Chapter 736 Losing me in Lang Son

The more than 30,000 people in the Beijing camp led by Zhang Fu and other generals, carrying a large number of firearms. They first rode the Chaohu Navy's warship and moved to Guilin Mansion. The waterway was nearly 3,000 miles, and it took more than a month and a half. If it weren't for the establishment of rivers and waterways, the Ming army would have only taken longer to walk.

Pei Youzhen took the imperial edict to call the local governments to summon a large number of corvee-service men, ships, and water and land, and sent the belongings of the officers and soldiers of the Beijing camp to Nanning Prefecture. In Nanning Prefecture, everyone received tens of thousands of military troops recruited from Guangxi and Guangdong, and continued to march towards Annan Kingdom.

It was already mid-September when the army passed through the original border and it was already the time to seize Yiguan (Youyiguan).

According to the seasons in Annan, the dry season entered last month; and the dry season was divided into cool season and hot season. Among them, the cool season is undoubtedly the most comfortable season. As the name suggests, it is cool and not hot, and the roads are dry and easy to walk, and there are fewer diseases and insects. This cool season only has some months in autumn and winter, three or four months. However, the Ming army will spend more than a month on the road.

This is impossible. The time between the court's decision-making and dispatching troops was short enough; if we missed this year's dry season, we could only wait for more than a year.

Liu Sheng followed Zhang Fu and rushed up a hillside. He saw that Zhang Fu's face was not very good, but he didn't know if it was a waste of time.

But perhaps it was Liu Sheng himself who was unhappy. Along the way, Liu Sheng always felt that Zhang Fu's words were a bit choking.

At this time, Liu Sheng didn't say anything to avoid making things boring. The generals looked south together, and there was still a little mist on the ground, but you could see it when standing on a high place. There was a small basin there; there was a forest around, and there was only a slightly flat place in front.

"Zhiling." A general said.

But that was the name of the Annan people. Now the Ming army gave it a new name: Lang San Wei.

From the Central Plains dynasty to Annan, the east and west roads are closer to Guangxi than to Yunnan; and from Guangxi, it is the Honghe Plain area, and the horse is flat. Therefore, there is a proverb among the people of Annan: If you lose me, you will lose the world.

Having said that, Annan has never set up a relatively large system here. No one knows what happened; perhaps because of the supply problem, it is difficult for the Annan government to maintain it for a long time?

The surrounding mountainous areas live in the Yao, Miao and other tribes, and they often rebel; Annan Kingdom is also a place with many young people, and it is difficult for them to receive enough taxes from young people.

However, as soon as the Ming Emperor Zhu Gaoxu ascended the throne, he immediately issued an order to set up a guard in Lang Son. The Ming Dynasty government not only dispatched troops from Dongguan (also known as Shenglong, now Hanoi) to cultivate land and build cities here; it also built post roads, set up official shops, post stations, and fort systems, and allowed Annan Governor's Office and Guangxi Administration and the Guangxi Administration Commission to supply the place along the post road regardless of losses.

Liu Sheng walked along the way and stood on the hillside for a while and looked at the map. Not only did he feel that there was a person who was the commander of the army to be an emperor, at least it would be much easier to fight. Only those who could fight did not need to seek the opinions of the ministers, and he would understand where the military strategists were important.

However, Liu Sheng did not say it because Zhang Fu was still not very happy. The commander looked at the mountains and rivers and the army on the post road with a serious expression. His expression made people a little afraid and dared not act rashly.

The Ming army at the foot of the mountain, including the garrison troops and the baggage battalion soldiers, had a total force of only tens of thousands, but the march on the post road between the mountains and forests was still very grand, and the vast team could not be seen.

The mountains and forests on all sides were very quiet. The Ming army controlled the entire area and there was no accident in the march. Only the movement of the army was inexplicably shrouded in a sense of majesty and solemnity.

The footsteps of the infantry and riders were like some kind of musical instrument ensemble, maintaining a uniform rhythm, and moving neatly in the sound of cowhide drums. Donkey carts, wheelbarrows, and the army seemed to fill the entire valley, and the mist and dust in the air were mixed together like clouds.

Zhang Fu seemed to be unable to help it, turned to Liu Sheng and said, "Our army is not sufficient. Marquis An Yuan really came up with a brilliant idea in front of the emperor, and he also had more than 20,000 troops."

The old man finally told the unhappiness in his heart. Liu Sheng had guessed that this was the case, but he couldn't confirm it. Now he was very happy.

It turned out that Liu Sheng thought that his personal relationship with Zhang Fu was good. After all, he fought against the Han Wangjun and surrendered together. He usually had contacts with each other for whatever his family did. However, Liu Sheng suddenly felt that all friendship was just wishful thinking; in Zhang Fu's heart, military merit was the most important.

Perhaps last year, Liu Sheng made great contributions in Mongolia, and Zhang Fu was not very happy either.

Liu Sheng said quietly: "The last one will just make a claim. Are the people who make the decision? Are they all the emperor?"

"Hmph..." Zhang Fu let out a soft voice from his nose, "When passing Lang Sang Wei to Annan, there is no obstacle all the way. Anyuan Hou insists on going on the sea. Do you understand the matter at sea? More than 20,000 soldiers, if there are any mistakes in the sea, I see how you explain it."

Liu Sheng did not buy it and continued to refute: "The general doesn't understand very much, but the eunuch Hou Xian patted his chest. That time in Rouyi Hall, the general was also present. Hou Xian won't say anything anymore. There is a bay north of Qinghua, and Qiongzhou (Hainan Island) to the east, and Leizhou Prefecture blocked it, so there is not much wind and waves. The navy from Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian can also come here, let alone the sea ships in the capital?"

