Hope, Choice and the Road to Sail 3
Lao Qiao is not a good person, this is clearly written on his face.
William was sure he was the same as the gay man with a dog, even though he had never seen his face under the mask. Alphonse did mention his friends in the Royal Navy, which further confirmed his speculation.
Old Joe and Arthur had a holiday, so they must have had an intersection - they were both non-commissioned officers of the Royal Navy, which was reasonable. William did not dare to think deeply, but felt like falling into an ice cave, and was full of despair about his future life as an alternate sergeant in the naval service.
"Compared to Grantham, the climate in Plymouth is even wetter. - Don't mind?" Brigadier General Edison took out his pipe from his arms and asked William for it with his eyes. After obtaining his approval, he leaned back comfortably on the seat and began to suck in the mist: "The military port is south of the city, heading towards the English Channel. Decades ago we defeated the Invincible Armada that came to his door. Ha! The Spaniards..."
The carriage was jogging forward, and the wheels shaking became more obvious when they ran over stones. William had to firmly hold the handrails on the car door to keep his body upright. Brigadier General Edison was in great interest and talked about the glorious history and past achievements of the Royal Navy along the way. In the past, William would definitely ask more details of the battle, but now he can't hear a word.
Perhaps because the brigade general was right in front of him, Old Qiao did not make any trouble. Most of the time he just laughed loudly and echoed the interesting stories and jokes he told, as if he had not focused on this timid blonde boy.
William observed his words and deeds carefully along the way, but he could not find any flaws.
It took a day and a half to take a carriage and finally arrived in Plymouth bypassing several dangerous plague areas.
Plymouth also had heavy rain. The dense rain lines washed away the windows, and William's first reflection of the city was as gloomy and blurry as he saw in front of him.
The carriage did not stop in the city. After bypassing the castle, it directly entered the military port area where the Royal Shipyard on the Tyma River is located.
Sure enough, the military port area is under high security, and you can see soldiers on duty in the heavy rain, as well as many carpenters and shipbuilders running in the rain.
The rain curtain could no longer stop the slightly bitter and salty smell. Even in the carriage, William could clearly feel the existence of the sea.
Some unfinished ocean warships are still parked in the docks, and their black silhouettes are like dormant ancient beasts under heavy rain. These behemoths will sail towards the vast ocean in the future, join the stage of heroes competing for the world's maritime hegemony for Britain.
Brigadier General Edison found that William's eyes were attracted by the warships and was very proud: "They were all built according to new craftsmanship. The Spanish set was outdated. Look, within twenty years, we will have no opponents at sea!"
William nodded silently. The boy's reaction was very satisfied. He took a sip of cigarettes and continued, "But the warship is just a warship. It is the key factor that we rely on to travel across the ocean. That's right. What is really important to Britain, do you know?" The brigade general looked at the boy's eyes seriously, "We - these people in front of you - those who inherit the tradition of a strong naval force!"
"We went to war with the Spaniards, with the Dutch and French; there were storms, huge waves, and countless whirlpools and reefs on the ocean. Only fearless courage and loyalty to the country can support the tiny human sails to sail far away." The brigadier general was excited. He leaned forward, reached out to hold William's chest and whispered, "Every soldier pursues a brilliant battle that can make him famous in history. Muskets, cannons and warships are just tools we need to use, and the power from here can help us create a great kingdom."
These words unconsciously made the atmosphere in the carriage sacred and solemn. The officers stopped talking and laughing, looking at the outline of the warship outside the window as thoughtful, with silent and firm eyes.
The car was extremely quiet, and the sound of sea tides rolling up waves hitting the embankment.
William suddenly felt that it was not that bad. The ideals and ambitions of the soldiers inspired him, and he seemed to have the infinite courage to face the hardships and tests that were about to come.
Not long after the car was running, the car stopped in front of a row of military houses built near the sea. They got out of the car in the rain, tightened the collars to prevent the rain from pouring in, and hurried into the room.
The house was furnished in a simple way, but it was filled with maps, navigators, military reports and sand tables everywhere. It was men who came and went, and it seemed that they would do the work of tidying up - since that's the case, it was not easy to ask for more.
Immediately someone came to report military information to Brigitte General Edison. The matter was involved in confidentiality. They planned to move to a closed study. Before leaving, the brigade general asked Old Qiao to take William to the room prepared for him. After ordering him, the taciturn boy suddenly called him.
"I want to... live in my uncle's room." William looked at the Brigadier General sincerely, "Arthur Thomas' room."
The brigade general's eyes moved for a moment, and finally nodded in agreement.
Arthur's room was at the end of the second floor corridor, which happened to be on the seaside. Standing at the door, the sound of waves hitting seemed to be coming from under your feet.
William had not much luggage, so he carried it himself. Old Qiao led the way in front.
"If you come a little later, this room will be freed up for others." Old Qiao said in a rough voice, "We will not leave a place for the dead."
This sounds harsh, but William tried not to care about it.
His patience was regarded as cowardly by Lao Qiao: "Your devil uncle should be his rich young man, and he must come to the navy to join in the fun. The family is bad, hey! This is not a place to enjoy a happy life!" Lao Qiao cursed without hesitation, "What am I saying? I'll give my life sooner or later!" He finally led William to the door and slapped the boy rudely on the back of his head, "You, most of you, must follow his old path. Then you can give him what I just said."
"As you wish." William smiled politely, "and it happened to help you walk your dog. What's your name-Tabbert?"
Lao Qiao's counterattack came more rapidly than the pleasure of retorting. The boy was already ready, but he didn't expect it to appear in an extremely violent posture.
William was caught off guard and the suitcase he brought was broken, and everything fell all over the floor. He was a little confused, but he quickly reacted and stubbornly supported his body and gritted his teeth and smiled, "Did you raise a dog again? Still called Tarbert?"
"Shut up! Shut up!"
Old Qiao was furious and raised his leg and kicked William in the chest, kicking him down again.
William could no longer speak, but he was not willing to be outdone, and he still stood up from the ground and stared at Old Qiao fiercely.
"Damn... your family deserves to die!" Old Qiao rushed up again and vented his anger, "Duckling, Thomas's bastard!"
Old Qiao was quick and ruthless. Soon William felt that many places where he was beaten were burning, and he probably would turn into an exaggerated hematoma tomorrow.
Their movements were quite a bit loud, but no one gathered to watch them. It was probably common for them to teach newbies in the military camp, and people have long been accustomed to them.
No one will come to help. William said to himself in his heart. Fortunately, this was the expected situation. When he decided to embark on this sailing road, he was ready to face the malice of loneliness in the strange world.
Old Qiao was still chattering, paced around the boy on the ground. He didn't allow William to pick up the scattered luggage. As long as he dared to reach out, he would stomp it down suddenly. He seemed like a beast guarding his prey at his mouth, and he had to wear off the toughness and arrogance of the boy.
The more stubborn William resisted, the more Lao Qiao refused to relax, and heavier the attacks were. The two of them were in a stalemate, and William even felt that he was going to beat Lao Qiao to death today.
He didn't care about being decent, spread his limbs and lay on his back and gasped.
A trace of cold wind flowed across the ground. William turned his head and saw a small thin crack in the door of the dormitory opposite.
Someone kept looking here quietly.
The eyes met and the other party also noticed him.
He looked carefully again. The door opposite was closed and the person who was peeping was gone.
