Chapter 7 Whimsical Connections

After a long conversation between Spencer and Garibaldi, the two police officers, felt that there were many common topics. Spencer knew that Interpol's main responsibility in Europe was to combat transnational crime, organized crime and other criminal activities. The most rampant place of these criminal activities was Italy, so listening to the opinions of Garibaldi was very helpful for solving the case.

"Officer Spencer, are you interested in going around the street with me at night? I want you to see some situations!" Garibaldi asked suddenly before leaving the door.

"If it's not trouble, I'd rather!" Spencer replied.

...

After nine o'clock in the evening, Garibaldi drove a gray private car to the hotel to pick Spencer out. Spencer was waiting at the door in advance, and Garibaldi saw Spencer at a glance while driving the car.

"Where are we going?" Spencer asked after getting in the car.

"Go and see the business of those Eastern Europeans!" Garibaldi replied bluntly.

Garibaldi quickly drove away from the hotel in a car. At night, there were few cars on the streets of Naples, but I don’t know where Garibaldi went. When it was almost time to arrive, there were more vehicles. Soon, the scene of lights and wine made Spencer see some tricks.

Spencer couldn't help but think that this place looked like a red light district. What was this Garibaldi doing?

The car slowed down after driving into a narrow street. Neon lights were everywhere and charming women. Garibaldi's car had just stopped aside, and soon a woman lay on the window and asked, "Two brothers, do you need service?"

"How much does the service cost?" Garibaldi asked with ease.

"2000 lira!" The woman said as she unbuttoned her top and exposed her chest. This action scared Spencer, who was unprepared, and was shocked.

"It's too expensive, forget it! By the way, are there any cigarettes of this brand?" Garibaldi said, taking out a note from his pocket, which read the name of the Cuban cigarette found by the Interpol from France. Because it was in Spanish, Garibaldi didn't know exactly how to pronounce it.

"How much do you want? This brand of cigarettes is about one dollar per dollar!" The woman took out the cigarettes from the small bag she carried with her. The cigarettes were all packaged one by one, but the packaging was very rough and it was obviously not a regular packaging.

Garibaldi took the cigarette, sent the woman away, handed a cigarette to Spencer and said to him: "See!"

"What did you see?" Spencer asked in confusion.

"Didn't you see that the woman just now, don't you see that she doesn't look like an Italian?" Garibaldi reminded.

"You mean..." Spencer understood what he knew.

"Yes, the woman just now should have come from the east. You have to know that the local love industry is controlled by the mafia. Without the permission of the mafia, these women would not be able to work here!" Garibaldi lit a cigarette, washed a sip, then looked at the cigarette, and nodded constantly. This thing is indeed worth the money.

"Is this what you mean by Eastern European gangs? They are protecting these j girls?" Spencer continued.

"No, a large part of these women were smuggled from Hungary. But you see these cigarettes, only here are easy to buy. The women standing on the street are like mobile retail stores, cigarettes, alcohol, and banned drugs can be bought from them. Without the permission of the mafia, they would never dare to do this. And have you seen that there are still some gang members on the street maintaining order here. In other words, the arrival of these women has not reduced the income of the mafia." Garibaldi kept analyzing.

"You mean the Mafia colluded with the gangs on the Iron Curtain and sold women from Eastern Europe to work here?" Spencer woke up in surprise.

"Our government is still fighting against the east side, but our gang has long joined forces with the enemy!" Garibaldi said coldly.

The two sat in the car and looked at the crowd outside. They each fell into deep thought. Although the Interpol represented by Spencer connected the Toulouse case with the criminal organization, they would never have thought that there would be such a complicated background.

"Officer Garibaldi, if it were you, how would you continue to investigate?" Spencer now understood one thing. The high-ranking Interpol did not know what the real crime situation was. Garibaldi was different. He was very familiar with everything here. He had noticed early on that some criminal organizations from Eastern European countries began to penetrate the West. Due to the existence of the Iron Curtain, European judicial organs could not jointly combat these criminal activities. These countries at the forefront of the Iron Curtain have become a hotbed of parasitic criminals. The power of the Interpol can no longer arrest the real murderer.

"Hey! Have you ever thought that if these experts die, who will be the biggest profiter?" Garibaldi finished smoking a cigarette, threw the cigarette butt out the car window, and asked casually.

When Spencer heard this, he looked at Garibaldi and was about to say something. He immediately denied the idea. However, he still replied to Garibaldi: "These scientists are the best communications science experts in Europe. They are developing a communication standard in France. I'm sorry, I don't know much about what they are studying. However, it is said that similar companies in the United States are also studying this technology. I think it's unlikely that it is them!"

"Then what motive do you think the gang has to kill these communication scientists with such a big fanfare? What are the benefits for them?" Garibaldi asked back.

"We have never had any conclusions about this. I don't know if the Mafia has any reason to do this!" Spencer said.

"Although it's a bit incredible, I can't figure out why a gang should do something that has nothing to do with me. And the risk is so great, unless there is any interest relationship between the two organizations!" Garibaldi looked at Spencer and analyzed bit by bit.

"No! No! No! No! This is simply ridiculous. A high-tech company in the United States is mixed with the mafia? Is this a whimsical idea?" Spencer immediately subconsciously denied it. However, although he felt that Garibaldi was a little whimsical, he had to admit in his heart that this could indeed explain many things that were inconscible.
