Chapter 291 Lou Guan Dao

Li Xiao raised a banner to recruit workers at Zhongwei Bridge, and soon passed on to Chang'an City.

After all, Zhongwei Bridge is one of the necessary roads north of Chang'an, and is close to Chang'an, so the news spreads quickly.

In Tai Chi Palace, after hearing the Baiqisi report, Li Zhi just smiled slightly, "I have been busy these days, but I have forgotten Li Xiao and his printing office. I guess he is very unhappy if he promised him to use the money he had 300,000 yuan."

Wu clasped his stomach and smiled and said to her husband, "Li Sanlang is very capable. If His Majesty doesn't give him money, it will be difficult for him. You see, without your inner-domestic money, Li Xiao would not still raise the recruitment flag. He borrowed money from the corporate office of the Corn Supervision to recruit hungry people, and began to build a printing office workshop, doing a colorful job."

The court used work instead of relief to more and more hungry people outside the capital, while Li Xiao also began to use work instead of relief, which was no slower than the court. Even before the court began to recruit refugees to build palaces, Li Xiao started first.

"I also issued an order to the general craftsmen and Shaofu Temple to draw some craftsmen over. Li Xiao has a civil servant, but the craftsmen and craftsmen still have to transfer some craftsmen."

Wu said with a smile, "Li Xiao borrowed money from the Corn Supervisor from the Public Security Bureau, and his annual profit was twice as high. I still had a few thousand guan here, which was just enough to lend it to the Printing Bureau for profit."

"Aren't you afraid of losing money?"

"Li Xiao is very capable of making money, how can he lose money? Look at him, he is in charge of the Corn Supervision, so he just brings the Corn Supervision, Yu Xiao's profits a lot?"

Li Zhi snorted, "Li Xiao secretly sold a lot of corn seeds on my back, and thought I didn't know, but I knew that he was not greedy for ink, so I was too lazy to pursue it."

"Your Majesty, the water is clear and there is no fish. Li Xiao is a person who can do things. Why bother with some details?"

Li Zhi nodded. He was also a person who believed in Li Xiao's ability. Unfortunately, he used Li Xiao to beat the old gentry's face last time, making him a thorn in the gentry's side. Otherwise, Li Zhi would have planned to let Li Xiao, the secretary, come to take charge of the young prison.

"Since my beloved concubines are willing to take out their own makeup money, I will make up some more and get 5,000 guan for Li Xiao. If I have too many, I can't get it out."

There are so many things happening now. Although Li Yifu proposed to issue 2 million bonds, the money was useful long ago. It was used to repair the Daming Palace with labor instead of relief. Li Zhi had no remaining money to Li Xiao for the time being. Originally, he planned to suspend the printing office's printing plan, but when he saw that Li Xiao could still hold on, he planned to take a look.

By Zhongwei Bridge.

Princess Lantian, Tamase, came on a horse wearing a Taoist robe. Behind her, there were several ox carts.

"Sanlang, I heard that you are here to provide porridge to help the victims, so I will send you some food."

Li Xiao was a little surprised to see the sudden arrival of Yuse.

Looking at the bags of food on the ox cart, I was even more moved. This year, Yuse was also a victim of the disaster, and her fiefdom was handed over to Li Xiao for management. Originally, Li Xiao also said that he would guarantee him the harvest of the fief, but it ended up with a major disaster. Yuse took the initiative to exempt the banners from the summer rent, which could be regarded as the loss of Li Xiao.

After all, it was originally agreed that the princess handed over the rent and taxes of the enclosed households to Li Xiao for management and confiscating them. Li Xiao gave the princess a fixed amount of rent and taxes, and the princess used 20% of the income as Li Xiao's reward. But this year, the enclosed households only had about 20% of the gains, so how could they pay the full rent?

But because Li Xiao is chartering, Li Xiao originally had to bear the loss.

But the princess exempted the banned households from rent and tax, which saved Li Xiao from losses, otherwise the loss would be significant.

The princess confiscated a grain of grain this summer, and all the food she brought from the ox cart was her own grain in the princess' manor.

"Thank you, Princess. I'll ask you to write an IOU. This is what our printing office borrows you."

