Chapter 78: The Two Sides of the Yangtze River are Different

On September 20, the 16th Division, the reinforcement unit of the Japanese Army, arrived in Füjin Mountain, and joined forces with the 13th Division of Ogisu's foundry troops to start a larger attack.

"Are the troops on the opposite side all rats? The hilltops were blown up for half a meter, but their main fortifications were still intact. This is how we can reach Jiangcheng within the designated time!"

The commander of the 16th Division of Japan, Fujie Mesofumi, looked like a soldier in Ogisu, and was as dark as the dark clouds that were slamming the city.

Although Ogisu Ribing, who was on the side, was also solemn, he felt a little gloating. After all, when Fujie Etsuki arrived at Fujin Mountain, he mocked him indirectly.

Ogisu Ribing said solemnly: "According to the information from the Special High School, the commanding general on the opposite side is Wu Siren's beloved general Hu Boyu, who is known as the number one wise general of the Tax Police Corps, which is very difficult to deal with."

"General Kento Doihara has emphasized more than once that the Tax Police Corps is not only the most powerful enemy of Wu Siren, the empire, is powerful, but others should not be underestimated. Chief of Staff Chen Ziliang has the ability of Xiao He and Cao Shen, but Wu Siren's right-hand man; Qiu Yu'an is good at attacking and has mastered the essence of Wu Siren's "blitz war"; Fang Zishan is good at defending, and is comparable to the famous general of Jin army Fu Yisheng; while Hu Boyu is known for his cunning and is called a "fox" by Wu Siren, which shows his ability."

Fujie Etsuki was in a very heavy mood at this moment. He no longer had any expectations for Japan to fight quickly to conquer China.

Hu Boyu didn't know that the two generals on the other side of Japan were giving him thumbs up. He was now having a headache and the number of casualties increased sharply. The Japanese people's firepower was too strong. The Second Regiment had just recovered, and now many battalions were about to start rebuilding again, which also made Hu Boyu feel very distressed.

The left side army of the Second Army of the Japanese Army was not smooth and was blocked by Hu Boyu at the foot of Fujin Mountain. The Third and Tenth Divisions on the Right were not much better than that. These two divisions met Fang Zishan, the best defender under Wu Siren, in Liaocheng.

After the battle in Jinling, Fang Zishan had more experience in the defense of the town. He used the four and a half months before the war to build a huge underground fortification group and more than 200 authentic bunkers in Liaocheng. As soon as the 3rd and 10th Divisions of Japan launched a fierce attack, they were bleeding from their heads.

When the commander of the Central China Expedition Army, Shinrok Hata, learned that the attack was not going well, he angrily smashed his favorite blue and white porcelain tea set. He finally understood why Neji Kamura, who was re-activated by the Edo base camp in Japan, did not ask for command of the attack on Jiangcheng on the north bank of the Yangtze River. It turned out that he was afraid of Wu Sairen's tax police regiment.

Shinji Hata was very regretful now. If he had known that the Tax Police Corps was so difficult, he would have asked the Edo Base Camp to send more troops. Shinji Hata Hata was sent a newspaper to the Japan Headquarters to talk about the difficulties he encountered, while continuing to urge the four divisions of the two armies to continue to strengthen their attacks and must quickly open up the passage between the Dabie Mountains and the Jiangcheng.

"Report to the leader of the delegation, General Zhang Xuchen is visiting."

Fang Zishan, who was staring at the map in the underground combat command room, immediately went out after hearing the report from the communications soldiers.

"General Zhang, why are you here!" Fang Zishan said in confusion.

Now the defensive tasks in most areas of Yuzhou are under the responsibility of Wu Siren's Tax Police Corps. The Military Commission of the National Government has also dispatched other troops in a few important military areas. Zhang Xiuchen's 27th Army is one of them, and is now stationed in Huangchuan behind Liaocheng.

"You have been blocking the Japanese for ten days. I'll come and see if I need any help."

As a famous patriotic general in the history of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zhang Xunchen admired Wu Siren and the outstanding achievements of the Tax Police Corps. Although his factions were different, he believed that this was a time for the same hatred of the enemy, so he had always been very close to the Tax Police Corps.

In the history of time and space, after the Third and Tenth Divisions captured Liaocheng, they quickly moved west along the highway to Huangchuan. Zhang Xunchen defended for ten days, more than three days than the originally scheduled guard for seven days, and finally he was able to retreat safely in front of the enemy.

