression?"

Tom: "Of course!"

He turned a corner and said seriously-

"You have always been serious and look full of mysterious aura. Do you know? When you just came to our aphorism study, we privately bet that you must be the legendary 'mysterious Chinese'! We also bet that as long as you can actively chat with anyone, whoever you will win fifty dollars. As a result, I won!"

Qiao Xue couldn't help but dig her mouth and smiled. It seemed that her usual behavior was really too cold. Ah... But, she seemed to have been so cold in recent years. When did her personality become like this? I remembered that I went to find someone if I had something to do... and even chatted with strangers...

"By the way, Xue, I never knew that your fighting ability was so good. I heard that when you were in China, you once subdued three strong drug dealers alone? Don't use a pistol?"

Chatting with Tom is actually quite good. This person likes to joke and is an optimistic person. As for the relationship between men and women... the American sexual concept is indeed relatively open, and this cannot be said to be very unique.

Qiao Xue nodded, and Tom seemed even more excited when he saw her nodding.

Tom: "Sure enough! You're really amazing! How did you do it?"

Qiao Xue shrugged: "Maybe the concept of our Chinese police and your American police is different. Our Chinese police is to 'substitute crime'. When we encounter criminals, we emphasize standing up and protecting the lives and property of ordinary people. Your American police is to 'protect yourself'. When we encounter criminals, we first have the concept of protecting our own safety, and then protecting citizens. Of course, I am not saying that the two concepts are better and have their advantages and disadvantages. How to integrate them is one of my goals for further study."

Tom loosened the throttle a little, "So, is it different ideas?"

Qiao Xue said after "Yeah—" for a while, "Maybe there is another point, it's influenced by my father."

Tom: "Oh? Your father?"

Qiao Xue continued to look at the snow outside the window and said slowly: "Yes. My father was a killer. He told me that when facing life and death, the first thing I must remember is definitely not the police force rules, but whether I can really have the belief of wanting to kill the other party. Although I was one-on-three, at that time, maybe it was because I obviously wanted to kill them far stronger than them, so I successfully knocked them down. In other words, I was much stronger than them in terms of momentum."

"It's so cool!" Tom slapped the steering wheel and shook his head. "Is my father a killer? Is the murderous intention? It sounds like a Saturday night popcorn movie! Where is your mother? Don't tell me what your mother is also a special identity!"

The police car roared past, but Qiao Xue leaned on the car window, showing unexpected silence about Tom's problem.

After driving a street, Tom realized that Qiao Xue hadn't answered for a long time. He seemed a little embarrassed, and the atmosphere in the police car was a little cold, not as relaxed as before.

"Ah... I'm sorry if I've heard about your **."

Tom lowered his head and apologized.

“……………………………No, I was trance.”

Qiao Xue held her arms, rubbed her, and continued to look out the car window. She watched the falling snowflakes be brought up by the breath of the vehicle passing through, and made a whirlpool in the air, as if she was pulled by something, flying backwards.

"My mother... is a very ordinary woman. She is very simple and kind. She is not good at lying, but she is the best mother in the world."

Tom nodded: "I can understand this. I believe she will be proud of you, her daughter!"

A bitter smile appeared on Qiao Xue's lips.

"No...I don't think she will be proud of me."

Tom was stunned and didn't quite understand: "What does it mean?"

"It means..."

Qiao Xue shook her head, with a little sadness in her eyes, which made the snow outside reflected in her pupils and whizzed by--

"If it weren't for her death, I wouldn't have tried to become a detective and try to investigate the cause of her death."

Tom next to him exclaimed softly.

"Yes. My mother, Xia Yu. She died twelve years ago on a snowy day that was as snowy as today."
