Chapter 32 Decoy

"How many times did you think this is this month?" In the conference room of the 103rd Airborne Division, the division commander Xie Miao angrily questioned his subordinates. All the cadres above the regiment in the division were called over, and a needle was quietly dropped on the scene and could hear it.

"I'll tell you this for you. It's the fifth time. Will every bullet and every grain of food be transported from the country?" Every question from Xie Miao made the military cadres sitting below sweat on their foreheads. Now the leader is angry, whoever comes first will be in trouble.

"I don't say anything! Then I'll call it!" Xie Miao's sharp eyes swept over the cadres below. None of the guys sitting below dared to contact Xie Miao's eyes at this moment. Everyone lowered their heads at the same time. On the surface, they were reviewing, but in fact they were afraid of being caught out as a typical example. The youngest sitting below was also the leader of the regiment. Xie Miao's sharp eyes swept over them one by one, and finally stopped on Grachev, the leader of the 354th regiment.

"Comrade Grachev!" Commander Xie Miao's call completely dispelled the last trace of fantasy in Grachev's heart, and Grachev quickly stood up to salute.

"Comrade Grachev, it's okay if others sit down and don't say anything, but are you embarrassed to sit there? Who is the person who attacked us? I know without investigation, it's the guerrillas entrenched in the Pagman area. Have you just forgotten the matter that your regiment paratroopers tested at the end of last year?" Commander Xie Miao said in a stern tone.

"I haven't forgotten, commander!" Grachev replied in a heavy tone.

"Okay! I'll give you a chance to avenge you now!" Commander Xie Miao said firmly.

"Is it only our group? Can we let other groups cooperate with us?" Grachev said with some embarrassment.

"Isn't your group more than 1,000 people enough?" Commander Xie Miao's words completely blocked Grachev's thoughts. Grachev could only accept this task in the sympathetic eyes of his colleagues.

On the way back to the regiment headquarters, Grachev was thinking about how to suppress bandits. The superiors' orders should not be taken as if they were farts. Even if they were harsh, they had to be executed. The senior officials were at the top of the army, let alone the division commander. Grachev's mind was very confused and he couldn't figure it out at all. The last time there was a flash of inspiration on the battlefield. Grachev felt that he might never be as good as he was at that time. Although Grachev was not smart enough, he knew who was the real smart man, and his subordinates were. Therefore, the only thing Grachev could figure out along the way was to listen to Lebed's opinion. As soon as he returned to the 354th Regiment's station, Grachev couldn't wait to call Lebed.

"Lebed, I just received a new task from the division - to attack the guerrilla armed forces in the Pagman area. I want to hear your thoughts." As soon as Lebed entered the door, Grachev pressed him on the sofa. After a simple greeting, Grachev openly talked about the new order sent by the division part.

"Who are we going with?" Lebed immediately became nervous when he heard that there was a mission. This was his first mission in the 354th Regiment.

"Only we are!" Grachev said regretfully.

"How is that possible if we are the only one?" Lebed stood up in surprise when he heard this.

"It wasn't because of the paratrooper assessment a few years ago. There was no way, the army was like this. There was no background and could only be slaughtered." Grachev complained, and there was some inspiration for him to say such words to Lebed.

"I understand your difficulties. I am also a newcomer who has just arrived. I only know you, the senior here..." Lebed didn't say the following words, and he didn't need to say them. From Grachev's eyes, Lebed knew that Grachev had already heard the meaning of Lebed's surrender.

"Do you have any plans?" Grachev asked.

"Please let me think about it? Is there a map of the Pagman area?" Lebed asked hurriedly.

Grachev quickly took out the map of the Pagman area and spread it on his desk. The two of them started to study it carefully with magnifying glasses.

After a while, Grachev threw the magnifying glass aside and rubbed his sore eyes. Lebed was still lying there and watching seriously. Grachev walked to the coffee pot, brewed two cups of coffee and brought it over, and handed Lebed a cup.

Lebed took the cup, his eyes still couldn't leave the map. After a while, Lebed finally stopped being addicted to the map. He straightened his waist and said to Grachev: "The Pagman area is not small. Although it is a plain, it is impossible to catch them with the power of our group. Once there is any movement, they will immediately escape into the mountain area. Even if we are gods, we will not do anything to them."

These words are not new, and what Lebed said about Grachev can also be seen. The Pagman area is located in the northwest of Afghanistan, guarding the two major transportation arteries that Afghanistan passes through northwest Kabul. The road to Tezmer in the north and Kandahar in the south is between Pagman and Kabul. It can be said that the transportation line in western Kabul is completely under the nose of Pagman's armed forces.

"Do you have any specific ideas?" Grachev continued.

"Yes, there is a little immature thought." Lebed replied with a smile. Grachev knew that Lebed must be more modest, but in fact he was almost sure.

"Tell me what you think!" Grachev couldn't wait to hear Lebed's thoughts.

"I noticed the ambush place in our transport team last time, which was very interesting!" Lebed pointed to the map and said. Before Grachev could ask questions again, Lebed had already started explaining on the map.

"Look, there are mountains on both sides, cave tunnels behind, and Kabul River in front." Grachev nodded to show his understanding.

"If we blockade the bridge across the Kabul River and the cave behind it, then the enemies in the canyon will be unable to run away." Grachev understood what Lebed meant, but he still didn't know Lebed's plan. So he nodded again to show his understanding.

"If we lure the enemies into the canyon zone and block them inside, and use armed helicopters to attack the enemies on the mountains on both sides of the highway, we can eliminate them in one fell swoop. So we just need to organize another transport team to pass there and lure the enemy! But the troops as bait will have to bear great danger and will probably be wiped out." Lebed finished his plan, and he picked up his cup and took a sip of the coffee that had already been lost.