"What else do you want to write an IOU, just a little bit of food."

"It's not a little bit, the food is expensive now." Li Xiao sighed. As a large number of hungry people rushed towards Chang'an, the food pressure in Chang'an was not a little bit high, and the food price was rising steadily.

Even if the imperial court kept releasing grain, it could not afford to catch up with the rising grain prices.

"The food is not all mine. I will introduce you to a few good people." Tamase said with a smile. At this time, several people came out behind her, all of whom were wearing Taoist uniforms.

"This is Master Chen from Louguan Dao in Chang'an, and fellow Taoists from Louguan Dao."

The person who is called Taoist Chen is an old man about fifty years old. He is tall and elegant. He has a long beard and a Taoist robe. He holds a whisk in his hand, but has a sword on his back.

Li Xiao also knew a little about Louguan Taoism. After all, there are many Taoist temples in Chang'an City, and the biggest and most famous one is naturally Louguan Taoism. This was the Taoist temple respected by Emperor Gaozu Li Yuan at that time. It was specially invited by the royal family to build Taoist temples for them.

In fact, when it comes to Lou Guan Dao, we have to talk about the development and changes of Taoist organizational forms.

During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Taoist system gradually emerged. Before that, the Taoist officials and Taoist people of the Five Doks of Rice had houses dedicated to self-blame and repentance, called Jingshi, or Jingshi. The quiet room set up by Taoist officials of a certain level in their homes was called Zhi, which probably related to the Taoist officials governing Taoist people.

There are different levels of governance. The twenty-four governance directly controlled by the Tianshi is equivalent to the office location in the administrative area, but it is just some thatched huts or tile house buildings.

These governances are also the prototypes of Chinese Taoist palace architecture.

The Five Doks of Rice Dao stipulates that the Dao people will be convened on several specific days every year, with the twenty-four rule as the center, to hold activities to worship ancestors, pay taxes on the Dao rice, and register population. This organizational structure is also an activity they use to govern the Taoist disciples.

Later, Taoist temples emerged, and Taoism also moved from the state of secrets among the people to the public and officialization of society.

The gyms built in the city mainly rely on the supply of the court and the alms and support of the nobles and wealthy people, and a small part comes from the income from doing rituals for others.

Some of the Taoist temples in the local area have households assigned to the government. Most of these households are scattered near the gym, cultivating land for the gym, and Taoist priests also work. The highest-ranking museum owners are in charge of all the property owned by the hall, including real estate, and gradually become part of the feudal monks and landlord class.

The rise of Taoist temples made the organizational form of Tianshidao, which was originally characterized by the sacrificial system, weakened.

Louguandao belongs to the Gongguan School in the Taoist temple.

According to Lou Guan Dao, their ancestor was Yin Xi. This was the Hangu Pass Order during the Western Zhou Dynasty. He once built grass to form a tower in the north of Zhongnan Mountain and watched the stars and qi at night. This is also the origin of the name of Lou Guan. Later, Lao Tzu rode a young man through Hangu Pass, and Xi welcomed Lao Tzu to Lou Guan, learned Taoism from him, and taught Tao Te Ching. Later, Yin Xi became an immortal in Lou Guan Dao.

Of course, this statement is actually the deification of Lou Guandao's sect.

In fact, the real history of Lou Guan Tao began during the Wei and Jin Dynasties. It was originally a Taoist priest named Liang Kan, who brought his apprentice Wang Jia to live in seclusion in Zhongnan Mountain to practice Taoism.

Later Wang Jia passed on to Sun Che, Sun Che passed on to Ma Jian, Ma Jian passed on to Yin Tong, and then to Yin Faxing, Niu Wenhou and others. Niu Wenhou passed on to Wang Daoyi, which lasted until the Sui and Tang Dynasties and was incorporated into Quanzhen Dao in the Yuan Dynasty.

From the Wei and Jin Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, many famous Taoist priests emerged from the descendants of the Louguan Dao. After their activities, the ruling class of the current dynasty often gave Louguan Dao generous treatment and rewarded a large amount of money, land and households for service. The Taoist civic buildings of Louguan Dao were continuously added and repaired, and gradually became the largest Taoist center in the north at this time.

