Chapter 10 Negotiation (3)
Early the next morning, Ella was woken up from her sleep:
"The King of Sweden, it's not good. The King of Knights is no longer possible! Come and take a look!"
Before Ella could wake up, she slowly wiped her eyes and got up from the bed. After sitting in a daze for a while, she suddenly realized the meaning of the words, jumped out of the bed and ran out of the door in a hurry.
It was not far from when the sun was rising, and it was pitch black outside, only the lights were on in Alfred's dormitory. Amy had been waiting under the lights. Although she hadn't slept for long, the news of Alfred's critical illness had scared her to no avail.
"Your Majesty, what will happen to England after Alfred is dead? Can you still maintain an ally with us?"
"It is no longer a matter of whether allies or not. Scotland and Ireland are rebelling. Once Alfred dies, the British Isle will be in chaos!"
The servants in the castle gathered outside the door, and some civilian officials were whispering there. Ella shouted at them from afar: "How is Alfred? Tell me immediately!"
"A moment just now, there was no breathing and heartbeat, and we all thought he was going to be unable to do it." A servant wiped his sweat, "Blessed by the gods, he recovered a little more, and is now lying on the bed to rest."
Amy separated everyone and made a way for Ella. The door was open, but everyone dared not go in. He only saw Alfred lying on the bed with his face as if he was haggard, making some unconscious moans in his mouth.
"Alfred? Alfred?" Ella shouted a few times without receiving a response. So a servant said to her: "The Knight King is no longer conscious and does not know what we are talking about."
So the group of civilian officials whispered to Ella: "King of Sweden, tell us the truth, is he still saved by the Knight King?"
"Paracelsus should be on the way here now. If he can arrive in time, there may be a chance."
"I'm afraid Paracelsus cannot cure a dying man," sighed the civilian officials, "Are we better arrange the funeral first so as not to be caught off guard?"
Ella hesitated for a while, then replied helplessly: "Yes, let's arrange it first."
"But there is a question, about the candidates for heirs, and now Winchester has no right to make this decision."
"Why?" Amy asked, "The Knight King said that you should arrange according to the inheritance method, so you can arrange it?"
"You don't know what the King of Sweden has done many reforms after unifying Britain. Now we are not the ones who have this power, but an organization called the "Round Table". The members of this organization are the most heroic knights selected by the King of Knights from many nobles."
“It is up to the military organization to decide the heir?”
"Yes." The civilian officials sighed, "The Knight King does not believe in us, but rather in the choice of the army."
Ella frowned. Speaking of knights, her initial idea was to be a subordinate noble who had no right to inherit territory. If the civil servants said, the status of the knights that Bjorn captured was much higher than she imagined.
"Alfred is also a mess that brings this group of people together to the battlefield..."
In any case, negotiations with Bjorn are becoming more and more important.
"Don't worry," said Ella, "I will definitely let them come back safely and end the war in Britain."
The next morning, Bjorn indeed sent someone under the city wall again.
"Is the King of Sweden awake?" they shouted under the walls, "Boss Bjorn has something to talk to you. Make a time and place that both parties can accept!"
"Your Majesty, the messenger of Bjorn is under the city..."
"I know that although the situation is urgent, we must pretend to be in a hurry. Let them wait a little longer!"
Ella took a sip of milk and continued to chew the bread on her hands.
"I told them that the King of Sweden has other matters to deal with, so that they can wait outside the city. We didn't sleep well last night, so we couldn't let them see it. After breakfast, we'll go to make up for it."
So the group of messengers waited until the sun climbed directly above his head before waiting for Ella.
"The King of Sweden is here!" Amy shouted on the wall, "She asks you if you want milk and bread?"
The group of messengers licked their dry lips and nodded repeatedly. Bjorn's baggage unit was burned by Ella last night, and now only a little dry food that everyone carries. They want to drink milk too much now.
So Ella asked Amy to open the city gate and distribute the bread and milk to the messengers.
"This is a day's portion." Amy said, "The King of Sweden saw that you have been waiting hard, so I give you more. You were all Knights, so there was no need to fight to the death. You can have a meal here, bring it back to the barracks in the evening and have another meal tomorrow morning. Although Winchester encountered some difficulties, milk and bread were enough."
For the Bjorn army, who lacked food and water, this bread and milk were even more expensive than precious jewelry. The group of messengers were so grateful that they wiped their tears while drinking milk.
"So, where is the King of Sweden going to negotiate with Bjorn? Let's go back and report."
"Winchester City."
The group of envoys were stunned for a moment. The two armies were fighting, and the negotiation location should be chosen where both sides felt safe. Letting Bjorn go to Winchester to negotiate was almost equivalent to letting Bjorn surrender.
"This...is probably a little embarrassed..."
"The King of Sweden will not accept any other negotiation locations except the city of Winchester. You can go back and report to Bjorn."
"We now have many English knights on our hands," said an envoy with a blue face. "Before coming here, Boss Bjorn said that if the King of Sweden did not accept the negotiations, he would immediately kill the knights."
Amy shook her head: "I thought Bjorn had some conditions. So they were these knights? Is he not good at using his brain? Everyone knows that the target of the negotiations is not the Knight King, but the King of Sweden, and he is still going to use this as a bargaining chip? He thought that a few knights could exchange for his entire army's life?"
"But... these... are these knights attending the roundtable?"
"Roundtable? What is that?" Amy pretended to be puzzled. "Go back and tell your boss that if he is going to use this negotiation, he won't even use Winchester City, because it's a waste of time. But he probably can't get any other chips. But you have a good chip that your boss doesn't have."
"The bargaining chips our boss doesn't have?" The group of messengers was stunned when they heard it, "What is it?"
Amy lowered her voice:
