Chapter 58: The Role of Soldiers

Before nine o'clock in the morning, Matthew arrived at the Warner Studios in Burbank as agreed. After waiting for less than three minutes, Helen Hermann drove Amanda with him.

After the two of them parked the car, the three of them entered the studio together. Since the audition studio was not far from the entrance of the studio, they did not transfer to the battery car and walked towards the other side.

"This studio is really broken..." Matthew looked around. Whether it was the studio or other buildings, they were seriously aging. "Did Warner have no money? He won't renovate it."

Helen Hermann didn't speak, but Amanda said to Matthew, "In recent years, Warner's videos have rarely been filmed in Los Angeles, and most of them are in Australia. This studio is basically used by HBO."

"HBO?" Matthew felt that he had heard of the name.

Amanda said, "HBO is a cable network owned by Warner."

Matthew was hurriedly called from the MV crew by Helen Hermann. He only knew that the audition was a heavyweight job, but the specific situation was not clear. He couldn't help but ask, "I was the TV series I was filmed by HBO?"

Helen Herman finally spoke, "It was jointly invested by HBO, DreamWorks and BBC." She said as she walked, "The producers were Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg."

"Sounds great." Matthew muttered.

Even though he is ignorant, he knows about companies such as DreamWorks and BBC, and Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are even more well-known.

Matthew asked curiously, "Have you told me that this is a war drama? What kind of war drama? Is it like in "Save Private Ryan"?"

He has watched "Save Private Ryan" more than once, but he knows nothing about the American dramas of World War II, because at that time he didn't watch American dramas at all. He didn't have prejudice against American dramas, but the TV dramas he has watched like to drag plots, which is really impatient.

"The genre is a bit similar, about the 101st Airborne Division." Amanda walked to Matthew and said, "In 1998, during the promotion of "Save the Soldier Ryan", a veteran who participated in World War II personally presented Tom Hanks with a novel about the 101st Airborne Division. After reading it, Tom Hanks handed over the book to Steven Spielberg, and the two decided to make the novel into a TV series and jointly serve as the producer of the TV series."

Helen Hermann turned to look at her, and Amanda stuck out her tongue, "That's what the newspaper propaganda is."

"This project is temporarily named "Brothers Company". "Helen Hermann also said a few words to Matthew, "The basic situation is similar to what Amanda said."

Matthew turned to look at Helen Hermann, complaining as he walked, "Miss Hermann, I'm about to be auditioned, and I don't even understand the situation of the crew."

"I have prepared the information for you." Helen Hermann seemed to have not seen Matthew and walked straight forward. "This audition is just to let you put on a military uniform and see if the appearance is suitable for a soldier, and there is no other content."

Matthew shrugged, simply shut up and stopped saying anything.

When he arrived at a studio with a huge HBO sign hanging at the door, Helen Hermann said to the crew staff, and took Matthew and Amanda into the studio, followed the passage on the left to a huge waiting room.

There were many rows of seats here, and hundreds of actors were sitting at this time. Matthew took a quick look and found that these actors had one similarity, all of which were white men around the age of twenty to forty.

Perhaps there are mixed races like him who are mixed with Chinese or other bloodlines, but from the perspective of appearance characteristics, these people are all white.

Helen Hermann looked at the table below, "You two are waiting here for a while, I'll go find someone, I'll probably be back in ten minutes."

With the experience of the previous auditions, Matthew felt that it was not only the actor's audition results that decided the audition results, but also too many off-field factors. Helen Hermann may be trying to win these off-field factors.

After Helen Herman left, Matthew and Amanda found Zhang Wuren's bench to sit down.

"Why are they all white?" he asked curiously.

"Don't you know?" Amanda looked at Matthew, and saw that he really didn't know, and said, "The 101 Airborne Division was originally a white force in World War II."

Matthew nodded, "I don't know much about history."

He knew very limited history of the United States, and there were very few people about World War II, so he roughly knew about Normandy Landing and Roosevelt.

"Amanda, ask you a question." Matthew suddenly remembered something, "How old is Helen?"

"What do you ask this for?" Amanda looked at Matthew curiously, "Women's age is a secret."

