Chapter 649 Freedom and Dignity Security Act
On the West Coast Avengers Base, the captain who had just escaped from troubled bureaucracy rubbed his forehead and walked into Tony Stark's laboratory. Then, behind a bunch of large quantum computers, he found Tony Stark who was busy with a virtual tablet.
"Tony, what are you doing?"
The captain who returned from the last century now directly accepts mobile phones at most, so he can't understand the high-tech that Tony is playing with. However, it doesn't matter if he can't understand. He can always use his sincere attitude to seek knowledge to get the answers he wants.
"I'm adjusting Jarvis' artificial intelligence program, backing up his emotional thinking mode, and loading the computing volume with a quantum computer to see if my recent research results are useful. Why, are you asking me for something?"
After taking a look at the increasingly complicated formulas and academic language, the captain decisively answered his question.
"That's right, I want to talk to you about the request that Director Ross of SHIELD made to us!"
"You're talking about that registration bill? Why, do you have any thoughts on this?"
When Tony heard what the captain mentioned, he immediately remembered the content, which made him stop the work in his hand immediately, then raised his head and looked at him seriously.
"Steve, I remember I've made my attitude. I support Director Ross's idea that people with super powers must be under control. How many dangerous guys we've dealt with, you should understand the harm they've caused!"
"I know your concerns, Tony. But you have to understand that Ross and the others are not entirely for the safety of ordinary people. He just wants to take all the power in his hands."
"They represent the US government, and the government must want to take all its power into its own hands, especially this dangerous force. We all know how dangerous our country is now, and it is inevitable that they have such considerations. And I agree with their idea."
"Tony!" Looking at Tony Stark with a serious look, the captain raised his hand, but gave up the idea of continuing to persuade him. "Forget it, I won't talk about this for the time being. Let's talk about more important things about Professor Charles."
"Professor Charles? What's wrong with him?"
When he heard that it was related to the most powerful spiritual controller on earth, Tony had to follow the captain to change his own rhythm.
"Are he going to get married? With that old woman from FBI? This is really a late spring. But I understand, man! Don't worry, I will prepare the gifts and bring you all together."
Listening to Tony's hippie smile, the captain opened his mouth, but he forgot what he should say. After knowing for a moment, he reacted and said loudly to Tony.
"Please, Tony. Can't you be more serious? This is not a joke!"
"Why, do you think Ms. McMargot is not old yet? Please, she is in her fifties now. Although her genetics research results make her look a little younger, the facts are there. Oh, by the way. I forgot that compared to you, she is indeed quite young, old man!"
Shaking his head, ignoring this conventional teasing, the captain directly told the problem.
"Professor Charles asked us for help, and he hoped that we, especially you, could help him solve some problems that are very important to them."
"I?" pointed to himself, and Tony's face showed a look of surprise. "I don't have much interaction with mutants, and they don't seem to be short of money!"
"It's not a money issue. He hopes to get in touch with a few MPs through your relationships. His students and fellow citizens are very upset about the tough measures the government is now taking to implement the registration bill. If possible, he hopes you can help him and lobby for these people. They don't want the guns of those giant robots to be aimed at themselves."
"It's very simple to solve this problem!" After hearing the captain's words, Thor shook his head and showed obvious resistance. "Go to the relevant department to get a safety bracelet. With the logo of that thing, the sentry robot will naturally mark them as safety targets."
"Tony!" He called his name again, and the captain's voice suddenly increased. "They are not criminals, and many of them are still children. You cannot use this method to deprive them of their freedom. It is already the twenty-first century. Are Americans at this time not as good as those of my era in freedom?"
"Hey, hey, hey!" He raised his hand to stop the captain's excitement. Tony expressed his meaning as much as possible. "It's just a small trick to make more people safe, so it won't be involved in freedom. I've seen those little things, which are very safe and there will be no danger at all."
