The Moscow Military Region was organized in the 1980s:

Kyiv Military Region

The troops stationed in the military region include the 1st Guards Army and the 6th Guards Army, the 17th Air Force Army (transferred from Mongolia in 1959), and the 60th Air Defense Army. The 69th Air Force Army was also in the military region from the early 1950s to 1964.

Belarusian Military Region

In the 1950s, it was under its jurisdiction: the 28th Army, the 5th Guards Army and the 7th Tank Army, with 9 tank divisions and 2 motorized infantry divisions, as well as other troops. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the 28th Army Command was located in Grodno, with the 6th Guards Army Division (Grodno), the 28th Tank Division (Slonim), the 50th Guards Army Division (Brest), and the 76th Tank Division (Brest). The 120th Guards Motorized Infantry Division was directly controlled by the military region and was the most prestigious division in the military region. There were also the 26th Air Force Army and the 2nd Air Defense Army (including the 11th and 28th Air Defense Forces).

The jurisdictions include Latvia, Lithuania and the Republic of Estonia and the western region of Kaliningrad.

Its subordinate troops were initially the 10th Army of the Guards (disbanded in 1950), the 11th Army of the Guards. In the 1950s, the 1st Tank Division, the 2nd Infantry Army of the Guards, the 16th Koenigsburg Infantry Army of the Guards (1st, 26th Infantry Division, 29th Mechanized Division) and the 36th Nemanskiy Infantry Army of the Guards (5th, 16th Infantry Division, 30th Mechanized Division).
