Chapter One(1/2)

The cicadas are chirping in August, and they are ringing in my ears one after another, as if mixed with the heat of midsummer.

In a classroom in the high school teaching building, the rotating electric fan squeaked. Nearly forty students in a class were silent without exception, like a group of mutes wearing school uniforms.

"You are the worst class I have ever brought."

On the three-foot podium, the head teacher picked up the blackboard eraser and stood straight facing the classmates.

He was wearing a dark gray short-sleeved shirt, with the belt of cotton pants tied very high, and a pair of black leather shoes on his feet were shiny, reflecting the blurred shape of the table and chairs.

"Our Jiangming No. 1 Middle School is a provincial key high school, and our class is a top class in a provincial key high school. How many people have you lost in the middle school entrance examination, how many people have you lost in the second year of high school? How come this month's exam is like this?"

He patted the podium and was disappointed: "The average score of our class is only ranked third in the grade!"

There was a boy holding a schoolbag in the front row, and at this time he replied: "Teacher He, there are thirty science classes in one grade..."

"Yes, there are thirty science classes."

Teacher He reached out and held his glasses high, but his voice slowly sank: "But there are only three top-notch classes, and you are equivalent to being the last in the grade."

The students in the podium looked wandering, and no one was willing to look up at him, as if they were impressed by his reasoning.

Teacher He supported the podium with both hands, tried hard to suppress his anger, and then said in a scrupulous manner: "There are more than two hundred days left to take the college entrance examination! You are focused and do your best. Read this sentence every morning, and what other questions can't be written?"

Focus on your mind and do your best.

He specifically added accent to this sentence.

Jiang Zhenghan, who was sitting in the last row, failed the painstaking efforts of his class teacher.

Not only did he not self-examination, he felt a little sleepy when he heard it. He couldn't help but slowly turn his face and yawned with one hand.

The girl in the front row touched the ballpoint pen. When she was about to bend down to pick up the pen, she glanced at Jiang Zhenghan inadvertently, and then as if nothing had happened, she picked up the ink blue ballpoint pen and spread out a dozen brand new draft papers.

Jiang Zhenghan sat behind her. He looked at her back absent-mindedly, then quickly moved his gaze away and looked out the window without any distractions.

It is midsummer in August, with blue sky and white clouds outside the window and thick shade of green trees.

The head teacher quietly walked down the podium, holding a triangle ruler in his hand, and his face was still covered with clouds.

"Jiang Zhenghan, stand up for me."

Jiang Zhenghan was still in a daze, and seemed not to hear Teacher He's words.

His eyes fell on the windowsill, but his thoughts floated far away, and he couldn't pull them back at this moment.

Until the triangle ruler suddenly hit the table, shaking his iron pencil case loudly, the pencil on the table rolled all the way and finally fell to the feet of the girl in the front row.

Sitting in front of Jiang Zhenghan was Xia Linxi holding a ballpoint pen.

Xia Linxi bent down again and picked up a pen again.

Before she could return the original owner, she heard the head teacher say, "Jiang Zhenghan, what is your total score in this monthly exam?"

Jiang Zhenghan stood up from his original position.

His height is over 1.8 meters tall, his body is well-proportioned and upright, nearly one head taller than his class teacher.

Teacher He had no choice but to look up at him and reiterated: "Report your grades and let everyone listen to your superb level."

Jiang Zhenghan paused for a moment, as if thinking about something. Just as the whole class was waiting for his answer, he said without warning: "I don't remember how many points I scored this time."

I don't remember how many points I got this time.

He spoke quite honestly, as if he had really forgotten.

However, none of the students and teachers present believed his words.

"Okay, you don't remember." Teacher He walked back to the podium behind his hands.

While walking, he said, "It's okay, I'll help you remember, Mathematics 123, Chinese 62, Science 81, English 135, total score 401, class ranking 39, and grade ranking 1,07."

The classroom was in silence, and only the electric fan hanging from the ceiling was roaring quietly.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Xia Linxi turned around with the booklet and placed the pencil on Jiang Zhenghan's desk.

Jiang Zhenghan just stood up straight, without the self-knowledge of being the last in the class.

"The full score for the comprehensive science comprehensive score is 300, and you are the only one in the class, and you can't get a comprehensive science comprehensive score."

Teacher He slapped the podium and then said loudly: "The 18-year-old man is so tall that he has no intelligence. What can you do in the future? Will a male model wearing only shorts?"

A few girls laughed out loud, and then the whole class burst into laughter.

Xia Linxi did not laugh. She was like a hermit living alone in the mountains, or like a deaf and blind ice sculpture. In short, she was not disturbed by the sounds of the outside world.

