Chapter 2 Diplomatic Means (6)
There was another uproar.
"King of Sweden, is this news true?" the merchant asked again in disbelief, "The Hero King is really going to launch a war against the Allmani Federation?"
"Of course, it is completely true and there is no falsehood. At noon today, the Hero King had left Gotland and went to Zeland to mobilize troops."
Seeing the merchants panicked, Ella knew that these people were already on her side.
But Amy was still suspicious and interrupted coldly: "I know there should be weapons merchants and grain merchants among you. If the war breaks out, maybe you can make a fortune. It's a joyful congratulation, it's a joyful congratulation."
"Where is this? How can we do this?" Several merchants hurriedly defended, "Sweden is now our biggest customer. We can't even finish your orders with the King of Sweden. What are the benefits for us to cut off trade?"
"Your Majesty?" Amy threw an inquiring look at Ella. She had just returned from Aztland and she had no idea about anything like Ella's buying pigs in large quantities.
Ella nodded and signaled that Amy's words were true. In the past few months, she has not only formed a Fliggy Army. In fact, she is buying weapons, armor, food, horses and other combat preparations from Sweden in large quantities, and has almost cleared the inventory of the Almany Federation.
"You sent back too much gold. If you don't buy it like this, I don't know what it's useful to pile it in the warehouse." She murmured in a low voice.
In Aztland, gold is only worth as much as exquisite feather ornaments. It can be exchanged for a lot of things like glass beads, hoes, pitchforks, etc. As long as these goods are exchanged for gold and then shipped back to Sweden by ship, the value will soon increase by dozens or hundreds of times. Now Ella holds much more gold than when she was Barcelona in the Seven Hills Empire.
"Okay... Your Majesty, I'm too much."
Amy nodded apologetically and retreated behind Ella. So Ella coughed and continued:
"As I just said, I do not want to terminate the trade relations with you. I, like you, want to try my best to avoid the war with the Allemani Federation. But now that I have come to this point, I can do nothing. Yesterday I negotiated with the Hero King, and he offered three conditions: return the hijacked goods, give compensation, and execute the relevant responsible persons. The Allemani Federation must make these three concessions, either of which is indispensable, otherwise, war will be inevitable."
"Then, King of Sweden," someone asked below, "what did you say these things to us and do you want us to do?"
"I want to confirm it first." Ella asked, "You think that relying on you, the Chamber of Commerce behind you, and the Free City behind the Chamber of Commerce, can the Federation make the above concessions?"
The merchants shook their heads at the same time.
"The King of Sweden, we are just merchants, and we are born to be inferior to the nobles in terms of status. We can hardly interfere with the decisions made by the nobles."
"There are often wars between the lords of all sizes in the Federation. Once the war breaks out, our caravans may be robbed by hostile lords. Let the 'Federal' make concessions, but who can represent the 'Federal'? Not to mention us, even if the consul of the Federation and the Count of the Ile-de-France come, it may not be able to fulfill these three requirements."
Ella nodded solemnly: "It seems that the situation is similar to what I expected. Then I would like to ask you one more thing. Is it possible that the Federation will not interfere with Hestein's attack on Normandy directly, but let it go? If the war is limited to the Pirate Kingdom and the Duke of Normandy, the impact will be much smaller."
"I think this is unlikely." A businessman said, "The Earl of Ile-de-France may not have directly led the Almani Federation to participate in the war, but these lords have their own factions in the Federation. Once the Pirate Kingdom attacks, other lords of the same faction will likely participate, and the front line will expand."
"Faction?" Ella asked, "What factions are there currently in the Almany Federation?"
After thinking for a while, a businessman took the lead and said:
"I think it can be roughly divided into three factions: there are pro-Tianfang Empire to fight against Britain, Qiqiu, and the sea...the Hero Kingdom, some of the surrounding powerful countries, some of the surrounding countries to fight against the two empires of Tianfang and Qiqiu, some of the attempt to further unite the Federation and use the Almani Federation alone to fight against all the neighboring countries. There are countless more detailed factions, but in short, these three are basically the same - what do you think?"
He asked the opinions of other merchants around him. The merchants nodded silently. One person responded: "Basically, that's true."
"Don't there be any faction that is pro-Qiqiu Empire?" Amy asked curiously.
The merchants shook their heads together: "The Seven Hill Empire? The Almani Federation was established by our ancestors who seized the territory in the western part of the Seven Hill Empire. They could not have formed an alliance with us at all, right?"
"It seems that to solve this problem, we can only start with the Duke of Normandy himself." Ella nodded thoughtfully, "Do you know which faction the Duke of Normandy belongs to?"
The venue was silent.
"Did no one know about the Duke of Normandy?" Ella asked again.
"King of Sweden, we are just merchants. We cannot enter unless we are specially invited, the noble lords discuss and socialize the places we have."
"Yes. King of Sweden, we can only understand the private lives of the nobles through some neighborhood rumors. If you ask the Duke of Normandy which faction is... we really have no way to understand this political matter."
Ella glanced at the venue with regret: "Does no one really know which side he kissed?"
"King of Sweden, I know something." A young businessman said below, "The Duke of Normandy did not kiss any neighboring countries. Because when he was drunk he would say that he would beat the sky, the seven hills, Britain, the sea... all these places were beaten up."
Ella's eyes passed through the crowd and carefully glanced the young businessman up and down.
"Good information." She asked slowly, "Who are you?"
"My name is Leopold, a businessman from Flanders Aras."
Ella gave Amy a wink, and Amy nodded with understanding.
"He helped a lot," said Ella. "Leopold, after the banquet, you follow Amy, and I will give you a little reward."
After saying this, Ella took a wine glass from her servant.
"It seems that there is no more useful things to discuss for the time being, so let's put the matter of war aside. This is the tequila I brought back from a distant country. Everyone will try it!"
Before the merchants could come back to their senses, the servants had already left the scene and poured the thick wine into the glass placed in front of each. Ella took the lead in lifting the glass high and drank it all. Everyone did not dare to neglect it and followed suit.
