Chapter 62
"Welcome the Bodhisattva!"
"Bless the King!"
On a long street, dozens of men were carrying stone statues tied with red silk and shouting upside down, walking by in front of him lively and majestic. Xin Xiu looked at the temple fair of Lingzhao Immortal when he first saw the birthday of the Immortal Lingzhao when he first saw it. He thought that the people here were believers of the ancestors, so he joined in for a while.
But after listening for a while, I vaguely heard that they were not calling out the Spirit Zhao Immortal, but the Vajra or Bodhisattva.
Well, the world is too big, the place is too wide, and the distribution of faith is very chaotic. The believers of my ancestors have not yet developed here, and this is another country's territory. But no matter who it is, it cannot prevent her from joining in the fun.
In this folk activity, no matter whether they believe in Buddhas in the west or immortals in the east, gods in the sky or ghosts in the ground, the activities are the same. They either parade in strange costumes or carry statues, but they can't escape this kind of activity anyway.
Seeing that the group of people entered the palace at the end of the long street, the golden and magnificent palace in this city stands out in the crowd, and it is even more conspicuous compared to other dilapidated houses. This was the first time Xin Xiu saw such an exaggerated temple of immortal gods, and asked others curiously in the local dialect that he had been familiar with:
"What a grand palace, what kind of god do you offer?"
The passerby ignored her and hurriedly left. Xin Xiu turned around and asked another person. The man looked at her with a strange look: "It's Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva. You don't even know about Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva? You ask everywhere, where are there people who don't know about him!"
His tone seemed to know what kind of Bodhisattva was natural. Xin Xiu understood this feeling very well. When her friend talked to her about her idol, she replied, "Who is that?", her friend also looked at her with this look and asked in disbelief, "You don't even know him?"
Things that you think are well-known may be separated from a certain environment, but no one knows them, so people cannot take them for granted.
Xin Xiu: "Do you know the Lingzhao Immortal?"
Passers-by: "What is that? I advise you not to believe in those messy gods. It is better to believe in Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva. If you believe in him, you will be free from illness or disaster. If you don't believe in him, you will be plagued by illness and your family will be destroyed!"
This is so strange. I have never heard of believing in anything, but I have never heard of being punished if I don’t believe in any gods. I am so domineering.
Xin Xiu didn't care: "Wow, so awesome, let him come to me to see if I don't believe that he will suffer from illness or his family will be destroyed."
Passers-by choked, thinking that they had never seen someone as arrogant as her. They were afraid that they would encounter bad luck with her, so they hurriedly avoided her and got into the crowd. There were a few people around who had heard her just now, all staying away from her and avoiding the plague.
Xin Xiu didn't care about them and was preparing to go to the Heavenly King Bodhisattva Temple in front of him. Although many of the Lingzhao Immortal Temples she had been to were not necessarily well-built, and even there were small earth temples half a person tall in the countryside, most of them were incense, and in simple terms, there were many people. However, the temple in front of her was so rich and powerful, but she was not allowed to enter.
Xin Xiu: "You said you have to donate money to get in?"
The man guarding the gate was like a hot dog in various novels looking down at the door guard, and glanced at her competently and said, "You can't even think about entering at one or two points, at least it's a piece of gold. Can anyone bless you as the Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva?"
This is even more strange. If the money offered is not enough, you won’t be blessed. Is it so direct?
Xin Xiu became more and more curious about which king of the temple was. The tickets for visiting were so expensive. She naturally brought money, but she threw it into the crowd and didn't want to use it in such a place. Fortunately, her senior brother taught her how to turn stones into gold, not at this time, and when to wait.
"Here."
A large piece of "gold" was obtained with a heavy golden chunk. The guard stopped stopping him and said with a joyful smile: "As such a devout believer, Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva will bless you."
Xin Xiu: There is no need to ask for blessings from other gods and Buddhas outside. The ancestor may blow my dog head. What is the difference between this and getting married and going out for a prostitution after marrying a wife.
There were very few people in the temple. They looked rich, wearing gold, silver and jade. They were all very pious. They knelt in two rows in the hall and kowtowed to burn incense. Xin Xiu neither kneeled down nor burned incense, and stood there thinking about the statue of others. This statue looked like a mighty general, with a ferocious beast behind it, with several pairs of long and sharp fangs, which was very majestic.
The name is Bodhisattva, but she doesn't look like a Buddhist character. She looked at her for a while and was not interested, so she turned around and left. She didn't like the atmosphere here, and didn't even want to eat lunch here, so she left the city and continued to move forward.
Not long after leaving the city, I saw a group of people coming from the south on the road, carrying stones in a cart, and sweating profusely under the scorching sun.
It looked like a quarry team, both men, women, young and old, from old people with folds and ravines on their faces, and from children in their early teens. Some carried stones and were bent on their backs, some were red in their faces, and the thick ropes on their waists were deeply tied into the flesh.
It was not the hottest time at this time, but the group of people were sweating all over. Xin Xiu was walking while eating oil cakes. When she passed by them, a little boy walking beside her mother, staring at her with dark eyes.
He was probably the youngest among the group. He had a basket on his back and two slightly smaller stones. Xin Xiu heard the sound of his stomach rumbling and the sound of swallowing was particularly loud.
The child looked pretty and handsome. She tore half of the oil cake and stuffed it into the child's mouth, then walked over them and walked forward.
Unexpectedly, I met them again in the evening. Maybe she had gone a step back halfway and turned to a quarry. There were still people working here at night, chiseling stones with tools, constantly making harsh jingles, and were heard very loudly by the mountain walls. Xin Xiu attracted this sound.