She took out the wrong question book from the drawer, held a ballpoint pen and started drafting.

"Xia Linxi sat in front of Jiang Zhenghan. She ranked first in the grade this month, and all of them were full marks in mathematics, physics and chemistry."

Teacher He picked up the chalk and looked around the audience: "Why are you sitting in the same classroom and listening to the same teacher in class? Why are there such a big gap between you?"

Many students looked back at Xia Linxi.

She turned the ballpoint pen in her hand, but there were no glasses on her nose. She placed a large stack of reference books on her desk, and almost all of them were finished.

There are ten months left to take the college entrance examination, and no one knows how many questions she has done. Although she is wearing a school uniform, she looks out of place.

The madman who only knows how to learn - Xia Linxi's deskmate described her like this.

She is in a subtle situation.

As a good student with excellent grades, Xia Linxi relies on not his talent, but on his tactics and diligence.

Xia Linxi's hard work reached an extraordinary level. On the one hand, her classmates thought she was very powerful, and on the other hand, she felt that she was very distorted.

Those slogans such as "If you want to succeed, go crazy first", "If you are not cruel, you will not stand firm", and "As long as you can't learn to die, learn to die" seem to be the most suitable thing for Xia Linxi.

Xia Linxi has no bias in subjects, including Chinese, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, and every subject is among the best.

What an admirable perseverance.

Less than a month after the third year of high school, Jiang Zhenghan has been sitting behind her. His only impression of her is a back buried in the sea of questions, his thick long hair tied into a ponytail, and occasionally a few strands will be placed on his desk.

Jiang Zhenghan often encounters questions that he doesn't understand, but he never asks Xia Linxi. He would rather ignore the answer to understanding the law than ask her how to solve the problem.

As a young man who just turned 18, Jiang Zhenghan thought this was what people often call self-esteem.

The head teacher had no intention of letting him sit down, so Jiang Zhenghan stood so naturally.

His deskmate Zhang Huaiwu looked up at him, lowered his voice and whispered in a low voice: "Brother Zheng, you have memorized so much these days, and you have to stand up in almost every class."

Teacher He opened the lesson plan in front of the blackboard, selected typical examples from them that he had prepared all night, and began to talk about hyperbolic lines with all his heart and strength, and as always, he said it very well.

Zhang Huaiwu took out his notebook and kept his math notes while muttering to his deskmate: "Brother Zheng, don't be discouraged. I think that although you have a terrible comprehensive science experience, your English is still very good, which means you still have advantages. Don't give up on yourself."

When Xia Linxi's deskmate heard his words, he turned his head and said, "Jiang Zhenghan's English test was 135, and he almost caught up with Xia Linxi."

Zhang Huaiwu nodded and sighed: "After all, it's Sister Xia."

Xia Linxi put down his pen.

Zhang Huaiwu was excited: "Sister Xia, tell me about your learning methods. What else do you do besides doing questions? How many reference books have you written? Can you still buy reference books you haven't done before?"

Xia Linxi's deskmate Gu Xiaoman burst out laughing.

"What are you asking about this?" Gu Xiaoman said, "Do you want to write the paper all night long?"

“I only know how to play games all night.”

"What game are you playing? Are you guys still playing Warcraft?"

"Only boys in the ordinary class can play Warcraft, and the boys in our top class can only play minesweeping and spider cards."

Gu Xiaoman smiled so hard that her branches trembled.

Teacher He on the podium spoke vividly, but Xia Linxi, who was sitting in the back row, frowned.

Very noisy.

She felt inexplicably irritated.

"Stop quarrel."

Some people say: "I'm talking about hyperbolic and the finale of math questions that I often test in the college entrance examination."

The person who said this was Jiang Zhenghan.

After his words fell, he was silent all around him.

Xia Linxi's brows stretched out and his thoughts returned to the blackboard.

Zhang Huaiwu looked at Jiang Zhenghan in surprise, as if he didn't recognize him anymore. After a while, he patted his thigh and said with a slight joking voice: "Brother Zheng, you seem to have become a fan of learning."

Brother Zheng didn't answer, and he loved him very low-key.

Just at this moment, a white chalk in the front row hit like a flying blow, hitting Zhang Huaiwu's forehead without any bias.

The moment Zhang Huaiwu was hit, he thought in panic that this skill of long-range hitting students must be a long-lost skill in the world, and belongs to an elusive sect.

And their head teacher, Any teacher, is the head of this sect.

"Zhang Huaiwu, you have never stopped talking," Mr. He asked angrily, "Are you now having a plenary session and thinking you don't have to learn anymore?"

Zhang Huaiwu's body was shocked.
