Chapter 300: At All Costs

On February 21, the students came to the training classroom in the morning, but when the class started, the teacher had not arrived yet, and people began to whisper. Soon, two people walked onto the podium, and the speaker was not today's lecturer, but a director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Emergency Office.

The director said in a serious tone: "Comrades, I will announce something here. Your training has come to an end here. Now there is a major incident that needs to be dealt with. The department has a serious shortage of staff. Now you need to devote all of you to your work."

"There are 216 comrades participating in the training this time, of which 34 lesbians will be arranged to go to the consular protection center to answer the phone. The specific work content of the consular protection center will have specific arrangements. I won't go into details here."

"The remaining gay men are ready to go abroad, take your passports and documents, bring your clothes, and set off at Libya at any time. We don't have much time. If the arrangement goes well, the flight will take off at 2 pm, so the time for you to prepare is very limited."

The students were a little confused by the sudden news. They were fine when they woke up in the morning, but why did they become so nervous all of a sudden and some of them began to whisper below.

"Some comrades may not know what happened at once and were a little overwhelmed. I will briefly explain it to you here. Not long ago, civil unrest occurred in Libya, Africa, and Gaddafi's supporters and opposition factions had exchanged fire. Our country has a large number of citizens in Libya. Most of them are construction workers and corporate employees who are going to Libya for construction. The total number has not yet been determined, but it should be no less than 30,000."

"We have received notices that Libyans have stormed Chinese businesses and construction sites and robbed Chinese citizens' property. Our expatriates have been injured in this unrest and conflict, so the country has decided to bring the expatriates in the deep war back to their country at all costs. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the organizer of this evacuation operation."

"Comrades, if you enter the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and accept this job, you must assume this responsibility. Now the staff that can be drawn out in the Ministry have basically been taken out, but it is still not enough. So you, the new clerks, will also participate in this evacuation operation."

The director spoke very simply. After saying this, the director of the training center took the microphone and said, "You are here to receive training for better work. Now the task is in front of you. It is a good time for you to practice. I wish you all the tasks to be successfully completed and announce it here. This training ends here. The assessment will no longer be set up for this training. Your achievements will be combined with this evacuation operation, and after completing this operation, you will make a comprehensive score."

After the two leaders finished speaking, they got off the podium. The speeches of only 10 minutes in total brought too much information and shock to the students. Their first real feelings were that diplomatic work was to face emergencies and challenges at any time.

Mu Yang and Xu Youshan left the classroom and were in a corner downstairs. Xu Youshan held Mu Yang's hand and said, "Although I don't know if there will be any danger in your trip to Libya this time, you have to be careful and come back safely."

Mu Yang smiled at Xu Youshan, "Don't worry, I'm fine, don't be tired even if you are in China."

The two of them didn't have time to warm up. Mu Yang went upstairs to prepare his own things. There was a bus waiting below. The gay men took their luggage, boarded the bus, and were directly pulled to the airport.

Looking at Xu Youshan who kept waving outside the car window, Mu Yang took out his cell phone and sent a text message: "Remember to send me text messages every day, even if I can't receive them, I will send them, do you know?"

The text message came back quickly: "Okay, wait for you to come back safely."

In the car, Mu Yang called his father again, saying that he would go abroad once with an emergency task, so he would not worry.

"Your mother often had urgent tasks at the beginning. Since you chose this job, dad can only support you, but you should pay more attention to safety." dad said.

"My good father, your son is very capable, so don't worry." Mu Yang said.

The bus arrived at the airport and gathered four or five hundred people in a lobby. A deputy minister who led the team stood on the platform and said:

"Comrades, the people in China are watching us, and the expatriates from abroad are looking forward to us. Our action was signed by the Chairman and personally directed by Vice Premier Zhang. The leader's instructions are, 'at all costs'. This evacuation operation is the largest evacuation operation carried out so far since the founding of the People's Republic of my country, so there is no need to be lost. The people who go out of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represent the country and must bring back those expatriates who look forward to us safely."

"The planes have been contacted. The first batch of 24 will fly to Libya at the same time, and then pick up the first batch of expatriates. However, the comrades who came with them will stay and continue to organize evacuation operations in Libya, so the comrades must be prepared for a long battle."

"The plane will have to wait a while before we can get better. Now we use this time to group. Egypt, Tunisia, Greece, and Malta are neighbors of Libya. The embassies there are already preparing to receive evacuation of expatriates, but they are not in enough staff and need support."

"There are our expatriates in several major cities in Libya, so going deep into those cities and bringing out expatriates is the top priority of this operation. The expatriates there are already attacks and casualties have occurred."

The leader talked a lot, but the point was that when we go to Libya and bring back the expatriates, other difficulties must be overcome, because we are the hope that people can bring, and people will live and go home, as diplomats, we must shoulder this responsibility.

After all, after entering Libya, if you lose contact with the country, you need to make decisions on many things yourself. If you ask for instructions in everything, it is likely that everything will be too late.

After boarding the plane, the tense atmosphere eased, but I was not idle. Staff began to explain in detail the current situation and situation in Libya, so that everyone could have a general understanding of the environment of this operation.

The civil strife in Libya began on Valentine's Day on February 14.

It sounds ridiculous, but reality is sometimes so nonsensical.

The first gunshot was fired by the Libyan opposition on January 14, 2011 at a construction site called Suluge in Benghazi City.

Gaddafi said this in a public event: "My people will support me, because I am building many houses for you, some of which are almost built. You can live in good houses and live a good life!"

Then, people became happy and excited, and began to rush to the construction sites of the building. When they saw the houses that had been built or were about to be built, they happily wrote their names, and then jumped and cheered, "I have a house to live in" and "I have a house."

This shout didn't matter, and it woke up thousands of ordinary people living at the bottom. They rushed into the construction site one by one, and then a nationwide craze for house grabbing broke out.