The mountain walls were covered with mined stones. There were more than a dozen straw sheds nearby, and several women were cooking after burning water.
"There is nothing good, at least it's a bowl of hot soup." The woman with a vicissitudes of expression gave her a bowl of soup. She was probably too tired and couldn't show any enthusiasm. Xin Xiu took the not-so-clean bowl into her hand, feeling that the vegetable root soup was indeed weak in water and there was nothing more than boiled water.
The little boy sat aside, sucking and drinking soup, without any disgust. After a while, a man covered in white stone powder came back, took a towel handed over by his wife and wiped his face, and at least he showed his mouth and could bring a bowl of soup.
He looked at Xin Xiu and didn't care much. He didn't ask who she was or where she came from. He seemed to be so tired that he had no strength to speak. He was completely hunched. After eating something, he got up and walked out. Not long after, the jingling sounds outside were connected again.
The woman asked the child to sleep in a haystack in the straw shed, put a torn clothes on him, walked to Xin Xiu and put a little light on her clothes, and asked her, "Why are you outside alone and don't go home? It's so dangerous if you are away from home alone."
Xin Xiu said, "I am strong and most people can't beat me."
The woman shook her head and showed a look of fear: "We have demons and plague ghosts here. You don't know how terrible those things are. If you meet them, you can't escape. Even a big man can't deal with them."
"The most evening is, you don't go out and take a break here for a night." When the woman said this, she quickly worshipped a small stone statue on the simple table: "We are quarrying to build a temple for the Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva. He blessed us, so there are no epidemic ghosts and demons here who dare to come."
Only then did Xin Xiu realize that there was a statue on the table.
The woman told her again that many people in their village were eaten by demons, so they wanted to build a temple for the Bodhisattva.
"Blessed by the Bodhisattva! When the temple is built, no one will die in the village." The woman glanced at her son who was sleeping, and there were two lights in her turbid eyes.
Xin Xiu thought to himself, it was the king again. It turned out that there were demons and ghosts here, and if you believe in him, you can get protection. No wonder she saw most of his loyal believers on the way.
The man came back to rest in the middle of the night, and Xin Xiu slept in the straw shed all night and left early in the morning.
She met too many people along the way, nothing more than wealth and poverty, happiness and sorrow, and humans who combined them together these times. Maybe some people said a few more words, but they didn't even know their names. The real chance meeting suddenly came and parted.
The next evening, Xinxiu arrived at a dilapidated small village. She was thinking about whether to go to the village to borrow a kitchen for use. She hadn't had a decent meal for many days and was about to comfort herself. Suddenly, she heard a noise in her ear.
I walked over the branches and saw a little girl lying on the ground. A monster with a half-person tall belly, a small limb, and a black body. She was about to peel off the girl's head with her claws, trying to poke a sharp mouth into her to eat the girl's head.
The girl's mother was scared to the ground, and she was holding a younger boy in her arms. She was holding a sickle, and she was waving the sickle and trying to force another monster in front of her that was eyeing them.
Could this be the demon that the woman told her before? It turned out to be this thing, what did she think it was?
Seeing that there happened to be a cypress tree growing around him, Xin Xiu broke a cypress branch and jumped down to the girl and the demon. He gently pressed the demon's neck with one hand and pressed it to the ground. The cypress branch in his hand pierced into its head - as easy as using chopsticks to pierce tofu.
She lifted the cypress branch, flashed, and appeared on the other side again. The cypress branch also penetrated the other demon. One branch strung two demons, but they were not dead yet. The thin limbs were scratched in vain, and their bulging eyes were staring at her like a toad.
"Ah-Ku'er!" The woman rushed to her daughter and cried.
Xin Xiu was looking at the two demons, and when she heard the crying beside her, she casually said, "Don't worry, sister, you're fine."
After escaping from death, the woman cried for a while, then the man stopped him and came to thank her. After the ball, she couldn't quite understand the accent in the village. Xin Xiu only heard from the couple that this was a big local disaster she guessed.
There are so many monsters in the world, and they don’t know how to classify them, so they are called monsters directly.
"This thing can suddenly emerge from the ground. Its skin is very hard, and its knife cannot be cut to death. Its claws are sharp. It can peel off people's heads in an instant. Many people here sleep until midnight and are broken by this demon. The next morning, they found that the person was dead." The man said this roughly, with lingering fear on his face.
Xin Xiu: "This thing cannot be killed by a knife, and you can directly stab it with a cypress branch. Next time you encounter it, just use a cypress branch."
She heard her senior brothers talk about various monsters and monsters in Shuling. The name seems to be called the Tomb Ghost. It is born from the tomb's belly. It can walk in the soil and like to eat people's brains.
Xin Xiu thought that after she told her this method, they would no longer have to be afraid of this thing. Unexpectedly, after hearing what she said, the couple hesitated and became even more worried and fearful.
"If we kill too many demons, it will cause plague ghosts. Even if we can kill them, we will not dare to kill them."
"The demon will leave after eating one person. Once the epidemic comes, our piece will die."
As the two said, the woman started crying again and complained repeatedly: "Why don't we build a Bodhisattva temple here? If we build a Vajra Heavenly King Bodhisattva Temple, we dare not come!"
The man clenched his fists: "But where did we get so much money to build a temple, and people would starve to death."
Xin Xiu asked, "So, what are you talking about?"
The woman wiped her face: "I haven't seen it before, but I heard it's very powerful. There are plague ghosts across the river, and many people have died."
