Chapter 8 The Otaku's Fleet (6)

[The second update, the connection of hydrology, I don’t want to recommend this, I would like to support the ultimate guard’s "New History of China in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1995", and the "Revelation of the Grotto God" by Yu Ye of the Tang Dynasty]

"The Battle of Dogel Sands is perhaps the strangest naval battle in the world, no doubt. Crime, suspicion, mistakes, and chaos, these cult elements run through the whole and the end of this naval battle. Even the Battle of Tsuma is not as good as the shock of Dogel's Shoals! [..com]

Before the war, the German naval genius Major General Heidi Sileme formulated a plan for the ambush of Doger Sands, which was planned to lead two battle patrols and a large armored ship to repeatedly attack British ships and threaten the British coastline. The lowest goal was to attract David Betty's first battle patrol fleet to Doger Shoal, and join forces with General Franz von Hippel's first reconnaissance fleet, three battle patrols and General Reinhard Schell's third battleship squadron, eight battleships, and the highest goal was to fight the Jutland-style battle line!

Undoubtedly, this is a German-style plan with precise calculations and rigorous consideration.

In order to bypass the "intermittent conservative" emperor, the incompetent new Navy Minister Edward Von Capelle, the commander-in-chief of the Ocean Fleet Ingnoll, and the General Staff of the Navy, Heining Von Hutsendorf, jointly directed a wonderful show: by alarming the snake, forcing the emperor to transfer his treasure to the Baltic Sea far away from the battlefield, and then using delay tactics to keep the First Reconnaissance Fleet and the Third Battleship Squadron in the North Ocean as much as possible. In order to attract the British firepower and not let the large fleets be fully dispatched, the Germans carried out a series of confusing actions to show the enemy with weakness. For example, they hid the Deflinger battle patrol, allowing the already-service Luzov to stay in the depths of the Baltic Sea, and Major General Heidi Sileme led a bait fleet that seemed vulnerable and could not be underestimated.

Almost at the same time, Heidi Silem's long-time enemy in half his life, Lieutenant General David Betty of the Royal Navy also formulated an ambitious Doger's shallow ambush plan that was almost exactly the same as his old friends. He planned to use the Invincible and Royal Princess battle patrol commanded by Major General Lampard to raid Helgolan Bay, attract Hippel's first reconnaissance fleet, and wipe out the German battle patrol fleet without De Fringer class.

Compared with the simplicity and rudeness of the Helgolan Bay raid plan, the British have put in some effort this time, such as three Orion-class battleships were transferred to the First Battlecruising Fleet, and for example, using Room 40 to detect the German movements.

With two highly similar ambush plans, and both sides have prepared for their respective plans, it became inevitable that the Doger Sands Battle would turn into an unscrupulous chaos.

However, accidents and chaos do not stop there. Experts from the history of Chinese naval warfare made an incisive analysis of the Dogel Shazhou naval battle: "Success is intelligence, failure is intelligence."

Just as the British were in a state of emotion, Heidi Sileme had already taken the lead.

The German decoy fleet's raid was unprecedentedly successful. They shelled Harrich Ports and Lowstoft Ports, sunk three destroyers, a submarine anchored on the dock, three auxiliary ships, and twenty-six civilian ships, injured the Chatham Light Patrol, destroyed five coastline watchtowers, three forts, two oil depots, and three military warehouses, causing millions of pounds of property damage to the British and more than 600 officers and soldiers to kill, so that the British had an inexplicable panic about the Ocean Fleet. In short, the German decoy successfully attracted the British firepower, making Winston Churchill's throne of the throne of the Minister of the Navy, and made General John Jelico, who insisted on a long-range blockade, struggling to get off the tiger.

However, the British did not surrender. Due to the sinking of the U-15 submarine and the secret codes of the Ocean Fleet were leaked, the large fleet had the advantage of intelligence. By deciphering the words in the telegram, David Betty accurately predicted Heidi Sileme's Dogel Sandbar raid plan and went south in advance to intercept the Sileme fleet.

The British had reason to feel confident. According to the intelligence of the Navy's intelligence department, the newly-in-service Deflinger-class battle patrol had to return to the factory for repairs due to boiler problems. The Ocean Fleet's fast battleship was left with only one battle patrol in the Cedlitz in Jed Bay, which was irrelevant to the overall situation. The deciphered telegram in Room 40 became the last straw that defeated the camel, because the German emperor had just transferred the remaining Cedlitz and the third battleship squadron to the Baltic.

The British were sure of their intelligence advantages, so they paid a huge price for this: the Ocean Fleet arrived at the battlefield in advance and sank the Thor, which was happily encircled and annihilated the battle patrol of the Von-der-Tann, and then ran into Queen Mary head-on, and accepted the big meal that came to their door with a smile.

The Germans also fell into a fixed mindset. At around 13 o'clock, Heidi Silem learned that the First Battlecruising Fleet was heading south. He mistakenly thought that the First Battlecruising Fleet had only five battlecruisers. Given the British's poor shell fuses and fragile defensive armor, Silem decided to plan in advance, and he even set the Dogels naval battle plan as a decisive battle between the big ships and giant cannons.

After a series of plots, suspicions and mistakes, at 18:22 on the 14th, two battle patrol fleets encountered unexpectedly, and a chaotic battle full of unexpected and unpredictable events were staged in the Dogel Shoals."

"On November 14, 1914, the Ocean Fleet used a raid fleet composed of two battle patrols and a large armored ship to raid Harrich Ports and Ports of Lowstoft, ambushing the main fleet in Dogel Shoals. David Betty and General John Jelico led the large fleet to fight bloody battles, defeating the Germans' attempts, and wiped out the German raid fleet at the cost of the sinking of the two battle patrols, and the Royal Navy achieved a brilliant victory!"

