Chapter 46 Unemployment
(The new week has begun. We continue to make the new book list. Please vote for more recommendations!)
As usual, Matthew and Rachel McAdams had language classes in the afternoon and would stay here for lunch. They were not well-off at home, so they chose an Italian-style restaurant near the Performing Arts School. The performance class started for so long, and the two were very familiar with each other. Rachel McAdams was not polite to Matthew.
"A portion of macaroni." She ordered the same one.
This is not the first time Matthew has had a meal with Rachel McAdams. He knows that actresses eat very little, in order to maintain their shape, and is not polite.
"A Florence Bones Steak." He is tall and strong, and exercises a lot every day. He is a typical carnivore, "a seafood noodles."
The waiter left, Rachel McAdams put his hands on the table and asked with concern, "Have you passed the audition?"
Matthew picked up the water cup and said before drinking, "Passed."
"Really?" Rachel McAdams was a little surprised. "Are you going to be the leading actor in Britney Spears' MV?"
"The contract signed yesterday." Matthew didn't want to talk more about this to avoid showing off, and asked instead, "How is your job? Have you resigned from McDonald's?"
Rachel McAdams nodded, "I resigned, and I haven't found a suitable part-time job yet."
Matthew asked curiously, "Didn't your agent introduce you to you?"
Many agents have broader opportunities in this regard, such as Helen Hermann. Among the young actors who signed long-term contracts with Angel Agent, he helped find his part-time jobs.
Rachel McAdams sighed, "I have many actors under my agent, I'm just an inconspicuous one."
"Is there anything I can help?" Matthew asked.
Rachel McAdams smiled and shook her head. In fact, she knew very well that Matthew's situation was not very good either.
She changed the subject, "Your accent correction is very fast."
"Is that true?" Matthew pinched his chin, "I'm probably better at this than acting."
Rachel McAdams laughed out a pair of good-looking dimples, "You have a good talent in acting, either."
Matthew shook his head, "You are the first to say that."
The waiter brought the meals ordered by the two of them one after another. Although the restaurant was not of high quality, the taste was pretty good.
"Have the agent not asked you to audition recently?" Matthew asked, taking a sip of water.
"No, I haven't auditioned for a long time." Rachel McAdams said, swallowing the pasta in his mouth, "I doubt he has forgotten that he has me."
She suddenly put down her fork and said, "By the way, when class started today, the school informed me to go to an internship in a crew next week."
Matthew thought for a while, "I may not be able to go, the MV here will start shooting anytime."
"It's so regretful." Rachel McAdams seemed a little disappointed. "I still want to play opposite you."
"You enjoy suppressing me in full while performing together, right?" Matthew revealed directly, "Every time you steal the show."
Rachel McAdams smiled sweetly again, "Actually, I'm very distressed, and I always feel that I'm exerting too much force."
"It's better than me, who only knows how to be handsome and cool." Matthew said the comments David Astor gave him.
"This is your natural condition." Rachel McAdam Stan looked at Matthew up and down, "Although he is not as handsome as Leonardo DiCaprio, he looks more like a man."
Matthew deliberately made a movement of a bent arm showing muscles, "Do you like my type?"
"Like your type?" Rachel McAdams held his chin with one hand and looked at Matthew with a tilted head. "Do you want to pursue me?"
"Uh..." Matthew was speechless and didn't know how to answer.
This Western woman is too straightforward and doesn't play by the rules.
He was still a typical Eastern-style thinking and shook his head quickly, "I don't know what to do tomorrow after I have passed today. It's better not to implicate others."
The two looked at each other and laughed at the same time.
They all have to fight for the most basic survival now and have no time to think about anything else.
After lunch, Matthew paid the bill and went back to the Performing Arts School with Rachel McAdams to continue his afternoon language class.
Just as Rachel McAdams said, after this period of study and correction, Matthew's Texas accent was already very weak when he spoke, and language classes were not just correcting accents, but also professional theatre language practice.
In the next two days, Matthew basically taught at the Los Angeles Performing Arts School during the day and continued to work as a driver at the Red Penguin Services Company at night. He spent all his spare time studying the MV scripts and roles he obtained. He occasionally paid attention to the entertainment gossip in the gossip newspaper "American News Report" whose name is very similar to that of serious newspapers.
He believes that Elena Poyal will never miss big news like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
In the middle, Matthew was very curious for a while and wanted to call Ilena Boyal, but he endured it. If it was not necessary, it would be better to contact less entertainment reporters.