The Louguan Dao combines the classic doctrines of various sects and widely attracts teachings from various sects in the south and north. What they focus most on preaching is the story of the Taishang Laojun teaching the joyful Tao Te Scripture, and the two went to the Western Regions to transform into Hu and become Buddhas.

It can be said that Louguan Taoism was the most important Taoist sect that emerged after the Heavenly Master Taoism and was the most important Taoist sect in the Tang Dynasty.

The story of Yin Xihua becoming Hu is actually quite interesting.

Buddhism originated in India and is also called the Hu religion in the Central Plains. It is an alien culture. Its introduction will inevitably encounter resistance from local Chinese culture.

In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, when Xiang Kai recommended the Taiping Sutra to the emperor, he said, "I may say that Lao Tzu entered the barbarians and became a Buddha." The Buddha is a Buddha, which is just that Lao Tzu went to a "foreign country" and became a Buddha, which is different from Lao Tzu's statement of becoming a Buddha. Whether Lao Tzu became a Buddha or passed on Buddhism to them in order to educate the Hu people, who was the first to propose this statement. Today, it is not clear. Perhaps when Buddhism was first introduced, Buddhism deliberately preached it in order to smoothly preach.

Composed this kind of statement, which means that our Buddhism was also introduced by Lao Tzu in China, and Lao Tzu in China was also Buddha, so don’t treat us as the “Hu Sect”. But later, Taoism liked to mention this matter the most. At the end of the Western Jin Dynasty, Wang Fu, the priest of the Five Doks of Rice, specially compiled the “Hu Sutra” to promote this story, belittle Buddhism, and describe Buddhism Sakyamuni as Lao Tzu’s disciple to elevate his status. Your Buddhism was still passed down by our ancestors, so what’s so great about it!

After Buddhism became more powerful, it also confronted the scriptures and compiled the story of the Buddha sending the Confucian Bodhisattva Confucius, Guangjing Bodhisattva Yan Yuan and Mahakasyapa Laozi to preach to China. Confucius, Yan Yuan and Laozi, who were worshipped by the Chinese, were all called the Buddhist disciples.

Taoism attacks Buddhism assassination, becoming monks, not getting married, and not having offspring. It is said that the reason why I set up these teachings and laws for the Hu people that are not in line with Chinese ethics and human ethics is that they see that the Hu people are too barbaric and uncivilized, and want them to be extinct, so that they will not marry men and women. If a country believes in Buddhism, it will naturally perish. Seeing that the other party is so rude and rude, Buddhism also speaks against each other and strongly denounces Taoism's practice of arts and rituals, and pretends to be evil. The two religions attack each other in order to overwhelm each other, and to win the support of the ruler to expand their own power.

Emperor Taiwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty destroyed Buddhism and Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty destroyed Buddhism were actually the ruling class that was dissatisfied with the fact that Buddhism was too powerful, and with the support of the two schools of Buddhism and Taoism, they encircled Buddhism.

Buddhism flourished during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, but it also led to the destruction of Buddhism several times. Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty Li Yuan even had the intention to destroy Buddhism when he was in power. However, in the Xuanwu Gate Incident, Li Yuan became the Supreme Emperor. In order to stabilize the hearts of the people and gain support, Li Shimin, the newly succeeded throne, abolished Li Yuan's decree to destroy Buddhism.

But after all, after all, the Li family called themselves Laozi, they certainly wanted to support Taoism.

At the beginning of the founding of the country, Li Yuan invited Lou Guan Dao to Chang'an and established a huge Lou Guan Dao Temple for them in Chang'an City.

Lou Guandao has a respectable status and is rich. They have a lot of land under their name, and there are also a large number of people assigned to them. They specialize in farming and working for them, becoming unsuccessful households in the court.

Rich Taoist priests like to spread porridge and food when they encounter famine. This is actually just a behavior that wins people's hearts and competes for faith with monks.

