Chapter 176 How did the empire become like this~)(1/2)

Riven's mother died in childbirth when she was born, and her father died in the war a few years ago. She had no home or family since she was a child.

These acquaintances and friends in the countryside of Trewell were already the closest people to her in the past.

So for this trip back home, Riven always carried some subtle emotions that she couldn't explain. Nervousness? Anticipation? Nostalgia? It seemed like there was a little bit of it all.

But when she wore an imperial officer's armor and rode a tall dragon lizard back to the small village in her memory, all she saw were panicked women, fleeing men, and wailing children.

This is exactly the same as the scene when Riven led the Noxian army into Demacia's villages to raid the villages.

"Alas" Riven sighed in dismay.

"Stop, everyone!" Marit shouted immediately.

She opened her bow and nocked an arrow, and one arrow pierced the calf of a fleeing farmer, causing him to scream and fall to the ground, nailed to the ground by the long arrow.

The wails echoed throughout the countryside, and no one in the villagers dared to escape.

"What are you doing?" Riven frowned: "We are not in Demacia now, Marit."

"But they made you unhappy." Marit replied calmly.

"No need." Riwen felt a little uncomfortable: "They are my fellow countrymen after all."

"Then they should welcome the heroes in their hometown instead of running away." Marit said.

As she spoke, she looked with satisfaction at the villagers who were already trembling with fear and did not dare to run away, then she drove the magic bird to catch up and walked to the farmer who was injured by the arrow:

"This is what Lord Riven asked me to reward you with, take it."

Marit threw a bag of gold coins and a bottle of expensive magic healing potion into the soil soaked in the farmer's blood.

"Thank you, sir! Thank you, Master Riven." As expected, the farmer didn't even care about his injuries, so he hugged the bag of gold coins like crazy and thanked them with tears of gratitude.

He kept shouting, trying to express his gratitude. But Marit ignored him. Riven looked at him twice, and then stopped looking.

Marit just looked back at the villagers who had become honest and said loudly:

"Villagers, you should feel honored——"

"Because the hero of Trivel, the warrior commended by His Majesty, the master of the Blackstone Rune Sword, the commander of the Rune Swordsman Legion, Lord Riven, returned home to visit you today!"

"Riwen? Is it Riwen?" The villagers looked at each other and started talking among themselves.

Some of them recognized this poor girl from back then, and some had no impression of her. But this did not delay everyone from reacting correctly.

They walked honestly from all directions, stood in front of Riven's tall dragon lizard car, and then knelt on the ground: "Huan, welcome Master Riven."

"Yeah." Looking at these villagers kneeling together, familiar and unfamiliar, Riwen felt agitated for no reason.

No fun, no fun at all.

It turned out that Triwell was not her home at all. She no longer belonged here.

"Everyone, get up." Riven was no longer in the mood to play any riches-and-riches-return-to-home games.

She just wanted to settle the business as soon as possible, send the soldier Ona's ashes home, and then return to the city and the military camp with Marit.

There are also her comrades in the military camp, her Jinlan sisters. Perhaps that is her real home.

"Who are Ona's parents?"

Riven asked condescendingly while riding on the back of the dragon lizard.

"I. I am Ona's mother." An old woman stood up.

"Where's her father?" Riven asked.

"He died in battle a few years ago." The old woman replied.

"Oh." This was not an unexpected answer, and Riven was not surprised.

"Oona died too." Riven said directly. Noxians don't talk about twists and turns, and they don't shy away from bad news.

"I know." The old woman's answer was also unusually calm.

"A few days ago, the herald sent back the news of Ona's sacrifice."

The death notice has been conveyed to the family members a long time ago, but Ona's remains have not yet been sent back.

"So this time I helped you bring her back." Riven said this and took off the small package from the dragon lizard's back.

She subconsciously wanted to throw it down, but was stunned for a moment, then carefully held the package, turned over and jumped off the back of the tall dragon lizard, and stood on the ground at the same height as the old woman:

"Madam, these are Ona's remains."

Riven solemnly handed the package to the old woman's hand.

"" The old woman hugged the package and was silent for a while. Her body was shaking slightly, but not much.

It's like I've already gotten used to it.

Tears welled up in her eyes, but the old woman still said calmly: "Thank you, Master Riven."

Then she held her daughter's urn, hesitated for a moment, and then asked eagerly: "Master, is it just Ona?"

"What?" Riwen was confused.

The old woman said: "Ona's two brothers died in the battle the year before last. The herald said that they were buried in Shurima and could not come back."

"Oh" Riven understood.

In the past two years, Noxus has no policy of sending the remains of fallen soldiers back home. Ona was just sent back because she died close to home.

As for Ona's two brothers who died in Shurima, it is of course impossible for them to come back.

"Please have my condolences." Riven could only say this.

When Marit heard this, she couldn't help but ask the old woman: "Your husband, two sons, and one daughter are all sergeants fighting for the empire?"

"Yeah." The old woman nodded.

"You have a heroic family," Marit said.

Then she turned over and jumped off the demon bird's back, and stood respectfully in front of the old woman to show her respect.

"Ona died for the honor of the empire. She died as a hero."

"Madam, everyone in Trewell should be proud of you and your daughter."

Marit said this, and the villagers immediately agreed.

Everyone surrounded the old woman and worshiped her and her sacrificed daughter as the greatest heroes.

"Well" Ruiwen's expression was a little subtle.

Because according to the cause of death she saw on the death roll:

Ona was actually careless while robbing something in a Demacia village, and was stabbed to death by a barbaric German farmer with a pitchfork.

This kind of death can be said to be a great shame for a Noxian.

So later, the Noxian army directly slaughtered the village, killing all the men who were taller than a wheel. The women and children were used as slaves, packed and sold to the colonial farms on the north coast of Shurima.

"Yes, your daughter is a hero."

"She died heroically on the battlefield for the Empire's great conquest of the Demacia barbarians."

Although her mood was a little subtle, Riven finally showed her impassioned expression and said this to the old woman.

The old woman was moved to accept the loud praises from everyone.

But after hesitating and stuttering for a while, she still cautiously asked Riwen, who seemed to be relatively easy to talk to:

"Um, Master Riven, Ona"

"Did you bring back her death pension?"

"Huh?" Riwen was slightly startled.

"Have you not received the pension yet?" She couldn't believe it.

Shouldn't the pension be sent back to the family as soon as possible when the death notice is sent to the family?

"Not yet." The old woman said: "The herald only told me that Ona died and did not give us a pension. He said that the army's funds are tight now, and I have to wait a little longer."

"How is this possible!" Marit was also shocked.

You must know that Noxus may mistreat workers and farmers, but it will never mistreat soldiers.

As long as Noxians join the army, they can receive a large settlement allowance, their families who died in battle can also receive generous pensions, and they can also receive enviable salaries and allowances during their service.

Even the spoils they grabbed during the battle will be distributed to the soldiers in proportion by the officers after the war.

In other words, being a soldier can not only earn a high salary, but you can also commit legal robbery. If you are lucky, you might even get rich in a battle.

Therefore, even though Noxus has been at war since its birth, and has been fighting for more than 900 years without stopping, the morale of the Noxian army is still stable and the fighting spirit is high.

Because the empire has been expanding smoothly, soldiers have always been paid high salaries and have things to grab.

As a result, everyone is willing to fight, is warlike, and has the courage to participate in the war. They also respect, envy and worship the soldiers of the empire.

But now

"The army doesn't even pay pensions?" Even Marit was angry now.
