Chapter 3 Sadler's Boxing Teaching

The first lesson Sadler gave to Wang Lei was how to clench his fists correctly.

Sadler believes that this is a very important lesson, so that Wang Lei must listen attentively.

Correct fist clenching posture can not only enhance effective blow power, but also avoid fists, especially finger injuries.

Since statistics, the most common injury accident in the boxing ring is that the boxer accidentally punches, especially the joints of the thumb.

The reason is not only the incorrect posture of clenching the fist, but also the incorrect contact point between the fist and the attack target.

The opponent in the boxing ring is not a sandbag or a target. One punch hits the opponent's hard head. According to the unstandard posture of the boxing, and the contact point is incorrect. For example, when squirting the punch, using the side of the thumb joint to hit the hard part of the opponent's head, under the interaction of force, even with thick gloves, it will most likely cause severe pain in the thumb joint or even fracture.

King Lei had experienced this statement in his previous life. He accidentally punched his opponent in the head but injured his thumb. It hurt him for several days and his thumb joints were swollen.

The fist clenching posture taught by Sadler is similar to that of other martial arts schools. It emphasizes that the fist should be flat, the thumb should be tightly clamped at the second joint of the middle finger, the back and wrist joints should be flat, and a perfect ninety-degree degree should be formed with the fist.

The posture of clenching the fist is important, and the contact point of the strike is also important. Sadler emphasized that no matter whether you use a straight punch or a hook punch to attack, you must use the fist peak to contact the strike surface. You must not use parts other than the fist peak, especially the side of the thumb joint to contact the strike point surface.

Later, Sadler taught Wang Lei how to wrap the bandages.

A well-wrapped bandage can effectively reduce the chance of fists and fingers being injured.

After wrapping the bandages and wearing a pair of red boxing gloves weighing 226 grams, Sadler began to teach Wang Lei to stand.

The standing posture of boxing is the foundation of the foundation, and beginners must pay twelve points to it.

If the wrong standing posture is easy to find a gap and hit the vital part of the face.

Although boxers' standing postures are very different, beginners are the same and must use standard standing postures.

It is completely different from the three-body standing posture of Xingyiquan. Sadler emphasized that it is necessary to ensure that both fists are always lifted to protect the part under the sight of the face, and that they must not fall down regardless of punches. The knees of both legs must be kept bent and the heels must be lifted.

After constantly adjusting his standing posture, Sadler was satisfied after standing for about ten minutes.

After carefully guiding Wang Lei to warm up, stretching his arms and lowering his waist, Sadler taught Wang Lei to punch him again.

Stand in the traditional posture of the left hand in front, and quickly flex and extend the elbow joints with your left hand. Click forward like a poisonous bee or a cobra, and stop at once.

This is the most basic and most commonly used boxing technique in boxing techniques. It can be said to be the pioneer of other boxing techniques.

The most common way of playing for boxers is to constantly test the opponent with the front jab and find the opportunity to punch hard. When the opponent reveals his flaws, the back punch will bombard the opponent like a shell, and accidentally knock down the opponent with one punch.

Boxing champion Ali, later British boxing champion Lennox Lewis, and even the old boxing champion George Foreman who came back later, are all good at this style of play.

In fact, almost more than 90% of boxers are good at this style of play.

So it is important to practice jabs well.

Not only should you practice with the left hand in front, but you should also practice with the right hand in front.

Ordinary boxers are used to the traditional posture of the left hand in front, and it will be a bit awkward if they change to the right hand in front. Left-handed boxers are the opposite.

But coincidentally, Wang Lei did not have this problem. He was very balanced and could change freely.

The reason why the left and right balance is because he practiced Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do when he was a teenager in his previous life. The position of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do is to put his flexible and powerful right hand in front. When attacking, he emphasizes the use of a straight punch or a front foot to attack, while the other hand is the opposite.

When practicing Xingyiquan with my grandfather in this life, the five-shaped boxing Bengquan that my grandfather taught him also emphasized that he used his right hand and right leg to fight Bengquan.

Wang Lei, who has been used to practicing, does not feel unnatural when converting into positions. The left and right postures can be easily converted and become very balanced.

This discovery surprised Sadler.

A boxer who can balance left and right and move freely in the posture has more advantages in the boxing ring and gives the opponent a headache.

From the appearance, the jabs in boxing are somewhat similar to the bang of Xingyiquan. The difference is that the jabs are aimed at the face of the opponent. The bang of boxing attacks the chest and abdomen, exerts a short force and attack, and emphasizes the body strength and force to penetrate the internal organs.

It was probably because this body was used to practicing Bengquan under the supervision of his grandfather a few years ago. When Wang Lei punched the jab, he would use the Bengquan force without realizing it, which caused his jab to move suddenly, but it was fast and fierce, and his explosive power was also very strong.