Matthew gestured and said, "Helen looks like she is in her early twenties, but she is very calm in dealing with people and seems to have a lot of social experience."

He felt that Helen Hermann's social experience was no worse than him, but he had not been in school for too long. He went out to work and make a living as soon as he graduated from junior high school. Many things came from the training of the bottom of society. As a child who came from a poor mountainous area, he was still the kind of family that he had to provoke. It may be difficult for normal people to imagine what kind of difficult life and complex mental journey he had experienced.

Amanda had no complicated thoughts and asked directly, "Isn't this normal?"

"Is it normal?" Matthew said in his own way, "Aren't girls like her... good-born shouldn't they all be flowers in the greenhouse?"

"I can see that you have prejudices against people of good origin." Amanda curled his lips and said, "There are people like you said, and there are many, but not all people of good origin are like that, and Helen's family is not very good."

She shrugged, "Since he was fifteen years old, Helen has been attending formal business parties with her father and trying to participate in some business activities, especially in the Hollywood circle. In the past ten years, she has met many people. Even when she was at the most stressful college courses, she has never given up on social practice. After graduating from the previous year, she was still in the CAA's mailroom for more than a year."

Amanda seems to admire his cousin very much, "In order to start a business, Helen's efforts and efforts are beyond your imagination."

Matthew had no contact with the so-called elite class before and did not know much about these, but he could imagine that Helen Hermann had such a broad social network, which was indispensable to her family. Amanda once revealed that Helen Hermann's father had been struggling in Hollywood for decades. Although he was not a top boss in the circle, he also formed extensive connections, and these could become the help of Helen Hermann.

I believe that Helen Herman's choice to develop a career in Hollywood is also related to the fact that this circle is easier for her.

Matthew and Amanda are still discussing Helen Hermann, who has returned.

She waved her head and signaled Matthew and Amanda, "Follow me."

The two immediately followed Helen Hermann away from the waiting hall and came to a styling room. Helen Hermann said to a staff member at the door, "Help notify Mr. Eric Poker, Matthew Horner is here."

It seemed that he heard Helen Herman's voice, and the door of the styling room was opened from inside, revealing the face of a middle-aged man, and said to Helen Herman, "Come in."

Generally speaking, agents rarely participate in auditions directly. Helen Hermann is very familiar with the other party, so he greeted Matthew and walked in first.

"Eric, this is Matthew Horner, my client."

When Matthew also came in, she introduced both sides, "Matthew, this is Eric Pock, the producer of the crew."

"Hello, Mr. Pock." Matthew stretched out his hand and Eric Pock held it on it, "Hello."

Then Eric Pock pointed to the dressmaker, "Go and change your clothes first."

Matthew walked to the dressmaker and followed him to choose a suitable airborne military uniform.

"It's pretty good in appearance and is very strong." Eric Poke seemed to be satisfied with Matthew. "The face is clear and angular, so it should be fine to pass the first test in the casting group."

Helen Herman smiled and said, "Matthew is very suitable for a hardcore role." She said, "Director Ridley Scott once asked him to play the savage leader in the new film "Gladiator."

"Hmm." Eric Pock nodded, "I will remind the casting group people."

"Thank you, Eric."

After chatting for a while, Matthew walked out after changing his military uniform. He wore a helmet on his head and an ordinary soldier's combat uniform from the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He looked majestic and turbulent.

"It's definitely okay." Eric Pock just glanced at him and called an assistant, "Take Mr. Horner to the audition group. I've greeted the person in charge of Group B, just go to the line."

Helen Hermann was not worried at all. Matthew's appearance was suitable for this type of role, and Eric Pock also helped. If she couldn't even pass the audition-style first audition, she wouldn't have to get involved in the entertainment agency.

Matthew came to the audition room and waited for the actors inside to come out. Then he was called in. The audition was even simpler than the first audition on the MV. He asked Matthew to introduce himself, and stood there to observe his body shape. Finally, he took a few photos and a video and asked him to leave.

There are no specific roles in this audition, and the casting group seems to be just looking at whether he is suitable for playing in the military type.

This simple audition came out very quickly. When Matthew returned to the styling room, Helen Hermann had received a notice that he had passed the audition.
