Chapter 16: The Lurker Hidden in the Darkness
In the Lianhe Lake area, which had just rained last night, the sky became gloomy again tonight, and the air humidity continued to thicken with the passage of time. A layer of fine water droplets began to condense on the wooden plank roads between the rows of boats.
"It" stays on the canopy of a street tree on the street. It is higher than the street lights, and there are no residents in the house under your feet, so you are not afraid of being discovered.
The smell of living people, at the end of this plank road, the smell of three living people was lingering in the boathouse. It sniffed its nose, and a biomass tremor sound came from its throat. Two scarlet spots were vaguely shining in the dark treetops.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from the treetops next door. It was frightened suddenly, jumped to the canopy next door, and made a loud low sound.
With a hustle and bustle, the new one hid in the canopy of another street, like a male tiger and a lioness whose territory was invaded, making waves of threatening sounds. This is warning himself to stay away from this place, "it" is very clear, but it does not want to leave yet.
A tree was separated from each other, and four scarlet lights appeared and loomed among the treetops, and they stared at each other.
...
"This is the second floor."
Shirley walked up the second floor with a light step. Since Solan did not prepare enough shoes, she had to step on the snow-white cotton socks. It happened that the floor of the house was so clean that it was not even what an ordinary new home should have. It was really doubtful, how Solan cleaned so clean in one night.
Johanna told herself to find soap. This work was actually left to Solan. Who knows better where to put the things than him? Shirley complained, fortunately, this work is not difficult to complete, it is nothing more than searching in the bathroom. The layout of two bathrooms and four bedrooms, the first floor of the toilet has been confirmed to have no soap, so it must be on the second floor, unless Detective Adams doesn't wash his hands when he eats.
Sure enough, there was a piece in the bathroom on the second floor, which was placed on the shelf above the sink. Shirley took it with her, but she didn't rush to leave, but looked around.
This is the bathroom. Even if the chief moved in yesterday, even if there are two bathrooms in total, this is the bathroom. The sink and mirror outside, the toilet and bathtub inside, are all very private daily necessities, especially the two inside...
"Um?"
Shirley was surprised to notice that the bathtub was covered with a huge canvas. There was a frosted glass door on the inside and outside of the bathroom, which was half open now. The canvas inside covered the entire bathtub, probably just to cover the things placed inside.
What should be placed in the bathtub and covered tightly with a thick canvas? Shirley saw clearly that although a corner of the fabric was lifted up, the coverr was obviously aiming to completely cover the placement.
Could it be the dismembered corpse?
Because of the daytime incident, Shirley subconsciously thought about it. Although this must be a delusion, looking at the current situation, it really looks quite similar. Although she has just graduated, she is also a policeman. I have read many detective novels by Agatha Christie. Isn’t it common sense to dismember the corpse in the bathroom?
"Hey, what am I doing!"
Just when she almost couldn't help lifting the canvas, Shirley stopped herself in time. What was she doing? Is there anyone who just casually flipped through other people's homes like this? And she even doubted the character of Officer Solan Adams!?
But just a second before leaving the bathroom, an inconspicuous thing attracted her attention.
She was placing it openly on the shelf above the sink. Shirley frowned and wondered. She remembered that when she first entered the house to get soap, there was a blue toothbrush there, so why was it replaced by brown now?
Is it blue or brown?
Since she didn't look closely, Shirley was a little confused. If the toothbrush was pink, she could definitely tell it. How could Officer Adams use that color? But since it is also a masculine color, which one is blue or brown...?
"Sherry Harbor!"
Downstairs, Claude shouted: "Why are you so slow to get a soap? Have you still fallen on it??"
"Ah, OK, I'll get down right away!"
Shirley stopped hesitating and hurried downstairs with the soap.
As soon as she ran, a lemon smell suddenly drifted from her body, drifting everywhere. Soon, when she arrived at the first floor, the fragrance still spread on the upper floor.
"call……"
A low chirping sound from her throat, a slender brown-haired girl was hanging upside down on the ceiling of the corridor, clinging to it like a spider, and ten slender fingers were deeply embedded in the wooden boards of the wall. Looking at Sherry's platinum-colored head disappearing from the stairs, she sniffed her nose to remember the lemon-scented perfume.
Then, with a full sense of frustration, she tilted her head, then licked her lips, swallowing a stream of saliva.
But just as she couldn't help but open her mouth, another commotion from outside the window attracted her attention.
...
After all, the preparations for tonight were not sufficient, so the staple food of dinner was a large pot of spaghetti, plus two extra meals for male compatriots, Pizza Hut’s nine-inch beef pizza. The theme of entertainment was watching TV, but unfortunately the Miami Heat’s football match had just been finished, so everyone had to live with the local news station.
"Boy, don't think you're new to you, we all look forward to you!"
Claude sat next to Solan, eating tomato sauce, and laughed happily: "Now we two are one of us, should we compare and see, who can solve our own share first? If you have any clues, you must tell me. I have any clues about the park, and I will definitely hand them over to you!"
Solan nodded and said, "There is one thing I care more about. The director of the forensic office is Ravi Hawkins, right? Does he have only one assistant forensic doctor under his command now? Such a huge Seattle forensic office, but only two people are maintained?"
"You two are talking about this topic when eating." Johanna sat gracefully on the side sofa, complaining, but she was not slow to eat noodles: "I can look back and show you the death count in the city. Over the past year, the average accidental deaths sent to us every day is only one or two, because there is an average of two or three weeks for a murder death."
"So, ordinary administrative anatomy doesn't take much time, and complicated judicial anatomy is very few, so two people can play around, right?"
Johanna put down her chopsticks and raised her eyebrows: "Accidentally, Adams, it seems that you have a good study of anatomy? Let me guess, do you often go to the forensic doctor when you were in Gotham?"
Solan ate pasta slowly. The food rolled into the stomach bag, but unfortunately his physiological organs could not draw any nutrients from it. Since it was just pretending, he naturally didn't need to eat it very quickly.
"The corpse is a priceless treasure. Even if only bones are left, we can get many unknown clues from chemistry tests..."
"Stop, sir, there are new people here!"
Just as Solan was about to talk endlessly, Shirley raised her white and tender little hand: "Don't discuss this topic during meals anymore, okay? As soon as I hear you talk about this, I keep thinking about the one in the park... Um!"
Sure enough, Claude's body subconsciously moved, but Solan was one step faster than him and had already handed the napkin over: "Sorry, sorry, it's not intentional. Shirley, you have eaten a lot tonight. Do you want to stroll on the wooden plank road outside? It's probably much more comfortable to blow the sea breeze."
Claude gave Johanna a look in secludedly.
"Uh...I think this is a good idea."
Shirley took the toilet paper and wiped her mouth. She didn't spit out anything, otherwise her image would be even worse. She looked at the body during the day and listened to this topic again at dinner. The pasta with meat sauce and tomatoes were beautiful in color, and there was also a bathtub and canvas upstairs where she imagined the scene of the corpse case. It was really enough...
Seeing her running out of the house in three steps and two steps, Solan couldn't keep up and smiled bitterly at Claude: "Your daughter was scared, can't you go over to comfort her?"
"I went over to comfort me... Oh, boy Solan, you really gave me a problem."
However, Claude scratched his head and said, "Let me, a big, sturdy old man, comfort my daughter?"
Johanna did not interrupt the whole process, but at this moment, she gave Solan a deep look.
Solan received the signal, glanced around the female boss and the local old employee, and squinted the corners of his mouth.
"Eat! Watch TV! Wait for three minutes and she will naturally come back!"