Instead of wasting time on this, it is better to study the scripts and characters of the MV.
Music MV, especially popular song MV, is generally not long. The MV that Matthew participated in is planned for no more than five minutes, and the content and style of the picture should be consistent with the song style of "Sometimes".
Since getting the script, Matthew has spent a lot of effort on this and has collected a lot of information. Even though he is a thorough layman in pop music, he has figured out the most basic situation of "Sometimes".
Sometimes, a teenager pop song influenced by bubblegum pop, mainly depicts a shy girl who dares not confess her love to a boy she has a crush on.
This song was evaluated by music critics on both positive and negative levels. Some comments believed that the song was better than Britney's previous single "The First Confession of Love", while others believed that the song was inconspicuous, but it just boredom showed Britney's youth.
In the MV of "Sometimes", Britney Spears' role is a shy little girl who dares not confess, and he plays the boy who is secretly in love with Britney.
In short, whether it is a MV or a song, it is a typical public teenager style.
Therefore, the MV and the actors in it must be pleased by the young people.
Matthew was very self-aware. He was able to pass the first exam and enter the makeup audition, which had basically nothing to do with his acting skills. His pretty good appearance should have played a considerable role.
Based on the collected information, it is not difficult for Matthew to conclude that what he, the male protagonist, needs to do is to be handsome, cool, sunny, and be able to please Britney's teenage fans.
This does not require much acting skills. As long as he has basic shooting experience, it is enough not to make super low-level mistakes such as looking at the camera. Most of the rest are the jobs of stylists.
Matthew felt it would be not difficult for him to deal with such a job, after all, he was only nineteen years old and didn't need to pretend to be young.
It was another afternoon when the sun was facing west. Matthew got off the bus and dragged his long shadow toward the Red Penguin Company, preparing to start the work for the night.
When I was about to reach the company's door, my phone rang.
"Hi, Helen." The one who called him was the agent, "Is there anything wrong?"
Helen Hermann's voice came from the receiver, "The record company has confirmed the director. Tomorrow, all the actors will go to the studio. The director will meet you. The official filming will start the day after tomorrow, and we will arrive at the crew before 8 o'clock in the morning."
Matthew was about to say yes, but Helen Hermann's voice sounded again, "You'd better take leave all these days, don't go to work tonight, and ensure your energy!"
"Okay, no problem!" Matthew looked up at the company gate. He probably had an objection next, "I'll ask for leave now."
Helen Herman reminded again, "Also, don't mention Michael Sheehn and Martin Jackson's affairs to anyone in the crew."
"I know," Matthew promised, "I'll keep my mouth shut."
He has already got the results he wants, so what should he do if he mentions these boring things?
After hanging up the phone, Matthew entered the Red Penguin Company, went directly to the second floor, and came to Liszt's office.
As usual, the bald black man, the fat man and the fat man were there, but the difference was that the bald black man and the fat man seemed to have not seen him and said a word.
"Boss." Matthew came to Liszt's desk. Liszt looked up at him and handed over the car keys and information. "This is the work tonight, go to Santa Monica."
Matthew took it, scratched his head, and said, "Boss, after doing tonight, I want to take a week off."
"What?" Liszt widened his eyes, "Please take a week's leave? How many leave have you taken this month?"
The bald black man got angry when he saw Liszt getting angry and deliberately interrupted, "He is a big star now! Of course, he doesn't take this little job seriously!"
Anyone who sees the employees under his command constantly ask for leave will have an objection, and Liszt is obviously angry.
Matthew was about to say a few nice words, but before he could say anything, the bald black man said again, "Big star, what amazing role will be played this time!"
He didn't believe that this country bumpkin was so lucky every time.
Although he didn't want to be fooled with a stupid pig like a bald black man, he kept running, and Matthew got a little angry and turned around and said, "Britney Spears's MV."
The bald black man immediately shut up and said nothing, as if he was not in this office.
"You have taken too many leave." Liszt said the truth, "I can't explain it to the boss."
Matthew understood what he meant. Although he didn't want to lose the job, he didn't want to delay the shooting of the MV.
He put the keys and materials on his desk, "Thank you for your care during this period, Mr. Liszt."
This person has various shortcomings, but when he needs it most, he gave him a job that can survive and gain a foothold.
Liszt pushed the key to Matthew, "It's almost the end of the month after work tonight. You'll give me a resignation report tomorrow. I'll count you attend all this month."
