Chapter 6 Gorky City

Gorky City is the third largest city in the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic. It is located at the confluence of the Volga River and its right-bank tributary, Wova River, and is the capital of Gorky Prefecture. The city spans both sides of the Wova River. It is the hometown of Gorky, with Gorky Memorial Hall and many museums and universities. Among them, the Novgoro German University is the most famous. It is also the most prestigious automobile city in the Soviet Union. Gorky Automobile Factory is located in this city. Many famous Soviet automobile products, such as Volga, Gas, and Seagull cars were born here.

After Seryosha and Petrov drove the stolen Gas 69 to Gorky, they could not move forward any more. The reason was simple, they had no money. After the excitement of successfully breaking through the jailbreak, the first question was not how to avoid being caught, but how to survive.

Seriosha checked all their property now, only some insulin stolen from the hospital and nitroglycerin for treating heart disease, and that's all, they only had thirty rubles on them.

"We have to get some money?" Seryosha said to Papa Petrov.

"What should we do? Go steal? Go rob? You don't need to go to Siberia. We will be caught back in a few days." said Papa Petrov.

"We can sell these medicines and we have to find a black market first. The hospital will not ask for things of unknown origin." Xie Liaosha suggested.

"This is a good idea. How to find it?" asked Papa Petrov again.

"I don't know, go into the city," said Seryosha, and drove into Gorky City.

...

1980 was the 16th year since Brezhnev took office as General Secretary. The Soviet Union was aggressive internationally. Not only did the number of nuclear weapons surpass the United States, but he also sent troops to Afghanistan to realize Peter the Great's dream. Moreover, he would host the Olympics this year. This is the first time the Soviet Union held the Olympics. It can be said that this year was the most proud year as a Soviet.

Although the more glorious road is ahead, life still needs to continue. Daily necessities, cigarettes, alcohol, sugar and tea are all supplied by tickets. Without tickets, you can’t buy things even if you have money. Housewives will see queues on the street, and basically don’t ask what to sell. They will line up first. But sometimes, for example, weddings, funerals, etc., how can you buy things without tickets? Then you can only go to the black market. Although the price is a little more expensive, you can finally buy them.

People in Gorky were very enthusiastic. A kind-hearted aunt had just pointed out the road for a young man who was visiting his girlfriend's house but could not buy vodka. That special market was in a small alley in the automobile factory area. It was surrounded by workers' residences, and the place was not easy to find, and it would only open at night.

The Gas 69 is too big in the city. Seriosha parked the car in the parking lot of the workers' living area. There were some vacant dormitories for rent in the living area. These were all the workers with accommodation that took advantage of the public. The rent of more than a dozen rubles a month is a considerable asset for workers who earn more than 300 rubles a month. Seriosha easily found a place to live, but the money in his hand was half reduced.

Neither Seryosha nor Petrov’s father had dinner, they were waiting to take insulin and nitroglycerin to the black market to try their luck.

As night came, people squeezed into the free market of the Gorky car factory area in groups of three or two. Here are several alleys connecting each other, so it is not easy for the police to do business here to be caught. Seryosha and Petrov's father dispersed on a fork in the road and moved in one direction respectively.

There are many products on the market, and many of them cannot be bought in state-owned stores, such as Cuban cigars, French perfumes, Swiss watches and sabers, and some Japanese gadgets, of course, the prices are amazingly high. There are also some foods sold here, such as smoked fish, bacon, etc. In short, as long as you have money, you can buy everything you want, including guns, but no one is selling that thing.

Selyosha took out a box of insulin and a box of nitroglycerin from his schoolbag. When he saw someone coming, he showed it to others. He thought no one would buy it, but he didn't expect that the business was surprisingly good.

"How much is insulin?" asked a middle-aged man with glasses and looking like an intellectual.

"Six rubles a box." Selyosha said casually.

"Can it be cheaper? My lover has to use it every day?" the middle-aged man begged.

"Then it's five rubles, no more low." Seryosha replied.

"Give me twenty boxes." The middle-aged man seemed very satisfied with the price.

"Why don't you go to the hospital to buy it?" Selyosha asked curiously.

"My lover is a housewife. Apart from cadres, ordinary people cannot reimburse this kind of drug for treating chronic diseases." The middle-aged man replied helplessly.

...

Hundreds of boxes of insulin were sold out quickly, and only a few boxes of nitroglycerin were left. Finally, Seriosha was packed and sold to the last customer. With nearly two thousand rubles in hand, she made a fortune. She earned an income of half a year in one night. Seriosha really didn't expect it. He quickly packed up the money, returned along the way, and went to find Papa Petrov.

Old Petrov's father looked proud. Sheryosha knew what he wanted to say, so he used a color and asked him to be careful. He was so happy that he was so sad that he was staring at him. The two left the market as quickly as possible.

He was not panicked when he had money. The two of them simply ate something and then rested. The business of the black market at night made Selyosha a little excited, and the jailbreak made him a little worried. Both moods were mixed, and Selyosha couldn't fall asleep until dawn.

Early the next morning, Seriosha went out, bought some coffee, eggs, butter, bacon, and found the nearest newspaper. Petrov's father was responsible for making breakfast, and Seriosha sat on the side and flipped through the newspaper. The above mentioned the jailbreak, but only mentioned that an explosion occurred in a factory that produced fireworks for the Olympics, and the leaders cared for, and the victims were in a stable mood. What made Seriosha wonder was that such a serious thing happened, why the newspaper was not written, but if you think about it carefully, you would feel relieved. Perhaps it was because the KGB had too many secrets that could not be told.

...

Leningrad, in the KGB's Leningrad Intelligence Building, the bell at 11 o'clock at night has already ringed, a desk lamp in the corner of the corridor is still bright, a young man with a blonde hair is still busy, this young man named Vladimir Vladimirovic Pucin has worked here for four years after graduating from the Leningrad Law Department, but it is the first time to take on such a big case. The prison escape incident in Lubiyanka prison in Moscow caused a huge wave of the KGB, although the incident was

The people above suppressed it and did not cause any big waves in the country. However, among the prisoners who ran away from the Rubyanka Prison were Chechen separatists, people who violently resisted the Soviet regime, and traitors who were bought by hostile countries. Some were people who blocked the KGB. As a world-famous intelligence agency, the KGB was a powerful force. In order to safeguard its own interests, they naturally had to deal with these people. So many fugitives were no longer arrested by the KGB in Moscow, so some fugitives were assigned to the Leningrad Branch.

After reading the photos of the door of the Lubiyanka prison lockdown room and the analysis report of the identification experts on the cause of the explosion, Pu Kyoto was a little impressed by the college student named Sergei Ivanovic Uriyannov. The task force gave him a nickname called "Lubiyanka Silver Fox".

"Silver Fox, where are you?"