On the evening of November 15, the Times, a veteran British newspaper, specially added a special issue of the Outside, and the front page headline published a passionate article "The Rice Flag Still Flying". The people of the British Empire who were holding the Outside can finally breathe a sigh of relief and rush to the streets to celebrate the victory unscrupulously.

"On November 14, 1914, the Great Fleet shamelessly ambushed the returning Sileme fleet. With the efforts of Major General Heidi Sileme and the main force of the Ocean Fleet temporarily commanded by General Schell, the German Navy destroyed the evil intentions of the British. We sank two British war patrols and a dreadnought at the cost of sinking a large armored ship. The glory belongs to Germany!"

On November 15, the Berlin Chronicle removed the sporadic "victory" news of the Battle of Flanders and spent four pages to introduce the Battle of Dogers in detail. The passionate words of the Berlin Chronicle ignited the sad drizzle on the streets of Berlin, causing the beer of all sizes of Germany to be sold out in an instant.

"On November 14, 1914, the war in the North Sea, which had been silent for a long time, rekindled, and the two most powerful fleets on Earth had gathered in the Dogel Sands. However, this naval battle has been full of surprises and incredible since the pre-war mobilization.

Even if the naval battle was settled, the turmoil did not diminish at all. After the naval battle, Germany and Britain announced their victory as soon as possible, thwarting the other party's attempt to ambush the battle.

The era we live in can help us discover clues from the decrypted archival materials and participants’ memoirs, sort out the clues from these messy threads, and make a pertinent evaluation of this chaotic naval battle. However, in 1914, when the information was not prosperous, the whole world was indeed shocked by the different opinions of the British and German governments.

‘Who ambushed the two ambushed wars?’ When Time Magazine summarized the major events in 1914 at the end of that year, it expressed such feelings about the Battle of Doger Sands.

In the Battle of Dogel Sands, the large fleet invested 19 battleships (Benbao, the Indian Emperor had just completed the final commissioning, and Ajax temporarily terminated the power modification, and in fact there were only 16 battleships), 7 front dreadnoughts and 5 battleships, and the Ocean Fleet invested 15 battleships, 5 battleships and a large armored ship. Given the state of the two fleets, once the decisive battle between the large ships and the giant cannons was played, the Ocean Fleet with quality advantage is likely to severely damage the large fleet.

However, General Hippel chose to be conservative at the last moment and did not entangle and fight against the fleet of Ravenson in a fleeing flew. The Germans opened three echelons because of the time and speed, forming a tactic of fuel. The large fleet in General John Jelico's hands was complete in combat power, but the general was responsible for the large fleet and the survival of the British Isles. The pressure of unimaginable outsiders forced him to choose conservativeness. So two huge fleets with no fighting spirit passed by around 22 o'clock.

Under the premise that the main fleet does not take action, only David Betty's First Battle Cruise Fleet, Heidi Sileme's Bait Fleet, and Franz von Hippel's First Reconnaissance Fleet, so this naval battle is also called the peak battle of the Battle Cruise.

In the Battle of Dogers, the British lost the new battle patrol Queen Mary, the old battle patrol, the super-dreadnought Thor, the lion, the Royal Princess, and the Monarch, and the Germans lost a von der Tarn, which had an old but no less than the dreadnought, a quasi-war patrol, and the Moltkes suffered heavy damage. Judging from the results of the naval battle, the Germans barely achieved tactical victory, but this naval battle patrol did not achieve the highest goal of severely damaging the large fleet, and even the lowest goal of strangling the first battle patrol fleet was not completed. The Ocean Fleet still failed to break the blockade of the large fleet, so we say that the Ocean Fleet was strategically failed.

The impact of the Doger Sands Battle was huge.

The Americans learned from the gains and losses of the experience of Dogel's naval battle and put the rapid battleship on the agenda; while listening to the bloody naval battle, the Russians could only remember the less glorious past; the Japanese, who were poor in resources, were more interested in night battles, close combat and chaos battles. In 1917, Kirifuka Fujimoto, who went to the UK as a shipbuilding supervisor to inspect shipbuilding technology, solemnly wrote the words "asymmetric combat" in his notebook.

In order to appease the British people, the British Admiral General Invincible was included in the ranks of minor injuries, and in mid-December it was announced that the Invincible fell into a thunder. Major General Ravenson, who made a mistake in command during the naval battle, was sent to a secret military court and ordered to retire. In the following time, the construction speed of Queen Elizabeth-class battleship with a speed of 25 knots was accelerated, and three R-class (revenge-class) battleships were cancelled, and a new type of battle patrol with a code name prestige began at the end of 1914.

Although the young and strong front-line commanders of the Ocean Fleet knew that they had missed the excellent period to defeat the Great Fleet, in order to inspire the morale of the people, everyone had to force themselves to smile. The deep transformation of the naval battle against Germany was far more than this. Compared with the backlash after the victory of the Helgolan Bay Battle, the emperor's counterattack was even more fierce after the end of the Dogel Shazhou Naval Battle. Ingnor and Hessendorf both stepped down with endless regrets. After thousands of choices, the emperor valued the honest and obedient Bohr and appointed him as the chief of staff of the Navy, putting heavy shackles on the Ocean Fleet.

However, all this cannot tie up the wild horse of the Ocean Fleet, which was about to break away from its reins, because the warlike Lieutenant General Reinhard Schell was promoted to general, and served as commander-in-chief of the Ocean Fleet. Germany's best tactical commander Franz von Hippel became the commander of the third battleship squadron and deputy commander of the navy. The strategic visionary Major General Heidi Sileme was promoted to lieutenant general and took over as commander of the first reconnaissance fleet..."