"Safe, you call that safe." Holding your forehead and combing your hair vigorously. The captain felt like he was about to be ignited by his temper. "The giant robot wandered around a school of all ages, ready to aim at any target with their equipped, military-level weapons at any time and anywhere. It might even pull the trigger directly at them because they did not bring a damn bracelet. Hell, the youngest of them may be less than seven years old!"
"Yes, I've looked up the information of Professor Charles' students. Strictly speaking, the youngest just celebrated his fifth birthday. But, so what!"
Facing the angry captain, Thor obviously had the same impulse.
"Age is young, which does not mean that they are not in danger. Even the danger is increasing. Just like an innocent ordinary child can pour boiling water into the ant's nest without changing his face, mutant children will do this, and it will be more terrifying and cruel. They have destructive power that ordinary children cannot match."
"A normal child can at most harm the cats and dogs in the family, but these children are enough to make people in the entire neighborhood have nightmares. Do you still remember the reports about those high-risk mutants? An eight-year-old girl was massacred because she could show the monsters in her nightmares. Just because she watched a boring horror movie with a group of children."
"Are they innocent? This is not their intention."
The captain tried hard to defend these children, but even when he said this, he was a little confused. This change was noticed by the keen Tony.
"Ha, innocent. I'm afraid you don't believe this." Pointing to the captain who was hesitant in his eyes, Tony's voice became even more excited. "Maybe their people are innocent, but their abilities are not innocent. Just like a mobile nuclear bomb, no one will ignore this danger. No matter how many reasons you weave, it's useless. So, this is why I support the registration bill. No matter how many bureaucrats think, one thing is certain, this bill limits danger to the safest controllable range. As long as this plan is implemented, all dangers can be monitored and controlled. And relatively speaking, there will be many less truly innocent victims. This is more important than anything else, do you understand? Steve!"
As Tony's thoughts revealed, the two men suddenly became silent. It was not until a long time later that the captain opened his mouth.
"I understand what you mean, but I still can't accept this statement."
"This is a blasphemy of freedom and dignity, Tony. A century ago, I fought for the freedom and dignity of the people of the world. Do you know, for this war, how many of us went on the battlefield, and how many of us could come back alive. Just to not accept the dictatorship of others, young and lively lives entrusted everything to us. But do you know? We never regret it! We fight for the well-being of the people of the world, so that we and our descendants can enjoy the taste of freedom forever. But now, do you know what I feel?"
"I feel our blood is gone in vain, I feel that everything we do has no meaning. Freedom, dignity! Now it is about to be trampled by this country, just in the name of security."
"Please!" Tony exclaimed helplessly. "They are just mutants, just in case."
"Mutants are also humans, and are one of the American citizens we protect. And, can you guarantee that they will only target mutants? Now, they can monitor all mutants for the excuse of safety and want to deprive them of their freedom. So in the future, can you be sure that they will not deprive all human freedom for this reason?"
Regardless of Tony's obstruction, the captain said firmly.
"I wouldn't agree to the registration bill, which makes me feel sorry for the heavy history. Not only me, but Tony. There are also people in the league who have the same idea. We are not the formula in your hands, we don't need to be controlled by others. So, we will never surrender."
"What the hell do you want to do, Captain!" Holding the workbench in front of him, Tony Stark's tone became sharp. "Three days left, the president will publicly announce the bill in Washington. It will become law, not an agreement that requires your consent. If you don't agree, then you are an illegal existence for this country. Do you know what that means?"
"I know, war!"
"Listen, Captain. This country has been suffering enough. If you really pull her into the quagmire again because of this, then we can't sit together like this. We will be hostile, do you understand?"
"I understand!" He stood up straight, like a soldier preparing to go to the battlefield. The captain's eyes were full of awareness. "If this method really needs to be used to maintain freedom, then I am willing."
"I won't show mercy!" Hearing this reply, Tony suddenly shouted. The answer he got was.
"Neither can I, Tony Stark!"
