Chapter 220 Equal Coin

The military reform plan has been passed and will be officially issued to the entire army. In the next two years, the entire army will be gradually restructured.

After the military reform meeting, Fang Nan took Zhou Lei, Wang Mu and others to the outside city mint to inspect and see the mint of the "equal coins".

The minting of new coins was used to replace the silver and copper coins circulating under the Ming court and the People's Army. Fang Nan had already determined the plan. As early as the fourth quarter of last year, the plan to mint the new coins was determined. A mint was established outside Guangzhou City to mint the designed equal coins.

There are seven specifications of equal coins, namely one yuan, five cents, one cents, five cents, five cents, and one cents. The first three are silver coins, and the last four are copper coins.

In the Ming Dynasty, one liang was 37.3 grams, a one-yuan silver coin was the same as one liang silver coin, and the weight was 37.3 grams, a five-cent silver coin was 18.65 grams, and a one-cent silver coin was 3.73 grams. (The density of sterling silver was 10.53 grams/cubic centimeter)

However, the silver coins minted by the People's Army are not pure silver. The silver used before did not care about irregularities and they had to weigh them during trading. When there were more than two silver, the silver was cut directly.

The higher the purity of silver, the softer the texture. In order to make silver coins last long, the silver coins minted by the People's Army cannot be directly used in sterling silver. Other metals must be added to increase the hardness of the silver coins. Currently, the main materials of silver coins are 89% silver, 10% copper, and 1% tin.

The four copper coins after the three silver coins are not pure copper, and other metals are required, and the weight between the four copper coins will not be like silver coins. The weight of ten silver coins together is equal to one yuan coin. The four copper coins have slightly increased according to their face value, weight, diameter, and thickness.

One-cent copper coins are equivalent to the current unit of copper coins, and five-cent copper coins are equal to fifty one-cent copper coins. If the weight of the five-cent copper coins is equal to fifty one-cent copper coins, then these five-cent copper coins will be very heavy and are very unsuitable for circulation.

Silver is a precious metal with a value far higher than copper. Although most of the people at the bottom only use copper coins, in everyone's mind, the status of silver is far higher than that of copper coins. The People's Army can make major changes to copper coins, but it is difficult to make major changes to silver in a short time.

You should know that even though the People's Army has defeated the Ming court many times, the majority of people under the rule of the People's Army hope that the People's Army can continue to win or even overthrow the Ming court, but this is just hope. Many people cannot determine whether the People's Army can persist. After all, the Ming Dynasty has been established for hundreds of years and has a strong foundation, which is far from comparable to the People's Army.

If the People's Army launches silver coins that do not use weight as standard, even if the People's Army promotes them forcibly, many people will not use equal coins and bury most of their silver coins underground.

That's why there are three silver coins with weight value as the standard, and four copper coins with weight value as the standard.

In addition to the different specifications of weight, thickness, and diameter, the "numerical values" marked on the front of the coin are also different, and the other places are almost the same. The reverse is the four words "Everyone is equal", and the front is under the "numerical values", which is a sickle and a musket with poor words, without the standard time.

The four words "Equal for All" on the contrary represent the concept of the People's Army. Under the rule of the People's Army, no matter whether you are an official, a soldier, a merchant, or a peasant, you will be equal in status. Anyone who violates the laws formulated by the People's Army will be punished.

When farmers meet with officials, farmers do not need to kneel down or be afraid, and can look directly at each other and talk.

Of course, equality among all does not mean that farmers can insult officials in front of or behind their backs. The respect they should be given should be given.

The frontal sickles and muskets, the former represents the peasants with the largest population under the People's Army, and the latter represents the army, which can also represent the people's hearts and the strength of the People's Army.

The shape of the seven coins is relatively simple, mainly for the convenience of minting. If the shape is complex, the difficulty of minting is also increased, and more manpower is required. The People's Army cannot use a lot of manpower to mint coins. It is better to use silver and copper coins first and then mint new coins after overthrowing the Ming court.

Fang Nan and his group came to the mint, and the factory director Feng Guangqi led the way to inspect the mint.

During the inspection, Fang Nan did not first ask about the minting of the equal coins, but first asked about the safety of the workers when minting the equal coins.

Faced with the inquiry from the Grand Commander, Feng Guangqi told the truth, saying that in the first month when the mint started construction, workers were often injured when minting equal coins, mainly burns and bumps. Then Feng Guangqi called all the factory managers to meet and asked them to remind the workers that they must be careful when working and never run away from the spirit.

Feng Guangqi even used workers and his family as an example. Once a worker is injured and disabled while working, he has no way to continue working. He cannot even be used as a labor force at home. Someone needs to take care of him, which will drag down the family.

Faced with the instructions of the managers, the workers became cautious, and they did not want to be injured at work and drag down their families, which made it less and less injured workers in the mint. Until now, it is difficult for a worker to suffer minor injuries due to mints in one day.

Listening to Feng Guangqi's introduction, Fang Nan nodded with satisfaction. Coins are very important to the People's Army, but the safety of workers is also very important. Fang Nan does not want to see the mint casualties due to the mint. Even if there are any casualties, the mint must do a good job of compensation.

After talking about the safety of the mint, Fang Nan and his group officially inspected the mint and went to various processes of the mint to check it out.

Fang Nan did not want to disturb the workers who were working, so he did not let Feng Guangqi reveal the arrival of the People's Army General Governor. The workers who were working did not know that the Governor had just done it by his side, but when the working hours were over today, we can talk about the Governor coming to the factory.

While inspecting, Feng Guangqi introduced the production of the mint to Fang Nan and his group.

Currently, half of the mint's productivity is minting three silver coins, 30% of the productivity is minting five-cent copper coins and one-cent copper coins, and 20% of the productivity is minting five-cent copper coins and one-cent copper coins.

Under normal circumstances, the demand for a mint of a liter of copper coins as the basis should be the most, but at present, the People's Army only has this one mint, and its productivity is limited. Even if it is used to mint a liter of a liter of copper coins, it cannot meet market demand.

Fang Nan's idea was to put silver coins into use first. According to the current productivity of the mint, it is expected that by the middle of this year, the People's Army will be able to put three silver coins on the market.

Compared with silver with uncertain weight, the value of silver coins is determined, and even if there is a little damage on the silver coins, it can continue to be used.

In addition, silver coins are not sterling silver. If silver coins are used to replace silver, the People's Army can also gain some benefits.