Such a jab is no longer a jab in the general sense, but has become a heavy jab that can knock down the opponent.

Sadler naturally saw that Wang Lei's practice method was a bit different from what he taught, but because Wang Lei's appearance and movements were very standard and there was no error, he just frowned and did not correct it.

After practicing the jab for half an hour and resting for about two minutes, Sadler taught Wang Lei's footwork again.

The most basic step-sliding method.

Slide forward, backward, left, right.

The sliding steps of boxing are very simple. At least for Wang Lei, who has practiced the footwork of Xingyiquan, the sliding steps of boxing are so simple that they cannot be simpler.

In terms of movement appearance, the sliding steps of boxing are no different from the "inch steps" of Xingyiquan or the traditional Chinese martial arts. It requires fewer and simpler.

So Wang Lei practiced very easily and met Sadler's "smooth and natural" requirements in just a few minutes.

Sadler was surprised again and couldn't help but ask, after learning that Wang Lei had practiced Chinese boxing before, he decisively continued to teach.

Sliding, left and right steps, surrounding steps, diving and shaking left and right, taught Wang Lei in one breath.

As expected, within half an hour, Wang Lei mastered these footworks and body techniques skillfully.

Boxing is the basis of all martial arts schools recognized. Except for fighting techniques such as judo wrestling that do not allow punching and kicking, no matter any martial arts school, there is a shadow of boxing technology. National arts such as Xingyiquan are naturally no exception.

Basically, almost all boxing techniques can find similar movements in Xingyiquan.

What's more, Wang Lei also learned Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do in his previous life.

When learning boxing with Sadler, the imprints in the depths of memory were inspired, so Wang Lei naturally got started very quickly.

However, after Sadler taught Wang Lei's jab and footwork, he did not continue to teach him, but instead asked Wang Lei to practice jab and slip.

This was the case for three days in a row. When Wang Lei felt impatient, Sadler explained: "Lei, don't think that learning the movements of the jab is enough. This is still far from it! Practicing boxing techniques requires three stages to be considered as meeting the standards. These three stages are power shaping, and the movement force and power are integrated."

"Motivational stereotype refers to forming muscle memory, just like learning to walk, and naturally walking posture is not standard. For example, if a person who walks in the inner eight-character step wants to learn how a normal person walks, it is not enough to just imitate. He must keep walking in the normal posture until he forms muscle memory, and instinctively walks out of normal steps without having to concentrate, which is considered qualified. This is also the case for practicing boxing. You must practice a movement repeatedly. Mastering the correct movement is nothing, and practicing proficiently is nothing. You must practice thousands, hundreds of thousands or even millions of times with correct movements to form deep-rooted muscle memory, and then you can get started."

Wang Lei was stunned when he heard this and couldn't help asking: "Where is the power fusion and power fusion?"

Sadler said: "Motive fusion refers to fusing a fixed action with a reflex nerve to form a conditioned reflex, just like your action..."

Sadler suddenly slapped Wang Lei in the face.

Wang Lei instinctively raised his hand to block it, and his eyes also narrowed instinctively.

Sadler stopped halfway and said, "Your action is conditioned reflex, but this is the wrong conditioned reflex. When you face an attack, you not only have to avoid it, but also have to fight back. Dodge with the smallest movement and fight back with the most standard jab. Whether you encounter a sudden attack or are hit so hard that you can't think, you can rely on your instinct to fight back. If the action is still very standard, even if the action and the reflex nerve are fused. Only when you reach this level can you be considered a qualified boxer."

After a pause, Sadler said again: "As for the power penetration, it is a level that can only be achieved by a top-class boxer. When boxing, you can mobilize the muscle strength of the whole body and gather the kinetic energy generated by the muscles of the body on the fist. There is no need to accumulate strength. You can punch the deadliest punch by random punches. This is the power penetration. Lei, if you reach this level, even a top-class boxer is qualified to compete for the boxing champion's gold belt!"

Wang Lei was stunned when he heard this. Why did Sadler's theory sound so familiar?

Where have you heard it? Obviously it is not my grandfather. In my "memory", my grandfather never talks about boxing principles when he teaches him to practice boxing, but instead supervises him to practice boxing with a bamboo strip. As long as he is lazy or his movements are not standard, he will directly pull off the bamboo strip, which is so painful.

Grandpa taught boxing only one sentence: "Press punches thousands of times, and the truth will be clear!"

It means that the boxing principle allows you to understand it by yourself through repeated practice!

Wang Lei thought for a long time and finally thought of it.

It seems that I have read the same theory in a certain domestic art textbook downloaded online in my previous life.

Let’s not talk about the dynamic shaping. Isn’t the integration of power and the integration of power just the theory of “instinctive counterattack” and “instinctive force”?