"The weapons and ammunition are very sufficient, but the casualties are too great. The Japanese were like crazy in the past two days, dispatching a large number of aircraft to assist in the war, and our air defense forces lost more than half of them."

Fang Zishan was also worried. Now that his third regiment has experienced many battles, the veterans when he was first established are now less than 30%, and his combat effectiveness has dropped significantly.

Zhang Xunchen thought for a while and said, "Let me do this, I will transfer Feng Zhitai's 77th Army to your command. I hope General Fang will continue to work hard and let the Japanese go without returning."

"I am so grateful. With your troops joining, I have more confidence in blocking the enemy under the city gate."

Due to the strong blockade of the Tax Police Corps on the north bank of the Yangtze River, the Japanese army attacking Jiangcheng made a very slow progress, but the south bank was different. Under the command of Gangmura Yanji, the offensive was like fire.

After Madang and Peng Ze fell one after another, Chen Cixiu saw that the situation was serious, he immediately ordered Li Bohao's 64th Army stationed in Hukou to counterattack Peng Ze.

After a battle of tyranny, the Japanese army not only repelled Li Bohao's attack, but also took advantage of the opportunity to pounce on Hukou. Hukou fell, and the Sixty-Fourth Army retreated to Xunyang.

After occupying Hukou, the exhausted Japanese army rested for more than ten days and continued to set off on July 22 to advance towards Xunyang, the next important river defense town.

In the early morning of the 23rd, the Japanese army repeated the same trick and sneaked into Poyang Lake in the rain and finally landed successfully south of Gutang. For some reason, the Japanese army had already landed at 12 o'clock and did not report to the call for reinforcements until four o'clock. Gu Xiuzhi's 128th Division, which came to the rescue, was reorganized from local troops in western Hunan. When the Japanese army fought a few times, they were defeated and fled.

After landing steadily, the 106th Division of the Japan advanced in depth under the cover of naval guns, and cooperated with the frontal attack to surround Xunyang. Seeing that the overall situation was unfavorable, Zhang Yibin ordered the Second Corps to move forward, abandon Xunyang, and retreat to the second-line position Jinguanqiao area to defend.

At this point, the gateway on the south bank of Jiangcheng was completely exposed to the enemy's gun, and Jiangcheng was in danger.

After the attack on Xunyang, the Japanese army on the south bank were divided into two groups, and the 106th Division of Matsuura attacked De'an along Nanxun Road. The Hatan Detachment and the Marine Corps continued to advance west along the river on naval ships to attack the next key point Ruichang. On August 11, they successfully landed in the port in northeastern Ruichang, and defeated the counterattack of the 12th Army of the defender Sun Yinting and attacked Ruichang.

The Third Army fought hard with the reinforcements of the 32nd Army of Tang Keqin. In late August, the 9th Division of the Japan also arrived in Ruichang under the escort of ships. After the 6th Brigade of the Forward Landing, it was unstoppable and went all the way to Liyu Mountain, Bijia Mountain and other important places, and captured Ruichang on August 24th.

After occupying Ruichang, Maruyama Masao's 6th Brigade should have attacked southwest and cut off the Guangdong-Han Railway, but when he saw that the 106th and 101th Divisions of Nanxun Road were actually beaten by Xue Boling's First Corps, he felt incredible and killed him as soon as there was a lot of trouble. Maruyama led his troops into the Minshan Mountains and penetrated directly behind the defenders on the front of Nanxun Road.

The defense of Minshan was the Sichuan Army Wang Fangzhou's unit was adapted by the security team. Its combat power was weak and it was defeated at once. Xue Boling thought that the Sichuan Army had lied about military information, so he ordered the 74th Army to send a regiment to drive away the enemy in Minshan and cover the safety of the defenders on the front of Nanxun Road.

A brigade sent by the 74th Army was almost made into dumplings by the Japanese. Zhou Jingfang of the 151st Brigade immediately came back and led the troops to fight and retreat while fighting. Wang Zuomin received the report, and was afraid that there would be any accidents in the 151st Brigade, so he hurriedly led other troops of the 51st Division to support. Unexpectedly, the 51st Division was no match for the 51st Division. The 51st Division was beaten backwards. At this time, Yu Liangzhen finally figured out the enemy's strength and number, and hurriedly led all other troops of the 74th Army to support, but he still failed to retreat.
