Chapter 859: Visiting China

Americans were shocked and angry about China's military base in Djibouti. On formal occasions, Americans expressed their regret for this. The US military base in Djibouti is the largest base in Africa and the largest drone base. Americans are worried that this may cause the US intelligence to be stolen. After all, the two military bases are too close.

In private, the new US Ambassador to Djibouti, John Rogers, met with President Odova and conveyed the United States' opinions.

"The United States does not want to see the current situation happening. This has infringed on the interests of the United States in Djibouti. We have reason to believe that the Chinese can obtain US intelligence information here, so Washington asked Djibouti to cancel China's military base plan." John Rogers said.

The tone of speaking was like a command.

After saying that, Odova waited for John Rogers, he looked at the other party coldly and said, "Mr. Ambassador, please pay attention to the tone of your speech. You must know that I am the president of Djibouti, not an American. Djibouti is not a county in the United States. This place is not managed by you Americans."

"We have our own way of doing things, and you don't need to teach you. I am not President Gale. I know how to do it more favorably for Djibouti. If nothing happens, please go back. If nothing happens in the future, don't contact me if you don't have a summons." Odova directly issued an expulsion order.

The US ambassador left the presidential palace with anger on his face. A few days later, the US made remarks to the outside world, condemning the Djibouti president for being "close with China". Some US lawmakers even said: Odova is "here is paranoid and proud" and Washington should "urge President Gale to step down."

Obviously, the United States is very dissatisfied with Odova's performance. Odova is not the one who can be bullied. He immediately said in an interview with foreign media that the US military base in Djibouti was originally scheduled to end the contract in March 2017. Djibouti considered taking back the US military base and handing it over to China for use, which may make the region more peaceful.

Odova's original words were, "I think it might be safer for Djibouti to use that base for Chinese people."

Odova has slapped the United States in the face. The United States has always been studying contract renewal, but due to the huge changes in the situation in Djibouti during this period, this matter has been delayed. Originally, Americans did not care too much about contract renewal. They never thought that Djibouti would refuse to renew contract with the United States.

But now President Odova's words have surprised the Americans. If Djibouti really doesn't renew the contract, then the matter will be very serious.

The Americans have started building a military base in Djibouti 20 years ago and have invested nearly 70 billion US dollars one after another. The rent is just a small amount, and what is even more important is investment in this area.

Moreover, this base is the largest military base in Africa and the most important base. You must not give up just like this. If you give up, all the investments of the United States over the years will be wasted and it will also lose the best base, which is unacceptable to the United States.

This situation makes Americans very nervous. If Odova insists on his own, he will not agree to renew the contract. At that time, the United States will suffer great losses.

The Americans' arrogance has been calmed down, and perhaps temporarily suppressed. After all, the United States cannot attack and interfere as it does in Syria, Iraq and Libya, because Djibouti is very stable now and directly involves the specific interests of dozens of countries, so Americans cannot do it recklessly.

China successfully obtained the Djibouti military base, but according to the plan, the base will take a two-year construction period and will not be put into use until about 2017.

Immediately afterwards, news came from China and Djibouti that the two countries will jointly build a free trade zone and transshipment port area in Djibouti. This project will be jointly developed and managed by China and Djibouti. China will invest US$1.1 billion, accounting for 65% of the total shares. Djibouti proposed land, accounting for 35%. If this project is completed and put into use, it will solve 16,000 jobs in Djibouti.

You should know that there are only 850,000 people in Djibouti. This project alone can benefit 1.9% of people in Djibouti. This figure that solves the employment problem alone can shock a large number of people's chins.

However, everyone knows that this project is a golden project. Whoever gains a foothold in Djibouti Port can guard the entrance to the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. It is one of the busiest and hottest business channels in the world.

In his speech to the outside world, Odova also said, "We hope to follow Singapore and Panama to build Djibouti into an international shipping transit base in Africa."

This is just the beginning. On November 20, just two months after President Odova came to power, he was invited by China to pay a state visit. However, Odova also made a request, which was to hope that Mu Yang would accompany him in person this time.

This request was not excessive. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs quickly responded and agreed that Mu Yang would return to China with Odova's visiting delegation and take on the reception and coordination work.

"Mr. Ambassador, this is my first time in China. Is there any place in China that needs taboos?" Odova asked.

On the special plane, Odova sat with his wife, and Mu Yang sat next to him.

Mu Yang smiled: "China is not as strong as Djibouti, a country with a religious system. China also has religions, but it is enough to believe in freedom of belief as long as it is not a cult. There are not many taboos in China, but there are still some social etiquettes that need attention. I will tell you briefly."

"For example, when eating in China, use chopsticks, it is best not to insert them into a bowl." Mu Yang said.

"I know chopsticks, are there any taboos here?" Mrs. Odova asked curiously.

"It's just a few taboos. For example, the Chinese people think of cuttings in a bowl as burning incense, which means offering sacrifices to the dead. For example, in ancient times, before beheading the head, they would give prisoners a bowl of rice. The chopsticks in this bowl of rice were inserted, so the Chinese people would find it unlucky to insert chopsticks in the bowl."

"Another example"

Mu Yang told Odowa and his wife some small taboos. In fact, when foreigners come to China, there are not many taboos. Chinese people are very inclusive, as long as they don’t touch the bottom line, but for example, some foreigners go to China to pick up girls to bully women, then try the iron fist of Chinese men.

"When I arrive in China, I want to go around and see the culture and historical sites of China. If the ambassador has time, can he take me around?" Odova said excitedly.

"Of course there is no problem. The capital city is enough for you to see for a while and take you to see the Great Wall, one of the seven wonders in the world."