Back then, Emperor Taiwu of Wei destroyed Buddhism, ordered hundreds of thousands of monks and nuns to return to secular life, and destroyed the Buddhas and temples. When Emperor Wu of Zhou came again, the monks quickly found the Northern Qi, the opponent of Northern Qi. Under the instigation of the monks, Emperor Wen of Qi issued an edict to abolish the Taoist road and ordered all Taoist priests to shave their hair and become monks. Those who did not comply would be beheaded, which made no Taoist priests left in Northern Qi at that time.

This was a strange and strange thing at that time. The Northern Zhou Dynasty in the west destroyed the Buddha and drove all the monks and nuns down the mountain, allowing them to get married and have children. The Northern Qi in the east simply asked all the Taoists to shave their hair off and become monks.

When the Sui Dynasty ruled the world, the Sui Dynasty respected Buddhism. After all, Emperor Wen of Sui was born in a Buddhist temple and was even raised by a nun when he was a child.

But in the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu of Tang admired Taoism again and recognized Laozi as the ancestor of the Li family.

In fact, the rise of the Tao of Louguan was the time when Emperor Taiwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty deliberately praised it to destroy Buddhism and suppressed Buddhism with Tao. It was from that time that Louguan officially formed a considerable number of Taoist sects with great influence on the court and the country. In the Tang Dynasty, Louguan Dao reached its peak after decades of respect from Li Tang.

Lou Guandao is very rich. Li Xiao looked at the trucks of food. He thought it was too much, but now he thinks it is too little.

The old Taoist Chen seemed to feel Li Xiao’s meaning and explained with a smile, “We will return to Chang’an from Zhongnan Mountain. We will meet the eldest princess on the way and come by.”

It is said that under the leadership of Taoist Qi Hui, Lou Guan Dao vigorously sponsored Li Yuan's uprising army, and gave him a lot of money and grain, and even made great efforts in public opinion propaganda. Therefore, after Li Yuan became the emperor, he was particularly fond of Lou Guan Dao. At the beginning of Wude, he ordered the construction of Lou Guan Gongyu and granted thousands of acres of land to fill the foundation. Later, he issued an order to change Lou Guan to Zong Sheng Temple, taking Qi Hui as the main temple, and gave countless millet and silk to fill the food.

When Li Yuan and Li Shimin and his son were reigned, they went to Louguan several times to worship Laozi. Qi Hui died in the fourth year of Zhenguan. Taoist Yin Wencao was appointed as the master of Haotian Temple and the master of the sages of the sect. Yin Wencao followed the decree of Li Shimin and ordered the author of the "Saint Records of Emperor Xuanyuan", which consisted of ten volumes and a hundred chapters. Later, he wrote thirty volumes of "The Theory of the Deception" and "The Theory of the Demons" and "The Biography of the Master Louguan".

This Taoist Chen is Yin Shicao's junior brother.

When Li Xiao heard this, he immediately thought of a way to make money.

"Master Chen, do you need to print scriptures? My printing office has just opened, and I will give you a special offer. I will print 3,000 copies of the Tao Te Ching, and only 500 s are charged for you. How about it?"

A Tao Te Ching can only be printed in five thousand words, and one copy can be printed. Twenty editions are enough. Printing 3,000 copies costs less than 200 guan, and collecting 500 guan, that is double the money.

It just happened to be practiced with them, not to mention that Lou Guandao is so rich, if this order is done well, there will be large orders in the future.

These days, monks and Taoist priests are much richer than government officials.

"Three thousand books of Tao Te Ching cost only five coins?" The Taoist Master Chen obviously did not know how to do business. When he heard the price, he thought of the cheaper, and couldn't help but exclaim. He asked a copyist to copy the Tao Te Ching, but the 3,000 books were less than two thousand coins, and printing was only one-fourth, which was indeed cost-effective.

Master Chen was moved.

These days, although Lou Guan Tao has been respected by the royal family, the power of Buddhism has always been very strong, and the struggle between Buddhism and Taoism has never stopped. Lou Guan Tao, as the strongest Taoist sect in Taoism, thinks that they have also shouldered the important mission of attacking Buddhism.

In addition to winning the support of the court, it is also very important to obtain more support among the people, and spreading Taoist scriptures more often is an important method.

The Tao Te Ching is the Taoist classic that Lou Guandao believes most.

"Secretary Li's words are serious?"