Zhang Fu frowned and looked at Liu Sheng, who looked at him for a while. Zhang Fu didn't say anything more.

As long as Liu Sheng did not disobey the military order, he would not be afraid of Zhang Fu at all. Because he had worked with Zhang Fu for a long time and knew Zhang Fu very well.

This person is a bit hypocritical and often very unkind. For example, when Zhang Fu felt that the Han King was in a weak position, he directly captured the chief of the Han King's Mansion and sent the capital to seek credit. However, Zhang Fu was also a qualified general. He would not abolish the public for personal gain and would affect the situation of the war. During the "War of Pang Han" period, Zhang Fu was dissatisfied with too many people and did not do anything.

Only one time people thought that the matter of hiring the public and reporting private affairs was to deal with He Fu; the truth was revealed later. He Fu did have a strange intention, and Zhang Fu did not wrongly accuse him...

The army successively arrived at the flat area near Lang Sang Wei, and each army selected places to camp. The generals entered the Acropolis and came to the temporary headquarters of the Central Army.

Soon a general came to the headquarters of the Central Army to report the matter. The person who came was named Li Bin, who looked very familiar with Zhang Fu. Liu Sheng knew that during the Yongle Dynasty's campaign to attack Annan, Zhang Fu was also commanding troops in Annan. It seemed that Li Bin seemed to be Zhang Fu's old subordinate. Liu Sheng did not come that time and didn't know the situation very well, so he was just guessing.

Li Bin brought Huang Zhong's letter.

The current deputy governor of the Annan Governor's Office (the governor is King Annan) is Huang Zhong. During the internal war of the Ming Dynasty, he was the deposed prince. He also refused to surrender the Han Palace many times, and he was unable to accept the imperial edict until the capital was captured. However, the emperor did not cleanse these people and still asked Huang Zhong to lead troops in Annan. Perhaps because Huang Zhong was Zhang Fu's old subordinate and he also recognized Zhang Fu as his benefactor.

This makes Liu Sheng feel that the current emperor and Zhang Fu seem to be the same kind of person, and generally they will not deal with someone just because of their likes and dislikes.

Li Bin said: "Governor Huang said it several times in a row. He will finally apologize in front of the general, saying that he has been betrayed the general."

While unpacking the letter, Zhang Fu immediately asked, "What did he do?"

Li Bin said: "Governor Huang withdrew the garrison of Beijiang Prefecture and Cishan Prefecture (now Bei Ning Province, Vietnam). Now the post road between Dongguan Prefecture (Hanoi) and Lang Sang Wei has been cut off, so you can only detour from the west to contact us.

Since last month, the rebels have advanced northward, and the number of troops has become more and more fierce. Dongguan Prefecture and Lang San Guard dare not abandon it. Governor Huang was worried that the troops would be dispersed and were defeated, so he abandoned Beijiang and other places and gathered troops in Dongguan. Lang San and the two places were defended and waited for assistance. Later, all these places were occupied by rebels. Governor Huang felt that he could not argue with his retreat without fighting. He knew he was wrong..."

However, Zhang Fu reacted calmly and looked like he was not caring. He breathed a sigh of relief, as if he felt that the matter was not serious.

Li Bin said again: "Since this month, the rebels have gathered heavy troops in two places, one in the lower reaches of Huangjiang (Honghe) in Dongguan Prefecture, threatening the important areas of Dongguan Prefecture. The other is in Beijiang Prefecture, where the rebel generals are Ruan Shuai; they have received news from somewhere, as if they have known in advance that reinforcements have come from Lang Sang Wei."

Zhang Fu quickly ordered: "Send someone to take a detour and tell Huang Zhong that he would immediately mobilize the main force to cross the Huang River, control the coast of Dongjiang (the tributary of the Honghe River east of Hanoi), and burn down all the boat bridges."

Li Bin was stunned for a moment, as if he felt he had heard it wrong, and asked hurriedly: "The general is the meaning of Governor Huang, don't you have to defend Dongguan City?"

Zhang Fu frowned and asked, "Who will cut off the retreat of the rebel Ruan Shuai if Huang Zhong does not leave Dongguan?"

Li Bin bowed and reminded in a deep voice: "In the southeast of Dongguan Prefecture, there are a large number of rebels, or a hundred thousand people..."

Zhang Fu said coldly: "Have you not arrived at Dongguan yet?"

"Yes, yes." Li Bin had no choice but to hold his fists to agree.

Zhang Fu turned around and looked at Liu Sheng: "The more than 20,000 people from Anyuan Hou will set out tomorrow. After leaving the Langshan Mountains, you will go straight to Zhiling Village. You must first ask the vanguard army to board a boat bridge, cross the Taiping River, and then detour from the east to attack Zhiling Village. In this way, crossing the river will not be disturbed, and you can cross the river a few times less."

Liu Sheng was not as familiar with Zhang Fu when he came to Annan for the first time. Liu Sheng could not remember some small place names and specific areas. He hurriedly found a map and looked for the places mentioned by Zhang Fu's military order.

The place that marked Zhiling County was found immediately, very conspicuously, just at the confluence of four rivers.

The Taiping River flows north and south. As Zhang Fu said, cross the river first to the east of the Taiping River, and then you can go to Zhiling County by land; otherwise you will have to cross the Shang River, the Jian River, and the Taiping River.

Liu Sheng had to show an admiration.

Zhang Fu said again: "After Anyuan Hou took down Zhiling Village, he would station troops for several days to control the northern section of Taiping River. When the general suppressed and destroyed the rebel bandit Ruan, you would call the sand ships from Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian, and come along the Songtai River (now the river north of Haifang City) to receive artillery and supplies and go to the entrance of the sea."
